After finding myself with some free time I clicked, bud and won a packed storage unit! Turns out it was sealed for over 20 years! Let’s see what’s inside on todays episode.
The items from this video are up for sale here! Check it out!

I hope you kept the pool balls for the pool table because you said you were going to throw that box away. V__V
For everyone asking if he kept things or not, you can click the auction link & browse the sale to check and/or see how much things sold for- items feat. on this video AND various items from previous vids & that were in the store. You just have to make an acct on the auction site.
FYI- there’s no need to enter personal info/payment methods just to browse… only if you plan to bid on things in future, & U can always add that info later if you change ur mind.
It’s pretty interesting to see how much things went for!
Why so many adverts ☹️
This is a jackpot flip deal !!!
😮 did you throw that white round globe light fixture out !?! 😱
I work at a storage facility, and it is surprising how often a customer passes away and their family does not know they have a storage unit!! It eventually gets auctioned off, and a lot of family heirlooms get lost. Crazy to think about!
My ex has 6 storage units. I tell the kids that will all be theirs to sort through some day.
Cannot take a chance on a show thing. Man buy a GoPro.
Sad, if they tryed little harder with the paperwork, they could give the family a call or something.
Hah. I just bought the same version of packman for g- son for a roadtrip. Very cool.
It’s even harder to believe that it wouldn’t have been auctioned off before 22 years has passed…
Let's just enjoy the video folks, instead of whining about what he is and isn't doing. Thank for the fun, enjoyed it much! 🌿💙
You need a trailer for your truck: systematically dig through from the front, put the trash in the trailer and the good stuff in the truck. Once full, go and unload - then come back for the next load!
hello Marc how are you doing today.
A auto dump One too. And a large shed to take everything and sort .
...and how about a 2 handed approach? One arm isn't cutting it!
A lot of the suggestions below are valid. I've been working for a major storage company for 9 years . A lot of people can't let go of items that belonged to someone who died . Theyh also can't bring themselves to go through it , sort it cuz it's too painful. So, they end up paying thousands of dollars only for me to sell it when sojmething happens with their finances , they get sick, or die. During Covid I had a number of older units that were paid for years by older tenants go to auction cuz they fell off the map. I'm pretty sure a lot of them died and the families didn't know the units were there. You also get people hiding units from their spouses cuz the spouse tells themn to "get rid of their junk" , and they tell them they did but put it in the storage unit instead and pay cash every month. And unfortunately, hoarders are a big part of our business.
I always feel a little sad about lockers, wondering if the person died and it was forgotten. In this case, I would imagine the previous owner would be thrilled that Alex is the one who bought it. You will not find anyone more enthusiastic or grateful about what the owner had loved enough to store away.
Or what if someone lost their family and threw all the familie's stuff in a locker unable to deal with it.
I lost one years ago because I was homeless and couldn't pay for it. Lost what little I had left from my childhood, like my favorite doll I had since I was five, and what little my kids had after we lost our home (including my son's entire collection of Transformers). (Long story short, landlord sold the house, and I didn't have enough time or money to pay a deposit on a new place, so I put everything in storage and moved into a hotel, but the hotel was so exoensive it took everything I could make and I couldn't pay for the storage unit and still feed my kids and keep a roof over their heads). It was devastating at the time. I've since come to terms with it, but I still get emotional about it sometimes. All I can do now is learn from last mistakes and never let it happen again.
@@tarabooartarmy3654 I understand your loss, and the needs you had and might still have to provide for your family. 💙
And quite careless of contents. Like the comment about " glad he'd not stood on the antique windows!" Geez, when I had stuff in storage and had to look for things, I checked the boxes before attempting to stand on them! People downsize when they lose a spouse, and may not even remember they have a storage unit with items THEY treasure. Auto payments can take care of the bill, but then they die. Too many families don't give a damn. "Throw that old crap out!" I see it in families clearing out houses. (We set things on the curb and whoever wants it, takes it.) I've gotten beautiful antiques that way. But not all "soft" items should be dumped. I have a quilt my grandmother made that is valued at $3000.00. He'd dump it!
This thing was a mess and obviously was a hoarders unit. Don't really think there was any sentiment or thought put into this mess. I'm sure that ONE HAND will probably destroy what little is of use before the video ends so I'm not even gonna watch the rest.
