What "Come On Come On" did was validate everything she had done before in the way Nashville could understand: record sales. Add the CMA Female Vocalist of the Year awards that also came along, and her place in music history was cemented. She didn't make records in Nashville and recorded mostly with her own band, something that 'just wasn't done' in that time. And she made it work. The time may have passed, but we still have Chapin, and she still gives us music, from the previous millennium until now. And we appreciate it. And that's 'mighty' good.
She's a year and a half younger than I am. You'll really notice it in your 50's, but in your 60's, you blink and it's christmas again. I retired 4 and a half years ago, blink it's today. I hope Mary is a happy lady, always thought her music was beautiful as was she.
"Come on Come on" stunned me. The entire record. I had never heard Mary Chapin Carpenter before. Had never experienced the deep, wise resonance that each of her songs tap into. The title track in particular struck me like lightning---how many songs you hear during your entire lifetime have the power to do that? . Even all these years later, listening to MCC so often is every bit as magical as when I first this song. Except now I'm actually PREPARED to be gutted---and that's a testament to her ever expanding, infinite talent.
This is the purest form of musical communication: heart speaking to heart. I always look forward to coming into this accepting circle, with MCC, Angus, and the White Kitty who seldom appears, to hear more of these healing songs that hold up throughout the years and mean more now than ever. You cannot know how that resonates with your listeners, at least with this one. God bless.
Oh how I wish I could craft a post that could make you understand how deeply your words and music have shaped me as the woman I am today. I was a newly divorced, single mother and played your music repeatedly. The end result was an independent, seasoned, and stronger individual in this world. I wish words of gratitude could repay you for the inspiration and bolstering your talents have given me. I feel you are woven into the fabric that has made me who I am. Thank you for your gifts. These songs bring such joy in the remembering. Bless you! 💪🏻
Your music has always meant so much to me, especially this song. “Between Here and Gone” got me through the darkest days I’ve ever faced, and “The Dreaming Road” feels like you were looking over my shoulder while I was journaling. You have such a tremendous gift to create music that is so universal but still feels so personal. Many thanks.
Hi Mary, it’s a coincidence you mention your parents; we were going through some old boxes we had from clearing out our parents’ house the other day and discovered my Dad’s old diary from the fifties. In it he logged all his various road trips and adventures on his motorbike, including the day he met the ‘nice girl’, who would later become his wife and our Mum. It’s moving to read and it’s clear it was love at first sight; a chance encounter on holiday that would change the course of both their lives forever. They were married for just a few months shy of fifty years, when my Dad sadly passed away. Both are gone now. Life is such a fragile and precious thing, often chance and luck play such an important role. Thanks again for another wonderful SFH and congratulations on the 4 x platinum award for Come On Come On. So many good songs on there, ‘He Thinks He’ll Keep Her’ has always been a favourite, as has ‘I Am a Town’. Stay mighty everyone 😊
a year ago today I heard episode 1 of your series, which continues to this day, and have never regretted it. You give people a lot of joy with it, not least because of the performance with the animals in your home. Thank you very much for that. 🍀💞👍
That is the most beautiful rendition of Come On, Come On I have ever heard. Memories of my youth come flooding back. Where has the time gone? Thank you, Mary. Stay mighty! 💪 ❤ 💪
Certainly a jewel in the crown of a marvelous career. Not an exaggeration to say that this song and album led me out of one of those dark times Camus captured so well: “In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer. And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there’s something stronger - something better, pushing right back.” 🙏👏🏼🙏
Thank you for citing Camus .I am having a rough time and Camus' Sisyphus was formative reading for me. Useful to frame it other than shouldering the boulder, while putting a skip in the step in the ups and downs of vicissitudes of life.
