Very good work great platter. Butternut wood is not my favorite but you make it very desirable. My favorite American wood is walnut There are many beautiful woods but my favorite is walnut. Just me and my likes. Keep up the great wood turning and smile more.
Don't blame you for being a little cautious about the first piece, you were turning Butternut for the first time. The second piece turned out to be an extremely nice platter & I am sure the next one will be too when you get it back on the lathe. Stay safe, Don from South Aust.
Everytime I tune into your channel, I learn something new and Interesting as you explain what's at hand. I'm in the process of setting up my lathe and getting in to it. Wife was really sick with cancer and is doing better now. The blanks have been sitting, wired, strapped and ready. Great presentation as always. Thank You, Peggy. Your work is outstanding!!! 🧐🌲👍
Peggy, good decision on the original piece. Best to stabalise it before continuing. I have to say, the finished piece is one of the most elegant and beautiful pieces I've seen you turn.
Peggy, another great video. I really enjoy listening to you explain what you are doing. I liked the beginning of the video with you in front of the camera. A big howdy from Texas.
Peggy apologies once again but I absolutely love this and I am so glad I got to watch it, as for the first now may be you said what you had planed to do with it but it would be a great opportunity to put some kind of decorative inlay 👍👍👍
That’s a love piece of wood and great turning skill - I’ve made a few items that size but find them really hard to sell - the usual reaction is “very nice but I’ve no room for something that big” - maybe we need bigger houses in UK.
Beautiful platter. I have never seen a butter nut tree in my area big enough to get a slab like that. Squirrels sure like hiding those nuts in the funniest places though.
Good job. I like the surface design. I made a cookie platter about the same size out of honey locust. The wood looks very similar. Mines a little darker. I put a lip at the edge a quarter inch by a quarter inch. Keep turning and keep safe.

Thanks, Laura! 😎
Beautiful job; I am jealous.
Thank you!
Laguna makes an attachment to mount on the tail stock end of your lathe to allow turning larger items. Cheaper than a new lathe
Good call!
Great looking project, you can get the biggest turkey on the farm on that platter.. Hope all is well with you, Blessings..
Ha! Right. Thanks for watching 😊
Well done!
Thanks!
Beautiful plate/platter, came out great! :)

Nice lines, beautiful grain! I love butternut - some in SW Virginia also call it White Walnut.
Cool! I bet the “white walnut” down there is pretty too.