5:38 It's nice hearing you mention how storage auctions are usually busts. Between the cable tv and youtubers, someone would assume rural storage units and yard sales are full of valuables ready for the taking. Thanks for surfacing your exceptional finds and saving us from the grind, it's fun content.
I would add the same warning to all the retail-arbitrage videos of youtubers buying return pallets full of stuff and talking so excited while you know they will never break even with the sales (just the youtube video). People are really naive.
Sorting: what you need for a unit of loose items like that is a stack of plastic lidded totes. As you find fragile items, like the yellow lamp, take the time to put it in a tote, even if It gets stacked outside temporarily, the lid keeps the product dry. Wrap it with some clothing that might clean up OK, like the bomber jacket.
We’d line up totes and put media in one, tools in another, clothing (like the concert T) in a third, etc, right down a line. Shift those those fragile collectible toys right into totes, so they won’t be busted up in transport. Use the boxes and trash bags they were in for trash.
One time saving tip is that If you handle it, put it in a container (save, trash, donate) don’t just re-stack it, that’s how your profit gets broken..
We use Shoebox size bins for coins, hot wheels, loose jewelry and the smalls, like the bottle openers, so that later we can work on them 1 small group at a time.
Using a mix of large, regular and small bins helps with the initial sort, transport and storage space needed back at the warehouse, since they stack without damaging the contents, the way open top boxes do, with stuff sticking out the top. As much as possible, fill the totes so the lids can go on.
If you start doing these routinely, create a routine, so it’s easier and faster, because sometimes you will want to buy more then 1 unit at the same sale, since one renter can have multiple units and you need to buy them all, so that matching pieces and parts will likely be there. Nothing worse then buying a unit were you can see the side of an antique $2000 dollar dresser and finding out the drawers were in the other unit, someone else got.
Usually if multiple lockers were rented by 1 person, the facility will say so. If you get outbid on some, leave your contact info with the office or tape it to the other unit’s door suggesting the other bidder call you, so you can trade off or be on the lookout to buy/sell/trade with one another. It’s something nubies don’t think about.
In your case, size the majority of the totes to fit under your closed truck tonneau cover, with the lids on. That way you can transport in the rain, when you need to, with the truck bed covered. I predominantly use the Rubbermaid units, like the ones you washed. The lids are easy to spot and they stack well. I reuse the random mismatched totes and those with no lids, for sending item groups to auction, since the lids have to come off for auction preview anyway.
Thank God for your comment! The chaos of "sorting" was maddening to watch. 😂
@@Lanfeartyve I agree. Some of it has to do with making videos and wanting to show us what is there quickly, but watching people "sort" by just shifting items around and stacking them back on other items is frustrating.
@@brianhenry2385cant the camera be stood somewhere 2 hands better than 1...the way puzzles and boxs were picked up and moved my heart in my mouth bits can be broke and lost..no method.!..
This was such a fun video. Especially with you showing your inner child with each toy you found. Always keep that part of you alive. 😄
Wear a respirator. I had a friend who picked through old barns and storage lockers end up in the hospital with a very bad lung infection, diagnosed with particulates from mouse droppings. He was in there for more than two weeks. Nasty stuff.
I think that "Shera" figure is actually a McFarlsne Toys "Angela" figure. The purple ribbons on the staff as well as her head dress - helps identify.
BTW - the TMNT Van - very good find!
Alex, if this unit hooks you on some more storage auctions, I suggest you carry a few dust masks and a couple of the round security locks in your truck. That level of dust isn’t healthy, as you disturb it and often such units have rodent droppings too. Some facilities now use tumbler locks rather then padlock hasps, but in either case, once the office lets you in, unit security becomes your concern and for larger units you don’t want to leave it overnight without a lock.
Gloves and an overall are a good idea as well.🖤🇨🇦
You know the level of Roundup in the the land, air, and water would take 100 years for earth to naturally shed the poison off. I did mold remediation in commercial buildings. Fine dust like this with an open door will be fine so long as a man does not trim away inner nose hair and having facial hair is a good idea. The mask won't help with dust that fine. Rodent droppings when inside if you run into a bunch then run a fan for a bit. Don't fear things in life, have a positive attitude and most of all, wash you hands or wear gloves and don't touch your face if clean shaven or even worse cut out your nose hair. Those are natural defenses against dust and all other airborne things. If you go into things with fear or the idea of getting sick, you will bring it on you. When working in 45 min shifts with a respirator and full suit, some black mold would get thru and my nose hair was the last line of defense and never let me down. The waves coming off of all our smart phones are very dangerous and we all ignore that fact. Best of luck in this unprecedented times. I love anything old, even books missing the covers. I used to buy lockers and even had a good time when breaking even or losing a few bucks.