Dear Ms Mary Chapin, yesterday I watched the Angus video on your IG site feeling would love to give him a hug and still do:-)So good it's Sunday again! Most of the time I stand on the ground with strong feet but lately I came to feel what would I do without seeing and hearing you on Sundays? Thank you for the dawns that I still love and always get up early for the premier announcements. We all look up from wherever we are these days. Thank you also for Traveler's Prayer on your The Dirt And The Stars playlist. 'I'm scanning the skies...see with my heart...jaded eye..' and the whole song moved into my heart. You love the world to be a better place! I have one last thought today that you will never accept being so modest. Read a bit about the Chief Musician at the beginning of some Psalms yesterday and feel like we were addressed by you this way, in gentle goodness. Sending in thought some squeakies to Angus, some good naps to White Kitty, my love and trust to you. Please take care and please Everyone take care. I pray I am not very impolite by writing so long. Thank you always & have a lovely day&week, so good to hear you today🌺
Your music came with me in 1990 when I married and moved away from the US. I’ve listened over and over and perked my ears any time i heard your name or voice along the way. What a joy to have found you again for these weekly visits to your warm and welcoming home, to spend a short moment listening to a friend’s soothing voice and gentle songs of love and life. Thank you for keeping me sane this past year and god bless. Keep on keeping on.
28 years ago - hard to believe. And yet, all those years later, I still find myself holding my breath listening to this song. An exquisite song from a practically perfect record - thank you for the pleasure.
I am now firmly convinced that NOT releasing the Songs from Home series as a DVD set AND the One Night Lonely livestream also as a stand alone DVD would be a massive miscarriage of justice. Yes I KNOW it was a pandemic delayed hassle just getting the CD out in late February. No excuses. Persevere and share that genius talent and poetry with the world. THANK YOU.
I just saw this video again in 2023. I was so buoyed by your songs from home during the lockdown of 2020. Thank you so much for sharing your music, Angus and white kitty.
Thank you for these little mini concerts. After a hard day of wearing a mask all day and I mean ALL day (thank you who wear them too! Remember folks it's to protect your fellow earthlings) I always look forward to your song and the comfort of your voice as you give encouragement to us. Thank you.
I remember first hearing this song at your concert in Portland, OR in the early 1990's. You introduced it by reminding us it was a soft beckoning, not an impatient c'mon, c'mon. I've think of that every time I hear it.
Wonderful Mary Chapin Carpenter, lots of memories that flow through my mind and more so during these times of seclusion, you seem to bring out a lot of everything with your choices of the many beautiful songs you have written over the years. Thank you Mary Chapin Carpenter, be well mighty and safe. Please scratch Angus and White Kitty’s ears and a soft pat on there furry heads. 😘
Hi mary angus and white kitty thanks for the songs your an angel you make a dull day bright we made it because you helped us with music lovely views and inviting us into your many many thanks be safe stay strong 😊😊🐕🐺
I was a rock and roller and have no idea how I stumbled across you 30+ years ago. But I'm glad I did. I've sing your songs to myself, in the car, in church where my guitar and voice shared them with a congregation listening to the wisdom an humanity of your words. Along with Jackson you touch my heart so deeply all the time. Come On Come On is one of my favorites. Thank you.
Such a great song! Life strolls on time goes quickly, I can't believe 70 is just a couple of years away. I've been blessed beyond measure and find the words often keeps me smiling and carrying on. Thank you Mary for another wonderful tune.
With days so similar I look forward to Songs from Home. It’s Sunday! Each song touches me deeply. I need the anchor of Sunday and the song that comes with it. Thank you.
Ahhhh such peace you inspire. As I sit here listening, Nanda (my golden) snoozing at my side, Sukanya (my tuxedo kitty) sleeping on my legs, gentle rain falling out of this Pacific Northwest sky... and your beautiful song a gentle reminder that in this moment, all is well. Thank you (once again) from my heart to yours!! Peace. love & blessings to you and Angus and White Kitty. xxx
I think one of the reasons that I don’t miss the band is that the guitar and voice here draws their sounds into my head. I hear Jon Caroll’s exquisite piano fills, John Jenning’s guitar, all through this solo performance. Great one.
This was so beautiful, it was like flowers raining from the heavens. Deep gratitude as always, for your lovely voice to help us smile, cry, and feel love. Thank you, Mary. 🙏❤️
Wow 4x Platinum, Incredible. I've listened to this beautiful song several times over the past few weeks. You still sing it just as beautifully as 28 years ago. Thank you, Mary fore sharing this with us again. Stay well and Stay mighty!
