As soon as I get my home built, And I by a Lathe..LOL. I want to make a large lazy susan for my dining table. You Inspired that Idea from this video. Thank You!!!
Hi 👋, Peggy , Happy New year 🥳 to you Peggy and to All that is watching, A beautiful looking plater , Very enjoyable watching you turn it. PHIL FROM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOULIN FRANCE.
What a wonderful way to end the video -- A beautiful smile from Maine. That is a striking beautiful plate. The Butternut does give off a golden glow. You are truly a naturally talented artist that has found her calling. Just beautiful.
The butternut platter turned out great! Excellent job! I always appreciate your commentary. Thank you. I just lost a cousin to dementia issues, thank you for all you fo for that cause. Much appreciated.
Beautiful platter Peggy! Love the grain and the overall look. As someone new to turning, I was very impressed watching you deal with a blank that size! On a more personal note, I would like to thank you for all you do for those suffering with Dementia. My wife has FTD so it is a cause dear to my heart! Great having you back, love your work 🙏🏼🤠
Easy to see why you talked about the glow of the wood. Even before the Acks, it really did have that glow. The grain is astounding. As others have said, once again, congrats on another beautiful piece. So good to have you back,
I just had a huge butternut tree come down across my laneway. I have yet to cut it up into bowl blanks, but I might have to try some platters too. That's gorgeous!
I missed the first video on the butternut but will check it shortly. I was lucky enough to have a local guy ( No Berwick / Lebanon ) give me a piece nearly identical to that. I was there picking up some maple as well as other things he thought were junk. Not to a turner ! Anyway that was late fall and said he had a bunch of butternut suddenly coming out of Kennebunk and Kennebunkport late this past summer. Big old trees I guess. Plate looks great can’t wait to try it myself !
Wood is full of surprises which makes wood turning so interesting. You think you can see the shape from the outside but the wood usually has the last word. Nice work 👌
Looks good--I do agree with you. That is pretty wood. I do appreciate the way you explain what’s going on as you go. I am a newbie I have not had my lathe six months yet. But I am enjoying learning how to be a lot. Better soon.
Beautiful work Peggy 👏! The defects gave this piece some really nice character in my opinion. Can't wait until I'm able to turn something that size. Hopefully I'll get a lathe upgrade this year some time. Take care and GOD BLESS 🙏!
I wish I could get Butternut here in GA. What a beautiful platter Peggy. I usually turn Pecan as it is abundant here. It never fails to reveal its beauty.
Something I’ve done to make sure the chuck jaws fit when I reverse mount the piece is to mark the tool rest with a marker showing the center and the location of both sides of the jaws fully expanded and completely closed. This way, I have a quick way to measure the mortise or tenon to see if it fits the chuck.
Glad to see you again, hope you are healing well. Wishing you a Happy New year, and lots of good health. Butternut grain is outstanding, body paint is as well.
The butternut wood looks great. If you get a chance to turn some Pecan wood , do it. that wood is beautiful and so is Eucalyptus , which you find some times down there in your Florida store
You always do some amazing work you take your time you do just some fantastic woodwork keep up the good work still praying for you and that was beautiful
When I come to your place for Thanksgiving dinner, that's my plate. Don't worry, I cook. And a beautiful plate it is. Butternut has such a mellow quality about it. This is the first of your videos that I've come across. Could I suggest you give us a little more explanation of your process. Everyone does things a bit differently and if we don't know just what you're doing, we can't copy it. And that, they say (you know they, them, the others) is the sincerest form of flattery. Looking forward to your next video with best wishes from frigid NH.
Gorgeous piece, Peggy! Every time I see someone working butternut and getting beautiful results, it makes me want to cut down the butternut tree in my back yard. Nowhere near the size of the tree that blank came from, but it might have some decent bowls in it. (I'm about 1.5 hours drive north of you, by the way)
That came out great Peggy, with a few small challenges, but that's what makes it fun. If you wanted a more natural colour for the fill material, you could give Coffee Grounds a try, with clear CA, I've done that on a few pieces as it matched more closely to the colour of the timber, and it makes it hard to even pick where it was used. Thanks for sharing.
Love the butternut wood. Turned out to be a great success. How well does the Ack's products wear over time? Lots of the easy and quick finishes do not last especially with washing after use. I make bowls to use and not put on a shelf for decoration. Thank you for your input. looking forward to your next project.
Great platter Peggy. You did a great job with it. I’m curious about that one screw hole. Why didn’t you just turn it away? Too thin? Regardless, the platter is beautiful. I agree with you that butternut is beautiful wood. Had a good bit in the early days, but haven’t seen it available in a long time. Great stuff.
That be a pretty pretty plate - I do like butternut. I got a bunch of rough slabbed butternut years ago from a fellow in WVa that I used to make our dining room table ... It isn't native to my area either - don't think that info is of any help to you just my early morning pratter. Glad to be seeing your demos again!!
Very nice Peggy. I love how thin it is on the edges and the color is beautiful. What type of Total Boat resin are you using? Looking forward to your next project. Happy New Year!
Beautiful plate (platter?). The butternut is a nice change, but I'm a fan of the Maine maple you turn, it's got gorgeous grain. Can the bark be saved in those inclusions by flooding it with CA? Clearly, the epoxy went all the way through to the top of the bowl.
Hi, I just wanted to add to one comment. I love the work you do here but this is more of a Cesery for your shop. You don’t have to necessarily have to buy a big vacuum, but you can use a shop vac that you can pick up at Lowe’s or Home Depot And use it to vacuum when you sand use it to vacuum the dust it’ll help keep a lot of your shop clean and also if you can get a separator that goes over 5 gallon trash can you get those at the woodworking store like Rockler and help keep a lot of the stuff out of the vacuum itself just my one little insight. Appreciate everything you do looks wonderful like a lot of work.
I wonder if that Acks paste would work well on a piece that isn’t turned…. I mean to say a flat piece of wood like a shelf or tabletop or desktop…..? Thank you. That plate is beautiful!
Awesome job. Really like your videos . Where do you source your lumber from? Seams as if the figure fairy landed somewhere near them all. Thank you for sharing
As soon as I get my home built, And I by a Lathe..LOL. I want to make a large lazy susan for my dining table. You Inspired that Idea from this video. Thank You!!!
That is awesome!
Very nice, large plate! I love the imperfection in the middle, it’s truly simple and elegant. Great job! Bravo!
Thanks so much! 😊

