I can't help but feel my comment on the warframe rank list you made 8 months ago had at last a bit to do with this video haha :) This one was awesome, keep it up
Me too! 1 breakthrough for me was my own version of "Internal Family Systems", but I have a one younger part of myself mentor & console an even younger part of myself.
Dude, been a long time since I commented. Glad you are happy with the way you are now. I think it is a lot to do with perception too. I used to love characterisation you put into your vids, but I get the amount of time it must have taken. Hope you self improvement goes well. Stay happy man
I used to have your Warframe videos on in the background while grinding. Good times. I'm glad that you're working on yourself, though. That's what's most important. I feel that you talking out loud about all this is very healthy and even though I'm just a stranger, I want you to know I'm proud of you for identifying your problems and working on them. You're awesome, Ricky.
As someone inside the Autism Spectrun, i can´t really percive if my gaming habits are escapism, a hyperfocus or just a addiction, and this worries me a lot since theses days i fell only guilt by playing
Well, feeling guilt isn't good. If gaming isn't a problem for you then maybe you just need to think about it different :) Ease up on yourself and enjoy your down time.
The biggest issue with games is the replacement of sense of accomplishment. Games that trick you into thinking you're being productive by grinding for 3 hours for some "op item" are the real problem. Men especially can waste years thinking they're doing good, but if you look back on your life, you literally achieved nothing. I personally think booting up a game of Mario Kart to play with your friends and family is fine, games that you can just pick up, have a bit of fun and then finish with them in an hour or two are cool. But a game that takes over your life, feels like a parasite. Sucking on your time without you realizing it. I didn't want to mention names of games, but it's important for this example: Everyone said warframe is free. You can get ANYTHING for free if you grind for it. I say it's the most expensive game I've ever played, because I paid with my time, something that has way more value than money.
This is great stuff. Everyone is different and needs the space and time to figure out what they need. I've been playing Age of Empires 2 for 24 years straight. Im gonna be 80 and ill still be playing that game.
I enjoy gaming, yeah it does pass time and escape from your after your day job. There was a time when gaming make me unproductive to a point I'm about to get kick out of my rent house lol. But fortunately life and career find its way lol. I'm smiling thinking about it. Now still gaming with my old PC from back then. Every piece is updated except for the case, its been 15 years holding on to it till now with 2 kids and wife and a whole career too. What a life. I'm glad you got through all of this.
I started gaming as an escape, a refuge, but what I discovered were hundreds, maybe thousands of wonderful new worlds to explore and experience. I have slain countless beasts, saved hundreds of princesses, seen many stories through to their ends, happy or not, and weaved through them my own experience. Eventually, I too have grown weary, dissatisfied. Though I was hungry for more, I've seen it all so many times already... So naturally, with decades of experience, I graduated to a game developer. It is my turn to build fascinating new worlds for others to discover, explore, and hopefully enrichen with their own experiences that I had not envisioned.
Ive only been able to game with people in discord for years now, probably ever since I was in my early 20s. Guess this is a blessing in disguise. Unless I have friends to talk to while I play I just get restless and need to make art or do something else 😅 Playing drums is just too fun. If I'm by myself and have to be amused, it's always my go to.
I personally do enjoy some good moddable SP game few hours a day. But I have more important priorities like Working out+cardio+studying+others. Gaming is the last thing I do at the end of the day. After finishing most important stuff. Also NO online games for me I don’t have time for that
Really glad to hear you're in a happier place. Ironically, I came to your channel to look into if you'd made any commercial music for games specifically! I'm currently in the early stages of building a scifi themed deck building game and I think your style is a good fit. I pretty much always listen to your music when playing games like X4.
I can't exactly relate to the whole "I started playing to escape something" situation but I do agree that gaming shouldn't be prioritized over something you can achieve instead in that same time spent. I personally have been a "lazy" by nature person and couldn't really find any motivation in doing anything I didn't have any interest in so I had a lot of free time, which I spent gaming. I still do love gaming by a long shot, it's my main hobby and source of entertainment when I need to lay off some steam, but as the years went by and I finally got into University I realized that I can go for many more things instead of hunting for virtual currencies in virtual words for virtual achievements. Enrolled in a University, I'm now learning to code and I've finally decided to chase after my enthusiasm of learning new languages and I honestly feel really good about myself now and I don't feel like I'm wasting the limited time I've got on this world. Not gonna lie, kinda sad there aren't any streams where we can all geek out over funny game mechanics, ideas and lore, warframe or not but I'm glad your life took a turn for the better! Everyone deserves a happy and fulfilling life after all and I hope you can chase after your dreams Ricky! As a side note I still simp for Ash (My name here ain't the same as twitch so I hope that little note can help you figure it out. Try the goblin strat if you can't :D)
I spend more time fucking with games these days than actually playing them particularly a game i can mod, like i'll spend weeks working on a cool custom car skin or something, race it around for 10 minutes take some photos then get bored. Then i'll be like "What the hell did i make this thing for? I spent so much time carefully crafting it and i'm bored in a couple of minutes." I suppose at the end of it i've got something i can share with others.
Basically speaking my story, I realized it a very young age but did not care. Finishing achievements was almost better than ones in real life. I got a good health handle on when I was a young man, then I got married and my spouse made me feel those old things and drove me back to that escape. When you get more validation and need of your time from your online friends than your family it is hard to escape. I just play for fun now and no longer think about it until all my daily chores are finished.
Honestly, I'm on the same page as you. It was an escape from everything. If I didn't like something, so what, change it in game. I reflected and asked myself "Why do I enjoy sinking hours in game?" It boiled down to my life pretty much sucking. I decided that it's time to learn a skill and pursue a career that I actually want to do. Be somewhere I want to actually be. Great video man!
We were led astray. We forgot the Conclave, so when that new evil came, we were not prepared. This is how we failed the Orokin. You went into stasis, but not me. I searched the long path for redemption, for the kind of balance only The Conclave can create. Now I return, only to find the Tenno still herded like livestock. Horrors from beyond the Outer Terminus are coming. You must prepare. You must accept The Conclave. Let it be your teacher and I its humble guide. For true balance can only be found in the face of the ultimate enemy. Yourself.