Good evening from Wenatchee Washington. I just heard the most beautiful and most exact description of MCC's singing. Fil on Wings of Pegasus was describing the music of James Taylor but it is so fitting for our Mary. He used the description of "talking on pitch." That is our Mary exactly! Thank you Fil for the use of this phrase. So looking forward to tomorrow morning.
This is the album with which I am the most familiar. I know every song, which has served me well on Karaoke nights. Yikes, 28 years, I love these songs as much now as I did then!
Thank you MCC for lifting our spirits again with this beautiful song 💐 We've been listening to Songs From the Movie lately.... what a gorgeous arrangement of Come On Come On 😊❤
One of my very favorite of your songs! Thank you so much for coming into our homes each week! I'm blind (only very limited functional vision in my left eye) and your Angus is as handsome as my guide dog Zeke who is also a Golden gem! 🦮❤
Life is good with good friends and great music to get us through . Thank you so much MCC for all your beautiful music . It makes my life so much better
Congratulations again on the platinum status - 4 times !!!! 🥂✨ This song, the album, and you are absolutely amazing! 💐 Thank you so much for everything you do for us. Hugs to you, Angus, and White Kitty 🤗💜
If Angus gave you a hug, would you guys be eye to eye if his front paws on your shoulders? Or, taller? He certainly is a wonderful Soul Companion. 💜🐾🐾💜🌸
So many of the comments here reflect my thoughts and feelings about SFH so much better than I ever could. Just know that my weekly visits to your home are such an important part of my life now. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful gift and heart with us! Is there any chance that "This and That" might reappear in the near future? I really enjoyed hearing about what you were reading or watching or other suggestions that you had. Much love to you, Angus and WK. Stay well and safe, MCC.
Missed by only a bit this morning. Then a reminder and I said "Uh Oh, late again. " Kind of funny. A weekly fix of music and beauty. Like family. Sometimes we have to find that elsewhere in this political spectrum we find ourselves. Thank you for your music! A treasure in the universe.
Oh Lord how much do I love you woman. It's like coming in from the cold to a warm place. Of course you would love a precious dog like that. Me too. My baby is a Cotton de tulear named Otis.
So loved this today! MCC, this song is among my favorites of ANY song. Thank you so much! I mentioned this to my wife, she asked , "why do you love it so much? " All I could say was the feeling it leaves me with every time I hear it is a very warm good one. Thanks also for making every Sunday during this pandemic time a little something to look forward to!
Good morning Mary. Beautiful job as always from both you and Angus. Another great song that pulls long lost memories and emotions from a time long past and buried in a place long forgotten. Sometimes best left undisturbed, however, worth the remembering if the price is the tune. Thank you. Stay safe.
Along with “Ideas Are Like Stars”, my favorite, one of the very best songs in the soundtrack of my life. It has been a very tough week, this was perfect- thank you, Mary, a gift from the heart as always💜
Took a long walk in the sun this morning and on the way back I picked up my 87 years old mom, she lives nearby. We're waiting together for a new song from Mary. I'm very curious which song it will be.
28 years ago...congratulations on the recognition you earned then, for music that is both timeless and 'present' for any living moment that a listener hears it, whether for the first or 1000th time. In high school at that time, on afternoons in biology class I looked forward to two things: returning home to walk with our family Labrador and listen to this album on the Walkman. Thank you for all that your work has added to so many people's memories and life stories.
Mary, thanks again and indeed "where did all that time go?"... may I suggest that it went into the fine aging of your talent and towards the ever-improving music that you bring to the world.
Your best album ever. 28 years ago. I remember my late wife and I loving this and your concert in Glasgow to promote it. "Thank you Thank you Thank you" you said at the side curtain b4 an encore. Marvellous won't ever forget it Mary 💋
Congrats on the platinum anniversary of this lovely album and title song. I know them all by heart and now I know that it’s been 28 years that I’ve been listening to them, along with so many others. I believe, if my memory doesn’t fail me, that I saw you in concert in Easton, PA at the State Theater when you toured for this album. Thanks for all the memories and music. 💕
Brava MCC!! Really enjoyed singing along with you today. You have a way of always making a good day great! Thank you! Stay safe, keep the faith and stay mighty!
