  • welcome back friends to episode 57 of Songs From Home, today I'm sharing a song by a wonderful artist, Robert Vincent …it’s called “The Ending” from his new album “In This Town You’re Owned” produced by our hero @ethanjohnsmusic…
    Last week Robert was honored at the Americana UK Awards as the winner of both UK Artist of the Year and UK Album of the Year! He is a writer and singer of unusual beauty and depth and I hope you
    will go seek out his work at all the usual places.
    Also an addendum to the video…I actually played one more show in 2020 in addition to
    the one at the lovely Cadogan Hall in London where Robert and I met - I played WOLF TRAP and filmed “One Night Lonely” doing it! Wolf Trap I love you so…
    Last week I must have gone through 100 boxes of tissues while reading your comments after posting “Come On Come On” here - I cannot thank you all enough for sharing such poignant, beautiful and heart expanding memories, thoughts, and anecdotes. I came away again feeling so incredibly humbled and fortunate for this community that #songsfromhome has forged, we may not have met in person, but we are not strangers…there is such joy and comfort in that.
    *this and that*: just finished the 2020 Booker Prize winner “Shuggie Bain” by @douglas_stuart, and I’m still trying to put myself back together. Now beginning “Hamnet” by Maggie O’Farrell, and it took barely a few pages to be completely immersed. I’m still bingeing "The Great British Baking Show” , no soggy bottoms! Angus loved the snow and is sad that it’s all melted…
    Until the next time, stay well, stay strong, wear your mask everywhere, carry on, and
    #staymighty !!!

    Here in Northern California, not able to sleep, wondering if Mary, Angus & White Kitty are up. Hopefully, they're preparing another beautiful song to share with us this morning. My request for today, St. Valentine's
    Day, would be 'Grow Old with Me'. Mary, you sing it with such passion & honesty that it brings me to tears. Thank you for the gifts you've brought to us throughout this long and difficult year. I don't want these songs from home to come to an end, however, when they do I hope to hear you in concert one day. God bless you!

It’s always so nice to meet up with people from around the world every Sunday. I love the kindness, support, and fellowship that is shared here. Hello Songs From Homies! 😀. Stay well everyone. Peace. Good evening Ms.N.N., Thought I’d try something new as I’m getting near the end of this second stroll. It seems the songs that get stuck in my head are the ones I can’t remember the lyrics to or it’s just the refrain over and over again. Staying up later than I should, it resulted in 11 or twelve, it depends on if I count double albums as one, coming in the mail. Good double of Roy Orbison, The Beach Boys and 9 of John Prine. I still haven’t figured out how I missed him all these years of following the Folk scene. It’s why I’ve been missing lately, lots of vinyl to spin. Hope you’re filling your life with music and peace and let my mind float with the Ms. Mary’s music. Blessings to you

    Thank you for sharing this wonderful song and for bringing Robert Vincent to our attention. Also, thanks so much for resuming "This and That" -- am keeping a running list of all the books you have mentioned and have already read a number of them. This week I have been especially struck by the closeness and strength of your SFH community. It is something that is truly special and needed during these days. Stay safe, healthy and mighty, dear Mary Chapin. Hope that you receive your vaccination soon! Love to you, Angus and WK.

Like you said we may not of met in person , but we are not strangers is so special to me. The Pandemic prompted songs at home . To think you actually can read comments from the Audience from around the world you played for years now is pretty cool. We grew old with you . We are also in The Mary Chapin Carpenter Group on FB . 17k's . Great group of people. My go to place with all the craziness going on in the world. Thank you ! Bless you -WK -Angus.

It gave me that glimmer of hope that I'm going to be OK and reaffirms that she still loves me from heaven. Your music has been a godsent through this pandemic struggle and I can't thank you enough for freely giving of yourself and your talents in this way. May the love and blessings you send out to the world be returned back to you a hundred fold!!

    Thank you Ms Mary Chapin for welcoming us back, yeeah:-) I do everything slower than friends. Started wondering at your photos slower, thinking today whether that is a little pond and whether that is a little pine tree next to it. It took me longer time to speak out that listening to you I feel Healing, see Light and Love, more exactly able to see them. I have no organized words today which I think you will love and don't mind:) In the inside I spent my week wandering in your song Sometimes Just The Sky, hi to Patti Smith:) Back to the song, how great it is that we are never left without words, just a title of yours can tell how one feels. Angus is great on IG, I would gladly run with him! We have never met in real life which would be so great but(!) always God bless modern technology!!! Just a little fun story, played the clown a little in volleyball this week before training to make kids laugh, they loved it. This sport is not prohibited and keeps them very fit, becoming more and more popular, bless the local coaches who work endlessly with them. Smiles smiles smiles to You! Best moments are to see when you look happy:) and mighty! Please take that good care and please Everyone. Thank you for helping me see Light and Love again, closed my heart on them some years ago. Small steps, with my patience developing nicely:) Angus, White Kitty!! And thank you always🌺

      Hi Audrey, I enjoyed your posting last week. You complete the circle of your thoughts and feelings, well thought out on paper? Or screen? Sometimes it feel weird to say “write” or “comment “ as I’m not really writing as I remember? Touching a keypad nor do I feel you or I or most who share I would consider “comments”. The word seems to cold, distant to what we all share. I’ll drag out my thesaurus from college and see if I can arrive with a better word. Keep sharing because along with Ms. Mary’s song these feelings we all share are also healing. That’s something that we all need from time to time.