@@tamarrajames3590 we’ve all suggested it in the past. He got a respirator for house clearances I think. We’ve all tried to tell him though lol. Alex is Alex hehe.
I would go full on Hazmat for that unit. Scary. Glad he's so excited though. 😂
@@avalondreaming1433 I agree with you completely.
Wow, what a blast from the past. I was born in ‘78 so all of those toys are familiar to me having been a kid in the 80’s. Love your channel!
In the junk drawer, the spring loaded embroidery hoop can go for up to $30. You can’t buy them anymore and I think they hold fabric very well.
I love your videos because you are positive, upbeat and happy. I want to comment on what you said about how funny it would be to donate some things, buy the locker, only to find that you just bought your own donated items. My Family came so close to doing just that. We donated a large dining room table and 6 chairs to The Salvation Army. Then we decided that since they sell tables of all sizes, we would check to see if they had a smaller set. As we walked around, we spotted a table we were dramatically drawn to. From across the room, it looked very small. In looking at it and walking around it about 10 times, I said, no wonder we were drawn to it....its our table. They had just put it on the floor without the chairs. We had it in our dining room for close to 30 years. We did get a smaller table but I guess as we said goodbye to the table, it wanted to say goodbye to us. Maybe furniture does take on a new or 2nd life at times!😅
Please do more of these storage unit videos...they are almost as good as the hoarders house! Almost.
Hi. Been following your blog for a few years. I still enjoy them as much as ever. Love the family as much as the goodies.
Blessings to you all.
That drafting table would be perfect for Stephen's new room. There is a large working surface on it and plenty of drawers for all of his art supplies. That was a fun storage unit filled with all of your favorite toys from the past. Thanks for sharing!
If it cleans up well it'd look good in his art videos.
OMG the dust in there was so bad I found myself literally holding my breath when it all stirred up. I'm so allergic to dust that I feel like I should use my inhaler LOL
I felt like I got dust in my eyes. And I started to wish he had gloves on. 😅
I would be sick for a week if I had to go through that stuff.
Hey Alex! Greetings from Italy! I have only discovered your channel recently but I am enjoying it so much! It actually kept me company while I was caring for my 18 and a half years old cat Puccio, during the last days of his life… it was nice to have something cheerful to go to ! I share your passion for antiques, something I inherited from my mother. Hugs to you and to all your beautiful family!
It’s always sad to lose a pet and you had your cat for 18 yrs. Best wishes to you and hopefully all the happy memories will some day replace the sadness. ♥️
It's so nice to see the kid in you come out when you spot the toys in this unit!
i just love that even when the intro gets updated re. the images, the "i'm home honey" is still there 💕💕💕
I never skip the intro as I love hearing Hans at the end
Yes I love that part as well.
This looks like a cross between my brother's and my son's stuff. So sad to see it left behind, but I'm glad you found it all.
Hi, your excitement is so contagious that I felt it all the way here in NJ. A lot of work but fun. I am glad you closed the shop and have more time to do what you love to do. 😊

Looks like you found Justin Trudeau's toy stash
I get that you don't want to haul off stuff back home that you're just going to turn around and take to the dump in the end but with a deadline to clear out the entire locker, you'd do well to refrain from searching through every single box and bag and sorting out good from trash and just take everything home and sort it out on your own time.
No better person to have bought that locker than you Alex. Great finds. Hope your neck is ok after lifting all that stuff. I enjoyed this video, thank you.
Ive watched this twice now and marvel at you digging thru thr fragile cardboard boxes for puzzles n games. Wish you would do unboxing away from the storage units!!
So exciting!! This lot was meant to be yours Alex. I was getting stressed because you went through the boxes so fast, there might have been a treasure between pages or in between things. Also if you ever find a stuffed chair or couch always feel around in the sides of them. When I was young we traveled a lot with my parents and my brother and I would stick our hands in the sides of the couches in the hotels lobby. We collected enough coins to buy each of us a pure silver ornate pocket knife. Loved this video, I felt I was right there with you looking through all the goodies! 🥰🥰🥰
I itch so much to do this. Going thru stuff, organizing them, keeping/giving/selling what's good, I hope I can one day.
