This video helped me realize the proper method as I had not been slowly equalizing pressure and opening but rather trying to dispense under pressure from the ISI. Have had a custom made soda bubbling for 30min now and am very satisfied.

I just bought one of these because commercial soda is becoming more scarce in supply and too expensive, and buying $70 CO2 cannisters for an expensive and non-reliable carbonator would cost more than continuing to buy commercial soda. I'm looking forward to replacing my usual brand soda intake with home sodas made with Oleo-Saccharum and others candied goodies. Thanks for the valuable info!

For instance: I have trouble with atomisers spraying big jets of vermouth all over everything because the liquid has more body from residual sugar than say water or something high proof like absinthe, is there a secret to getting a nice fine mist?!
I used your method to carbonate my DIY soft drinks without buying a big CO2 tank and a proper corny keg. It costs a little over 10%, what I otherwise would have spent. Thanks for the help!
Is this the recommended method only for making up a flavoured soda inside the siphon, or even for just plain soda water? I've experienced the rapid decarbonation issue just with plain soda, but I left the tube in.

Can you charge the siphon twice for extra carbonated soda so that when you pour and inevitably lose some carbonation it will still be quite bubbly?
Yes absolutely.

Works for either. Just remember to a) keep the lid sealed and b) keep the soda very cold in the fridge. It’ll stay carbonated.

Yes you can! Just be sure to cap it, and store it in the fridge.
In your tonic recipe you mention for cinchona bark, red will be more assertive, yellow is milder and less bitter - do you have a preference?
I always used red because that was all that was available to me, but have recently tried yellow and found it really enjoyable.

I guess you’ll end up with… slightly more carbonated water? Unless I’m missing something.
Neat trick. I just use a mixing glass, or mix straight in the serving glass. Allows more than 1 flavored carbonated option at a time.
I have a problem with all my sodas having a faint taste and smell of burnt plastic. Anyone able to help with that ?
