- Which generator is BEST? Join Jeff and Brady as they do a thorough investigation on this comparison! We use both of these generators on our off grid Alaska homestead. The extremely COLD Alaska winters are a good test of their integrity and quality.
We are doing Alaska homestead chores throughout the entire year, so a good generator is crucial for us.
Join us to see what our thoughts are on the comparison! We were not sponsored, so this is an HONEST GENERATOR REVIEW!
Thanks for joining us and we hope you gained some value from this video.

Great video!
Thank you!!
Good to see that Jeff is better
Thanks Debbie, been a rough couple of weeks for sure!...slowly on the mend though. He's a tough cookie to try to keep down! Lol
So good customer service is priority on my book. Thanks for the information.
Absolutely
That was great information. Jeff, glad to see you up and going forward. I think a small generator like one of those would be great for the RV. Brady, I hear you are the , go to, guy for all electronics! Excellent career. Do you have a business name and/or cards?
Thank you! 😊❤
Yes Brady is amazing at fixing about anything!
the netherlands is a great fan, keep on going !
Yeah!!!! Thank you for watching us!!
😊👍❤
I bought a dual fuel generator a few years ago & had to use it after the hurricane. I used propane & think it's definitely better than fuel cuz of the smell. I wish mine had push button start...lol 😊
Awesome. Yes they are great!! The propane is so clean!! I was amazed...we just love it
Glad your backs improving.
Thank you. It's slowly getting better...😊
Excellent information on these generators 👏👏👏👏also Simple living Alaska had a video on the smaller generator you have so check out his video. His had ice frozen in it at one point but he thawed it out and it worked well
Oh thank you! Ok cool I may check that out. This weather is so
This winter weather is so hard on any equipment...I always feel bad for the equipment ! Lol
Nice review, Brady did great
Thank you. We are just loving our Firman!
Hi Brady!! Elizabeth from Willow. Keep sharing
Thank you!!! Brady says hi
Certainly many folks run their homestead generators out in the elements for the first year when building their initial structures. But most have at least a small insulated enclosure for the generator by the 2nd winter, to keep the intake air above freezing when running. You can buy a an extreme weather mod from Honda that heats the intake air before injection. I don't know why they don't just sell models with this mod everywhere in AK. Finally, Eco mode merely throttles down the engine when no load. Once a couple hundred watts of draw is placed on it, it will throttle to full non-Eco RPMs. So if you don't want to wait that 2-3 secs for the engine to throttle up every time u start ur skillsaw, you would use full RPMs. Or every time a freezer kicks in.
Oh thank you for that info! At least it's been mild here at @ 28 degrees F so either generator works great! Lol
Thanks for watching us!
Good review or comparison :) Let it heel properly take care of it ! The price is usually what a lot of people look at & yes you pay for a Honda $$$ but not a cold weather unit for sure, The color don't matter to me the price does :) have a great weekend "
Thank you....just like you we would make great product testers! The weather is such a test of how something will hold up! Plus we are hard on our stuff because we don't have a shop yet....but hopefully next year!
That is great information. Will consider a portable generator for the RV. Good to see you are up and back in the game, Jeff. You sound good. Brady , I hear you are the, go to, guy for all electronics!😊
are you still pleased with your firman generator
Yes, absolutely!
Since I’m generator un knowledgeable, which would be good for use if in Florida we had a hurricane and power was out indefinitely?
Hmmm... if you had to run your larger appliances with ease for sure the Firman.
For lighter use Honda is great.
The Firman does use about twice as much gas though....
Good question
@ Thank you for your input.
Question. Is there a generator that has an automatic start and quiet.
Yes. Some of the Firman generators actually come with " remote start"....it is very nice....! We had one years before and we started it from inside the cabin.
(But it did have the automatic choke)
Honda has parts and that’s a game changer for us service workers
Yes true
What is doul fuel
Gas or propane option
Dual fuel mean??
Greetings! (It means either gas or propane)
The Honda invertor produces a pure sine wave. I can't find any info that the Firman outputs pure sine wave. Google why pure sine wave is important on a generator. Anything less than PURE sine wave will damage some electronics.
Ok good to know, we will look that up!
Thanks for sharing 😊
The meter said 60hz that is pure sine.
@@mattberden9326 true, {from google search} but an oscilloscope can be used to check the waveform of an inverter to determine if it is pure or modified sine wave. A pure sine wave inverter will produce a smooth, continuous sine wave on an oscilloscope, while a modified sine wave inverter will produce a different waveform Modified sine wave inverters are generally less expensive than pure sine wave inverters.
Side effects
Modified sine wave inverters may cause unexpected side effects, such as:
Running motors hot
Creating a buzz or whine from motors
Interfering with TV and radio reception
Disrupting timers or digital clocks
Damaging battery chargers or batteries

soory bro but your rong on the eco mode the eco mode runs at slower rpm wich saves on gas when the load is not to heavy when the load coms up thee rpm coms up that honda will out last the firmen by along time the honda engins are built to last i had both and the firmens i never got every long out ov i also live off grid
Ok good to know. Sounds like your Honda is lasting longer without issues.
The cold temps here definitely affect its performance...nice to have options here
Love the gas efficiency of the Honda though!
@@Alaskan6pack ya your temps thier alot more colder then here im in nova scotia canada most we ever see is minus 25 i enjoy waching you guys iv lived off grid now 5 years off grid now i love it we do youse our gen alot yously whent threw one a year the honda iv had 3 years now i ended up buying a honda 3000 inverter it has the cold temp tecnolagy the carb on that one dose not freez up