Ok Andrew, thank you for your input. It was very interesting to hear your story of how you became "a real man". Now go invest in those stocks, will you. :)))
I'm 26 years old, and my entire life has revolved around video games. This video put into words a lot of the concerns I've had with my own behavior the past 5 years. I'm not ready to put it down, but it really highlights the need to diversify my time spent. This has become my coping mechanism for financial and existential dread. Now that Ive started actually trying to save for my first gaming PC, I can see the deficits in my own set of "adult life skills" Even if all you want to do is sit and play video games while the world fucks itself into oblivion, the best way to do that is to spend energy building a life for yourself. Opens you up to everything else life has to offer too.
I'm sad that we won't have our occasional Warframe streams anymore, but really glad that you are in a better place in your life.
See you around!
Thanks, pythonxi 💜
I can't help but feel my comment on the warframe rank list you made 8 months ago had at last a bit to do with this video haha :) This one was awesome, keep it up
As a man I am still trying to learn to show my emotions even as an adult
It can be tough, man. All I can say is with confidence comes an end to caring what other people think... then it gets easier. Best of luck 💜

Needed to hear this. I have two boys 14 and 10. Been thinking about this same thing. Thanks for the reinforcement.
Glad to help, SAINT. Best of luck 💜
Well said, I have also begun that journey also. It is good to see that others are also on the same path.

A really honest and introspective video. Good on you Ricky.
I'm genuinely happy for you, and wish you all the best in every aspect of your life.
Thank you 💜 I really appreciate that.

I first found you when you did the fallout 4 raider king.. it’s sad to see you quit gaming I really enjoyed your raider king videos
I have found lots of friends through games. Online playing games that interest me. Games have been an escape at one point bow it is a chill time.

So Ricky isn't excited for duviri either🤔 thats cool man. I gotta think about changes too😅
I'm waaaaaay behind on Warframe news. I don't even know if Duviri is out yet or not.
what clan did you play in vampire?
Toreador, of course ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
@@RickySummer I should have known! haha
I hit a point and stopped playing games for about 2 years. When I started gaming again, my relationship with it was far healthier.
That's fantastic to hear :)
Awww, how sweet to see that you slowly wake up from this dream. That what is unconscious becomes conscious
But eve online is not a reward and is very social. (its just pvp nonstop)
Haha the sigma grindset of games.