AHHH don't step on the table!!! That's potentially a Vivai del Sud wicker table. Could be 100x what you paid for in the unit!
I just looked it up and found the exact table for 9,000 and something!!! the wavy leg table from Vivai Del Sud is REALLY rare!!! I hope it didnt go to the dump!!
I really like watching your videos, it’s refreshing to hear and see humans who are kind, positive such as you folks! ❤
Thank you so much!
Oh my! So exciting! What treasures are we going to find! On with the show. That was such fun, wonderful toys and collectibles found. Thank you! Much love from the uk 🇬🇧 x
I think the pool table balls were in a box of old magazines at the beginning of the video. Great toys. I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s. Such nostalgia. Love it.
As a former storage mgr, a lot of units like that go because the owner goes to a nursing home, passes away, or is ill. They don’t just give it up. I’ve seen units that came up for sale that were filled with old tires, worn and dirty clothes, completely empty, with old freezers full of meat, you name it. You got a rare one. Often you will find a lot of tools and fishing gear of various ages. We had one guy get in using a family member’s passcode… as if cameras and passcode records don’t exist. He cut the lock and inventory tag (you do a rough inventory in the US- ie number of visible boxes, bags, or items you can see. You never touch the items if you’re doing your job the legal way.) and just took his stuff, turned the lock around and taped the inventory tag. I found it at lock check the next day. Needless to say, his family member got evicted immediately as they were on camera too.
That red phone looking toy is a Merlin, I haven't seen one of those in ages. In fact, I had most of those same toys as a kid, plus a lot more of the little girl marketed varity. Pretty cool that the mini pool table had the balls in one of those boxes as well.
Locker Nuts paid $1 for a storage unit in California that was packed with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of expensive and collectible model trains and models. He had several videos about it. Then revealed he bought a SECOND unit owned by the same person. Very lucrative find for him!
Literally made him over $100K so far.
@@welshlyn9097 Why u dont like him?
Alex, you are too funny. You get so excited especially when you find toys. Tells us you are very young at heart. Bet you Melissa will be excited, too. I'm 73 and have a storage unit that I've been paying a monthly fee, for over a year. I'm going to look into buying a small storage shed. Having it on our land. Start gifting things away. There are no antiques or vintage items. Thank you for the inspiration. Blessings. Rosie B. , Rio Grande Valley Texas USA.
Started watching the Potter series and have now subscribed. I only follow a few you tubers but it's the ones that are are very kind and treat people with love and respect. Alex you are one of these people and I look forward to more of your adventures x
You have an incredible amount of patience going through everything, cleaning and sorting. Wow!
This brought back so many memories. When you were pulling out some of those toys I was like, I had that! Great video as always Alex!!
For sure. We all get old
Not even ten minutes into this video and I'm pretty confident I could tell you the story behind this unit. The person who rented this unit out was using it to store items he (and it is going to be a guy) would come across when cleaning out vacated rental units. When people are in a rush to leave or have limited moving resources, toys and other odd ball/bulky items is exactly what they leave behind. You probably are looking at 10 years worth of cleaned out rental units.
Now why did it get to this condition? Probably because the guy simply lost interest in going through it. It was just easier to spend the thousand dollars on the unit a year than to go through it. Further, this unit was let go probably because the renter has passed. Likely moved to a care facility and the mail isn't getting forwarded so the family simply wasn't aware of this storage unit and the bill payment finally lapsed.
Seriously, this is an off the books unit. The guy had an eye on things that might be worth keeping and he simply didn't have the means or resources to keep the items up. So they went to storage unit hell.
Back in my military career there were times when I would have to clean out on base housing units. The single guys, they carrying what they can in a few duffle bags and leaving the rest. Because they wouldn't be allocated moving expenses. I was actually shocked by what some of these guys discarded and left behind. To this day I still use a clothes iron that I picked up in one of these unit cleanings. In my shed somewhere is a $350 film camera left behind. And I'm sure if I were to dig around my shed I'd probably find a few other nick knacks I picked up post vacated unit.
Yeah, my DAUGHTER had those things!
Re the yellow and green light fixture. In 1972, my then boyfriend (I was 13) gave me a "mushroom lamp" for my birthday. It was yellow! So there is a bit of a time reference there for you!
