Check out a hardware store or Amazon for mothballs and coyote urine, put the mothballs in the corners of the engine bay so you wont have a fire and spray the Coyote piss all one the engine bay or have your animal urinate all over the engine bay. NO JOKE... Well maybe Rocco could have a problem with that. Mice are scared of predatory animal smells. Good luck and Happy trails...

Hey Foresty, love all your videos! I'm remembering a time when my wires etc were being chewed by chipmunks/mice. And after a couple trips to a mechanic, I started slathering Vicks Vap-O-Rub on wires etc. under the hood. It literally worked. They did not come back. A cheap fix for a big problem.

The Jack Russel is a fantastic dog breed to kill rats and mice. They are happy and energetic dogs who love to work. They are regarded as some of the best ratter dog breeds in the world and are great at keeping their owner’s yards (and vans) free from rodents

I realize you are probably well aware of this but your backpack makes for a “better than nothing” helmet if your caught it rockfall and have to hunker down. It won’t keep you from getting killed but it might keep you from getting knocked out and then dying in the subsequent fall. 😬 as your scrambling for cover take your pack off and hold it on your head, or don’t forget your helmet ⛑ 😀

I tried the high frequency deterrents (even have on UA-cam for sound) and they didn’t appear to hurt my animals, however they also were not effective for mice.

Here in Brisbane Australia the city council uses fox terriers (aka Rocko) for catching rats in warehouses etc. They have teams of 6 to 10 and they are incredibily effective. Had a friend who trained them...they are either very very good dogs (such as Rocko) or very very bad dogs!!!!

In the US at least, rodent damage is covered under auto insurance. Might be worth a call before paying out of pocket. Especially if they want to replace the engine harness.

I've used ultrasonic pest control in the past around cats and dogs, experiencing no problems whatsoever. Rocko is amazing. Please stay safe while hiking such terrain basically solo! Beautiful hiking areas Forest, just beautiful...

If you havent had it on its own, without adding all those extra ingredients id give it a try. The one from the same company with the black packaging (shin black) is the rolls royce of instant stove top ramen.

I live in this very region where F.F. does these videos and it is currently 100 F during the day in the lower valleys, which are close to sea level. It cools to about 60 F at night.
A dogs life naturally is to get up early, go search for food and water then sleep the rest of the day type thing. Makes sense to take her out early all day and tucker her out so you can do your own thing. Worst thing people can do is not exercise a dog in the morning, it's all they want really. She's looking like quite the character!

Rocko was bred to be a ratter. If he had access to your under carriage at night, no rat would try to get into your engine compartment. Don't know how you would do that.
