    I really enjoyed this review, thank you! Am now 72 and was fortunate in ‘71-72 to get a job at the Rustler Lodge with free room, board & skiing! I worked there off and on during the 70’s finishing at Altra Central (center for avalanche control for both Alta & Snowbird) … then going back 12 years ago to work at Alta’s Ski School. So this place is very special to me and am extremely grateful for the time I got to ski there … and note … hiking in the Summer is gorgeous!

    Well done. Awesome video. Alta is one of the oldest ski resorts and there is a lot of cool history here as well. Also, a great ski school from what I’ve heard.

    one little thing you forgot to mention was the ski school! i used to take lessons there when i was a kid and i recall how great it was. all the ski school staff was super skilled, offering niche tips for every member of the group (if in group lessons obviously). they show you around the mountain like the local they are and make sure everyone in the group is catered too. theyre also super energetic and friendly!

    I been fortunate to be an Alta regular since 1989. Since retiring we skied Alta full time for 7 seasons with friends that are locals. You did an excellent job on you video presentation. I would note that visiting for a week may offer some great skiing or some challenging conditions that you will not encounter at other resorts. . During powder storms many sections are closed due to potential Avalanche conditions so be patient. Also pay attention to signs warning of the road closures during the ski day because they are blasting for Avalanches. You might want to leave early or be stuck at the resort. Definitely ski with a group and stay together when you go through the Avalanche gates. In many sections once your in there is no quick or easy way out. Take time to learn the terrain.

    My favorite run is off supreme. You take the cat track down right off the lift and that should take you to a lil fork in the road. Go down “rollercoaster” for a little bit and you’ll find some gates GO THRU THEM!!!! There’s ALWAYS amazing powder and it’s an extension of devils playground so it feeds right into it. It’s steep, powdery and has a bunch of trees. It’s so fun with friends and I always have a great time. I’m so lucky to be able to go here every weekend. Enjoy!!!

    Back in 1976 i could ski Alta for $20 mid week and $30 weekends at if I remember correctly. I could ski Brighton for $10 mid week... Oh, those were the days when i would skip school... Now, at 62 yrs old I may ski once a year, if I can get a free pass, and my arthritis isn't acting up...
    One more thing, I grew up at the base of Little Cottonwood Canyon. I could see the top of the Tram from my kitchen window...

    Great video. My advise would be - get a good ski instructor for 3 consecutive days. It will change your perspective on skiing. For someone who skis as mush as you seem to, you should be advanced/expert and have the all the fun available on the mountains.

      @@brandonwilliam2618 When I turned 50 a couple of years ago we were thinking of flying over the pond to visit Colorado. One goal was to watch my team the Nuggets play basketball and the other one was to go skiing in the Rockies. The pricing turned us off though. It was horrible. Alta IS "cheap" if you compare to Telluride and other resorts in Colorado. For now we'll stick to Swedish resorts due to the Swedish crown being so weak compared to the Euro and the US Dollar. When the world economy goes back to normal we'll start visiting the Alps again.

    The reason WHY Alta has a great "snow preservation" score is because of the ban on Snowboarders!! Keep them out!! 3 other resorts they can go tear up within an hours drive. Go somewhere else. And YES!! I can and DO in fact ski AND ride...so shut it!!

    You went there to review the resort, but ate at the same place all five days? You better change that approach next time. Also: Living on the resort is super expensive and yet you give them an 8 out of 10. That’s not worth more than a 5 or 6 no matter how luxurious the hotels are. An 8 would mean that there are alternatives for all wallets.

    • @trailreviews3628
      @trailreviews3628  2 роки тому +2

      We have taken multiple trips here. On our first trip, we ate at the same restaurant due to the quality and good price of dining options. On the second trip, I explored alternatives on the mountain to become accustomed to a variety of dining options. Additionally, lift tickets and food prices SIGNIFICANTLY undercut competing ski resorts, especially with the demanding terrain Alta offers. I gave Alta a fair score of 7 for having a better on mountain pricing than hotels. Hence why 3 points were deducted.

      Go to Brighton, Solitude or Snowbird. They have reasons just let them do what they want. Alta claims it is a “business decision” and it seems to be working out for them. Deer Valley and MRG are the same way

    • @ChrisJones-qw7bn

      @@ChrisJones-qw7bn I think that’s a little excessive, but Alta does benefit from this. The process they have in place clearly works for them as a business, and it does help that there are 3 world class resorts in close proximity. This is ultimately why Alta sees great mogul runs and why the snow preservation is extremely high.

      Due to the layout there are traverses like the East Baldy Traverse and High Traverse through Avalanche gates that would be a real challenge on a snowboard. Also there are many sections that have long flat run outs if you make wrong turn and trying to exit and get back from the side country.

    They gotta let snowboarders shred here. Although it would impact snow quality, it wouldn't ruin the mountain and could take it in a new direction (terrain park). Crowd management could be an issue, but because of parking reservations it's not that big of a problem.

      Besides, this resort has such a unique feel that most people wouldn’t want it to change. Some of the jumps here are crazy, just not perfectly formed into a terrain park. There’s podcasts of locals who love the atmosphere and don’t want it to change. Leave this place as is, don’t let it become what Crystal is going to be