Love watching you find neat stuff!
That woven two pieces of art is known as Namda from Kashmir (Cashmere), the place I come from, it's made of sheep wool, design using crochet, usually used in winter. Quite in vogue in my region and a dying art in Kashmir (Cashmere). Get it dry cleaned and you can used it in your living room probably in front of the fireplace 😉
I was doing estate sales, I got the same wool art rug, cloth, print!!❤️ I wish I knew more about it
I love the excitement! This storage unit was made for you
I wanted to enjoy this video more, but the whole time I was worrying about all that dust and your allergies. Good score, hope you’re feeling well and you do great at the auction.
The red merlin game you pulled out right after the brass camp stove is worth some money, even if you don't find the battery cover... that thing was SO much fun!!
I had those replica baseball cards as a kid. They came with some kind of baseball card collector set along with some plastic pages and sleeves to put cards in.
Alex, there's a storage locker YT channel called Locker Nuts, Jack Chestnut. He carries a paintbrush with him to brush away the dust on items. It works well, and the items don't get any more damaged by getting wiped off.
Your show has just been discovered by me and it's great . Thank you for sharing. Where do you sell or auction stuff for purchase?
Alex, it is good to see you so excited again about great finds. 😄 Really nice to see you have space to spread out and sort the toys. You always put out fun, exciting videos. Thank you for sharing another adventure with us. 🌞🌞🌞
I don't have the patience to see value in dismantled dusty/dirty items from the past. I would have junked it all. Glad you're you.
Just in case you don't know about "junk journaling" (making journals and paper crafting with "junk" paper) --it's a huge and ever-growing universe. You'll find buyers (Etsy/eBay) for old things like those old magazines and catalogs--and almost ANY old paperwork/ephemera that people tend to keep forever and for no good reason (lol): ledgers, log books, hand-written receipts, ticket stubs, old photographs, cookbooks, hand-written letters, envelopes, stamps (old is great--not necessarily collectable) old text books (with graphs, formulas, etc. are fun), foreign-language dictionaries--basically any old papers, tags, tickets--oh yeah--and broken jewelry--book bling don't ya know!!
The books and catalogs that aren't fit for collectors are perfect for us bc we tear them up anyway--
You can sell them in bulk to people who will break them up and sell junk journal supply packets or break them down yourself and sell bundles....
One or two more ways to recoup your investment 💰💶💵💸 🤓😎
22:36 - that's a Merlin, or at least what we called it. I played that for hours in the mid-80's.
31:52 - Holy Hobby puzzle!!
Thanks for the memories!
Happy New Year!
Not sure if you figured it out, but in the He-man box, the silver disk was a turntable platter and the green thing I'm 99% sure was a christmas tree stand. I could be wrong but always fun to watch.
I was going to refer to the metal disk as a turn table or platter too. Had a very similar one mid 70's. Nice explore no?
The green thing is a Christmas tree stand.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Alexander so excited over a find before! The joy is just rolling off of him in waves!
I think of everything I saw my favorite finds were the three light fixtures! That Sputnik style one! The caged glass you didn’t mention and the pop art! Beautiful pieces
You need a leaf blower. Climb as far back as you can w/a leaf blower then start blowing all that dirt out. We used it to clean a huge beach house after a big fundraiser. (Tons of sand in the house.) This locker is exciting!
This was the the first Canadian storage buy I have ever seen, loved it. Please do more, the Avon bottles and lamps bought me back. Have you ever thought of having your own auction?
Avon bottles are collectable, some bringing $100 - $1000 of bucks.
That little wavy-edged table is really cool, I could see that as a statement piece in a living room when it's cleaned up.
This was a great time just your enthusiasm and excitement made it so much fun to watch and I’m glad you are going to make such a nice profit because you deserve it. And I will say you are not only fast but you are the most organized individual I’ve ever seen move so quickly⭐️👍🏻👍🏻
Nice haul, it is easy to have things in a storage unit and be out of sight out of mind and the payments just go out of the bank automatically. I’ve been there. Great you have sorted out the good stuff and it will have another life. Andy UK
I think with resession going to be a lot of these I'd keep a look out for a few more 🙂 Lots of dust not good for your allergies ! Alexander you need your mask & a place to sort /clean .Maybe the small garage behind Curiosity Inc / ice-cream shop would be good back drop to your video too. Some how don't think Melissa would want back at the house . 🙂 Some great finds in there .