Thank you! Happy New Year to you!
Nice platter Peggy! The black resin & CA were the right colors for fixing the inclusion and cracks. Cheers,
Stuart

The butternut platter turned out great! Excellent job! I always appreciate your commentary. Thank you. I just lost a cousin to dementia issues, thank you for all you fo for that cause. Much appreciated.
I'm so sorry for your loss. My condolences.
Beautiful platter Peggy! Love the grain and the overall look. As someone new to turning, I was very impressed watching you deal with a blank that size! On a more personal note, I would like to thank you for all you do for those suffering with Dementia. My wife has FTD so it is a cause dear to my heart! Great having you back, love your work 🙏🏼🤠
Thanks, Randy. It's a tough diagnosis, hard on the person and family and friends. There is nothing easy about it. Thinking of you and your wife.
Easy to see why you talked about the glow of the wood. Even before the Acks, it really did have that glow. The grain is astounding. As others have said, once again, congrats on another beautiful piece. So good to have you back,
Thanks 👍

Cool, have fun turning!
Peg, you did a great job with the Maple, it's hard stuff, but looks good when finished, I also love Acks..
.
Thank you!
Great work Peggy 👏 I'm going to do more platters this year I hope you have a wonderful 2023
Thank you! You too!

That turned out beautiful as usual Peggy! 👍🏻 That place in the middle gives it a little character! Thank you for sharing! ✌️
Yes, it does. Thanks!
Elegant! And you are right, the Ack’s finish is just right. 👍
Thank you! 😊
Модам, вы меня просто удивляете, редко можно увидеть женщину за токарным станком по дереву, здоровья вам и успехов в вашем творчестве!!!!!
Thank you for watching!
Good morning miss p that's a big piece there looks nice good job

Wood is full of surprises which makes wood turning so interesting. You think you can see the shape from the outside but the wood usually has the last word. Nice work 👌
Great point!
Excellent job as always Peggy that Really came out Beautiful.
Thanks so much 😊
Very nice Peggy
Thank you! Cheers!
Its 0.10 am here in Belgium, but i watch quickly the video anyway.
Thanks for watching.
The Butternut is beautiful. I believe that is more platter size rather than plate. You always do such great work. Thanks for sharing your videos.
Thanks so much 😊
Nice work on that platter. Love the shape, thinness, wood choice and grain.
Thanks 👍
Absolutely gorgeous piece! Acks is an amazing product. I got my hands on some for a few pieces I made for my best friend and his wife.
Right on!
What a thing of beauty. I have been given about 20 pieces of butternut this past summer. I cannot wait to start into the pile.
Nice!!! Happy turning!
As always peggy great job ...love the size and shape of platter.

Oh. Bummer.
Gorgeous, absolutely awesome job Peggy.
Thank you! Cheers!
I recently turned 2 Butternut bowls and they did turn out nice but I was surprised at how hard this wood was. Nice video
Thank you!
Looks good--I do agree with you. That is pretty wood. I do appreciate the way you explain what’s going on as you go. I am a newbie I have not had my lathe six months yet. But I am enjoying learning how to be a lot. Better soon.

I wish I could get Butternut here in GA. What a beautiful platter Peggy. I usually turn Pecan as it is abundant here. It never fails to reveal its beauty.
Thanks, I've heard Pecan is beautiful too.
Hopefully one day I'll be half as good as you are. Great job on the piece 👌
Thank you!

Nice. Well, howdy neighbor! I didn't know there was any butternut growing in Maine. Learn something new everyday!
Well done, it’s beautiful!
Thank you! 😊
looks great
Thanks!!
Nice job it looks really nice keep up the good work
Thanks, will do!
Very BEAUTIFUL, I've never seen butternut wood before, what area of the country does it come from.
What is wonderful
Thanks for watching!
Great looking plate!
Thank you 😋
It turned out beautiful in spite of the bark inclusion Peggy. Unfortunately butternut does grow in my area either. Ottawa Canada.
Thanks for sharing!

The Ack's lasts over time. And when you do need to reapply, it just takes a tiny bit.