😂😂😂 I watch the Great British Baking Show too! The Master classes are really neat. That’s where Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry actually make the items made in technical challenges. The episodes are so interesting..........The Come on Come on album is one of my favorites. Thank you for doing this song. Your songs from home give me the needed boost to be ready for another week.
One of my favorite songs from anyone, anytime, ever. Always makes me cry - and what a perfect end to a remarkable album. I've been waiting to hear this song since you started your "Songs From Home" series and just reading the title of this video started the waterworks - in a good way. Something about the wistful yearning just cuts me to the core. So thank you. Thank you for twenty eight years ago, thank you for the hundreds of times I've listened to that album and thank you for today.
Pretty much pure music perfection right there. I drove a lot of miles on the "River Road" myself, both in Bethesda and along the Severn River in Annapolis, although I'm sure my drives were much more boring! The only exciting drive down River Road would have been the night the parking lot in Glen Echo swallowed a bunch of cars back in May of 1989 while those poor people were having a good time at the Irish Inn...
Dear MCC I simply want to tell you how much I love your music. I listen to anyone who writes and plays from a special place. Copeland, Joplin{Janice or Aaron}, Seger, Buffet, Zeppelin,Lightfoot and I can go on and on. So , the point is my dear, you have been given{and worked very hard} a beautiful rare gift to touch such a wide variety of listeners and I thank you. Now I must continue listening to my skipping version of " Shooting straight in the Dark" and then maybe some Black Sabbath, what can I say.....Good is good. Thanks Again so much, Andrew Maunders
Congratulations on your first Platinum anniversary! I love that you can set a whole stage with just your song, voice, and guitar!! And sweet Angus falling asleep at your feet! My dog falls asleep in his bed under piano and snores loudly - I can alway count on a duet with him (LOL)!! Thanks again, Mary! ❤️
Congratulations on this...I'm gonna call it a milestone...it fits. So thats HUGE huh...I love that song. Hey u gotta birthday coming up .so early happy birthday 🎂 🥳 lol stay n stay safe always mighty. Xoxo 😘

I played the heck out of that CD 28 years ago and I still love it to this day. 💕🎶🌹

It's still one of my favorite CDs and my very favorite to sing a long too when I'm making a long drive.

I also like End of my Pirate days
Took a long walk in the sun this morning and on the way back I picked up my 87 years old mom, she lives nearby. We're waiting together for a new song from Mary. I'm very curious which song it will be.
Such an amazing storyteller. I was there back with you in those days and still here now. Thank you.
Love this song.
We love you, Angus and White Kitty MCC.
One of my favorites.....thanks!
That song is so incredible. Your voice and guitar playing are flawless. Thanks Mary
Today will be a beautiful day!
Yes, it will be!
Seeing the announcements on Sunday mornings (RSA) brings a big smile and oodles of energy!🤸♀️🤸♀️💗
One of my very most favorite of MCC’s classics- and the album is still one of the top 5 I own. Thank you.
I loved every song on this album!! I wore out the CD I think. As touching as it was 20 years ago. Thank you, Mary!
Mary
Your hair is beautiful pulled back...such sweet words....
your songs and the Christmas album brought us lot of joy this winter and the celebrations. Sacred life is.
Your voice is so beautiful and soothing MCC! Thank you so much for sharing 💕
As usual you let us into yourself! And at the same time reach our heart.
Very lovely cathartic song--
Thoughtful, mellow... healing
Stay Mighty!!
Dear MCC
I simply want to tell you how much I love your music.
Thanks Again so much,
Andrew Maunders
Congratulations on your first Platinum anniversary! I love that you can set a whole stage with just your song, voice, and guitar!! And sweet Angus falling asleep at your feet! My dog falls asleep in his bed under piano and snores loudly - I can alway count on a duet with him (LOL)!! Thanks again, Mary! ❤️