    • @audreyfelso993
      @audreyfelso993 3 роки тому

      @@wjcorrinne4052 Hi William, thank you for your kind words. My thoughts about all of us writing are that I would surely keep the word write as it is a very rich one with deep and lyric meaning to me and would not think of what but to Whom, write to Mary Chapin Carpenter because we would like to express our gratitude, this is how I feel about writing here, wish it would last long...but that's a very controversial thing we all know...praying for everyone restart their routine nicely, hoping for strong hearts for those times to carry on holding all beauty in there... It was just about yesterday that I imagined all of us friends sending our messages of gratefulness and wanted to start with this thought but Angus blew my mind away:)Yes, pen and paper. And...never want to talk too much about it as we all have our everyday context and challenges, working in a church school, seeing kids 6-14 still having the driving force to learn while practically everything else is prohibited, I feel shocked many days just step on the break and try to keep me silent about it. Church, learning, volleyball and love are allowed:-) This is what we have and MCC takes my mind amongst all these. Take good care!

Staying up way too late and next thing I knew I was the owner of 9 albums by John Prine plus a couple other artists. It’s almost been a year since Ms. Mary’s last SFH, miss them those Sunday mornings. Still writing and putting your thoughts and feelings on paper? She mentioned Amy Speace, whom she had worked with in Nashville....a name I recognized from listening to Ralph McLean's program on women of country. He played Amy Speace's song, "There used to be horses here"....that is the song,, right now, that I cannot get out of my head. It reminds me of your song "Livingston", which is another favorite of mine. Connections....everywhere.

      Emily Barker is having a concert from "Mandolin" dot com Feb 26,2021. Mary Chapin Carpenter has given me a branching list of musicianship connections too! Like a galaxy with different orbits of luminaries! John Jennings, John Prine, Rosanne Cash, Joan Baez, The Indigo Girls, Lucinda Williams, Shawn Colvin, Jon Leventhal, Emily Barker, Tift Merritt, Gretchen Peters, Allison Moorer, Shelby Lynne, Jana Pochop, Brandy Clark, covers of Springsteen and the Beatles and Lucinda Williams and now Rob Vincent, and now you mention Amy Speace for me to learn about, and Ursula from these comments previously told me about Mary Gauthier, and I am leaving someone out!? And then there are the authors and podcasts and radio hosts and bingeing Pamela Adlon's Better Things which lead me to her soundtrack that circled back to Shelby Lynne. And then the real and invented names of people writing here are all orbiting from Songs From Home.

      Well said...an ever expanding universe to explore. I especially like seeing authors and book titles. Our libraries are still closed. One can get e-books and there is curbside pickup for books and other materials. Without a starting point though, of a particular author or title, I find it difficult to browse for a book to checkout online. Did you see Brandy Clark's NPR Tiny Desk (Home) concert? Won me over.

      @@patruzicka6372 I know NPR's Tiny Desk concerts, so will gladly see that! A number of people I listed performed in that series too. I did listen to 4 songs of Amy Speace's so far. Bravo to "Ginger Ale and Lorna Doones." Libraries are in similar precautions here too. I don't have a "pod," but stayed on the phone during an hour of watching some light fare last month. Maybe MCC you tube may multi purpose as a book club too!

      @@Ma_Ba Mary Gauthier is new to me. I've been spending some time listening to her. I need a lot more with her. In her Tedx Talk she speaks of the power of music. I think everything that encompasses SFH fits her words.... “Songs create empathy and open the heart. An opened heart can open the mind. When the mind is opened, it changes a person.”

    • @Ma_Ba
      @Ma_Ba 3 роки тому +1

      @@patruzicka6372 Wow. I had not known that she made a Tedx talk. I like art that changes me. I think that about novels, but get so immersed "there" and drift into so many associations so that I've become a slower reader than I used to be. Reading is some sort of a quest journey for me. Susceptible to being put through something though. I churn music differently and think revisiting music and paintings is such a different experience than with the longform written word.
      Just some postscript on Mary Gauthier: I only just learned of her from Ursula (who posts here with a "U") and then heard her sing "Mercy" on an interview on Sarah Silverman's twitter feed. Blew me away. Since then, I see she does a long livestream on you tube on Sundays at some slot after Mary Chapin's SFH. Realize that Allison Moorer @1allisonmoorer does a biweekly Sunday IGLTV also. They put out tip jars, but not a wall.

