There was also a military version of this proposed. It was very similar and there were three versions. The first was a flying aircraft carrier designed to fit fighter aircraft, the second was a troop transport that could carry thousands of soldiers anywhere in the world, and the third one was classified but likely carried nuclear weapons. All of which would’ve been fed by a nuclear reactor so heavily shielded the plane could crash directly into a mountain and the nuclear reactor would survive. As insane this all is it’s possible it could’ve flown if you believe that formations of strange lights are this gargantuan behemoth of a plane.

    • @435cyberteam9

Kind of reminds me of the horten xviii. Giant German flying wing jet bomber that was supposed to carry a bunch of ho229's as parasite fighters that could in theory make it to America with a full bomb load and back (I'd assume it would be nuclear capable assuming Germany got nukes), using the parasite fighters as escorts when it entered American airspace. It was just a concept, but there was a proposal to convert it to a luxury airliner after the war (assuming Germany won) which would have almost everything a cruise liner would. I think the Americans took inspiration from the ho229 and horten xviii and tried to actually make a flying wing bomber that could also be converted to an airliner, the YB-49 I think it was. It was built and was tested, but one of the two prototypes crashed during a test flight. It completely failed but later led to the B2 spirit, so I guess it wasn't a complete failure.
None of this was nuclear powered, but it's crazy to think that people actually tried to make this. And how much of it' was inspired by Nazi tech.

I'd love to know how they thought the experience in those on-wing apartments would be lmao. Like you not only have the sound of a shit ton of the largest totally-not-jet engines I've ever seen, but you also get any turbulence the plane hits multiplied since the wing acts as a massive lever

If any of the engines breaks...
    Imagine Chernobyl. 20 times over.
The radiation's going to fill the atmosphere within a day.
Also, that observation disk, the biplane configuration... it's enough to ground this thing.
Not even talking about it's offensively simple gear configuration. It would be sinking straight into the runway, leaving a mess that would make Gatwick airport jealous.

The bit with the other plane docking mid-flight is just absolutely idiotic. They're still on Earth, not in space, and they'd still need to deal with some level of momentum taking place. They can't just disable the momentum put it into some kind of zero-point state.
