Had the same on an ideal combi 24. Worked ok for years before it started to regularly lock out. When i tested found it running at 5mbr when hot tap was opened. All 15mm with loads of elbows. Replaced with a track pipe due to awkwardness of the run. Sweet as a nut now

While working as an engineer for Baxi I had to go to a job at my next door neighbours house (Im only surprised the office didn't book the job to an engineer that lived 40 miles away!). The guy was a self employed plumber who had fitted a new Baxi combi in his loft. The job came in as CH ok but no DHW. Inlet pressure was dropping way down when a hot tap was run. He'd fitted his boiler and not even checked his inlet gas pressures.

Great vid mate. Just shows the importance of basic checks before jumping too far ahead with probable causes..
Always nice to see approaches of different engineers.

Carl plumbing & heating Thanks very much, the idea is to keep posting vids if there are enough people interested ? And also to do a Plumbers weekly diary if watchers are interested I will start doing that in the New year.

Great vid, I'm glad someone else gets same probs as me ! But praise where praise is due you're so much faster. Customers dont always tell you the whole truth. If only 2 years old that boiler is still under warranty. Strange the customer didn't phone Worcester to fix for free ?? Which usually means their mate/ dad/ family friend fitted it and dont want to get them in trouble. And these things never usually happen one day. Its been like this for ages or else same family friend changed the electric hob over for a gas one and tapped into their own shoddy workmanship and it all went wrong from there !! That and the Gov went wrong. Perhaps same family friend messed that up when they tried to increase pressure from there. Mystery. Hope you charged a profession rate for that. Only the customer knows what really happened and they're not telling..!!!

I once had a similar fault, scratching my head before deciding to lift the floor.
22mm from the boiler, under the floor into 15mm for 15 meters, the back up into 22mm for 2 meters to meter.
The mind boggles. Still, a nice new 22mm run put in, works now happy days 👍

Perhaps the 'weak' mixture caused the Gasses to burn too hot and over the years damaged the Electrodes, so although they were able to work with a poor mixture initially, eventually they failed. But when the pipework was the correct size and the correct stoichiometric ratio was achieved the electrodes could cope with it?? I note that you did have ignition at one point, so possibly the flame detection electrode....

camladere2k8 Get an old skool heating guy to service it.. clean out the loft tank couple of shots of inhibitor. Maybe a pump one day and a possible gentle flush. Sometimes I have known people to turn the F/e tank off upstairs to keep an eye on whether system has a leak also if the boiler were to go it won’t keep refilling 👍👍👍 easy access it’s no trouble . Combi will never last 20 plus sorry. If you do have a new boiler make sure it’s well flushed and a Magnaclean fitted not another make 👍👍

Had plenty like this but there is no way that worked ok for any time at all, had to put a 28 mm main to a boiler last year, it was a 30kw boiler 24 metres from the gas meter on a 15 mm main, it was tripping out more then a junkie at a free drug party, the polish chap who originally fitted it refused to sort it out. It works ok now though.