    Hi Mary, hi fellow ‘homeys’, it’s great that SFH has become a little global community. I’ve always felt music brings people together and is a force for good. In a world where we read or hear so often that the internet is bad and full of evil, here’s proof that it isn’t always so and there’s lots of good people out there too. This is such a lovely song, it’s easy to see why it stays in your head. Here in the UK we have more snow on the way with temperatures barely above freezing with a high windchill from the east. I don’t think Winter is quite done with us yet. Until the next one, have a good week everyone. PS Angus is adorable at the start of the video. You can tell he’s loved; he’s so good natured, a real softy 😊

      Hi Dear Ursula, truly hoping you are doing well. I believe words that we repeat from time to time can be said with deep meaning, and I say it with that meaning. Practising elbow bumps, feeling kind of the mood to restart doing some sports regularly for some unknown reason this week, and saving the smile in our little inside and outside world here, this is how things are tried to be done:-) I miss our long long conversations hoping this is fine as well, you are a cultural source, I learn from you a lot. As MaBa says, some things are lost in translation but I hope the gist arrives, maybe the Orion comes to help:-) Be strong please, sending some addition to it:-)

      Yes, Orion is hanging in the ink-blue night-sky, obscured by a few feathery clouds drifting by.😊
      I am well, thank you, and I enjoyed your reference to Volley Ball so very much: it is a MOST wonderful team sport! I played it throughout high school and university, as did all of our 3 children. Big smile at your clowning around for your students 😊...I see that as eminent proof that you have recovered really well? -
      Another thing that I absolutely NEED to tell you: when I was 10/11 years old, my grandfather introduced me to philately, and - for reasons that are, unfortunately, totally unknown to me - my main focus was on Magyar Posta!! I cannot claim to know much about your 'Heimatland' at all, but ever since then, it always held a certain fascination!
      So, if travelling will EVER be a reality again, after responding to the question 'What If We Went To Italy' - 😉😊 - I am dreaming of stopping by a little further north-east...
      I am allowed to dream, not so?
      Sending you warm wishes for ongoing resilience amidst the general Covid-Chaos. And have a peaceful and truly recharging sleep tonight. 💞

Then dreaming of travelling to distant places, I did this of an MCC concert once in my life. We can dream! Hungary and me await you always, and I love Italy. We have a saying, 'anywhere you go in Italy, it is wonderful'. Volleyball...my Dad's younger brother was a PE teacher, specializing excellently in volleyball, today's players and coaches here learnt everything from him. He was a phylatelist, had 7-8 or maybe more big albums, I was a child when I last saw them. The collection was beautiful, our Posta must have been great maybe, just a guess:) My uncle passed away to the Lord some years ago...I played volleyball until I was 15 then switched to swimming for decades due to ankle and shoulder issues. Still love volleyball and shoulders still do their job, ok, will look for the chance to play clownish kind of again:-)Heartbreak in its most beautiful way how we are connected. These are my favorite songs. The house or the campfire or the quick and listen to those intimate songs that she plays my goodness. After Nancy Griffith, this girl isn't it? Is she's now number one? That's all there is to it. If you ever read this mary, I sent new songs for free to review tweak and maybe play. They're good ballads but you're manager won't let him get to you. I can write a song every night if I can get grounded and walk out through the woods and the countrysidied I don't do too well at my desk. I gotta put the tools around me. And the best way to do that is to walk through him. And I can go back in time whatever it takes to bring that song to. Life. Nancy Griffith, Sean coven and the indigo girls.❤❤❤ And Sean coven i've loved her since billy jack one tenth soldier. Correspond if you would like to know if the person behind the song. I'm old now.

    Good evening Ms Mary, I’m a little behind today, stayed up late listening to music on the iPad. I’m guessing from your photo that I was off a week or so on the snow coming your way. Was that what Angus was gazing at so intently out your windows? No doubt White Kitty had her own window to lay in the sun’s warmth on a bright Winters day. Our pets give us so much more than we return to them. It’s hard to feel down when there’s a wet nose or fluffy warm purring within earshot. Do we all take it for granted our pets affection towards us? I certainly hope not. It’s very subtle but we are in our pets but they are more into us. Into us in ways we can’t imagine unless we take the time to see, to listen, to touch and to accept their grace they so freely share. They help make us who we are. I’ve spent the past few nights listening to musicians from my past. My evening journeys have been shared with the likes of Peter, Paul & Mary, bless her, Gordon Lightfoot’s Gords Gold, Harry Chapin among others. I rediscovered Donovan and Catch the Wind, peaceful memories and then there you were with Joan Baez with the same song. What a pleasant surprise, it made my evening. As always bless all those working daily to keep our worlds turning, watch over and bless those who continue to fight this virus. They need our prayers though help is coming with the vaccines the virus is also changing and not for the better. So we need to give our extra prayers to those valiant souls that give their all. Finally a very big Blessing for you, Ms. Mary for bringing some sunlight into our Winter Sunday mornings.