I like the tapestries/rugs. You are the perfect person to have won this storage locker! So many neat toys!
I’m loving how excited you are here! A literal “kid in a candy store” ! Fantastic finds 😀
This was so fun to watch! It seems like you are less stressed. You have more time to go through things and have fun with it. Happy for you!
Wow Alex, we knew you had so much of a kid in you but, again...wow! The toys, the comics, and so on. Great find, great deal! Always much happiness and success to the Archbold family.
I can’t believe the variety of collectibles in this storage unit!!! 💜
Skill, expert knowledge, and an intimately placed horseshoe working overtime! Way to go, Alexander
I thought the same about the horseshoe but you worded it nicely lol.
I’m so happy it was filled with toys… it must have been so exciting for you… it amazes me you took a chance on it and you really scored!
SCORE that was an awesome storage unit for you to find. I probably would have recycled the crib and made it into a beautiful bench. 😃
Saw a few favs from my childhood that I had totally forgotten. Those nostalgia feelings are strong!
Wow, what a great puzzle haul! I just sent you an email because I might be interested in buying some of them. It’s crazy that so many beautiful puzzles and toys were just sitting there untouched for so many years!
I’d love to see you do some of those vintage puzzles @karenpuzzles!
He'll probably all put it through auction, as many people are interested, no doubt :)
I saw this and immediately thought of you!!
Karen!
I’d love to see you do some! An awesome
UA-cam creator collaboration ❤️
OMG! I had a blue metal child's sewing machine just like the one in the first box you filmed! OMG!!! Memories.
I can seriously say that my son (Alex’s age) owned all of those toys. As he started growing out of playing with them I started selling at garage sales. I recall selling a huge box of only action figures. We never saved any. Our son’s Star Wars collection was much larger. I think about all the $$ spent 🤦🏻♀️.
I once saved a small amount of Starwars Lego figures from my bin of Lego figures for my friend who collected Starwars stuff. He was happy to get them and one of them was worth $35 alone on eBay. I spent 2 days with barely any sleep trying to save them before the bin was given to my cousin. It was worth it though I missed the opportunity to put the original blue spaceman back together that my older brother got as a kid. The spaceman looked like the one from the Lego Movie but wasn't. It was the original that character was based off of.
My cousin is happy with it and loves everything in it. There were even 3 Call Of Duty Lego sets in there but in pieces so that was something they liked.
same here
Well, try to think of all the free space you acquired by getting rid of the toys.
Alex, your exitement is rubbing off on me! Cant wait to see everything you unearth. Enjoy. I hear the child coming out fullsteam. I love watching your videos. Good treasure hunting!!!!😊😊😊😊
Man that was a great find and fun watching you go through it all. With all that dust all over and your allergies, I hope you took some precaution while going through your treasures!. Good luck and hope you do well with the sale Alex!
What cool finds! Right up your alley. Thanks for taking us along for the adventure. (I was sympathy sneezing.)
That Optimus Prime though! I wanted that toy so bad when I was six. I love how you follow your intuition, Alex. It guides you right to where you need to be. I'm in awe of your connection, so cool!
It was so fun to listen to the excitement in your voice for finding all the toys.
What a wonderful find! What fun being a kid again with loads of exciting toy discoveries! I would have loved that white painted wood carved shabby cabinet next to white wire storage rack. I could see lots of potential with that piece, especially here in CA. When you sneezed 🤧, it spooked my dog and she left the room! 😆
I love to see you get so excited. You said I going to loose sleep if I don't look at it all. Love it.
Wow, this storage locker looks like it was specifically made for you! Couldn't have been more perfect!✅️
Are you saying he’s filthy and gross?
It's such a weird feeling going through someone's stuff. It's a life story untold.
Alex you should have been masked the whole time in that unit. Anyway great find that was right up your ally .
Seeing some of those toys brought back long forgotten childhood memories. Love it 💜
I lost count of Alex saying “Oh, Look!!” 😁. How amazing it is that Alex would bid on a storage unit, sight unseen, and it be full of toys!!
People are dying everyday their items are forgotten that’s why we love vintage things it helps us remember times gone by. Love the video. I guess in Canada there’s less demand for old stereo equipment that’s nothing compared to all the other treasures though❤️
32:54 Dual 8-track units are fairly uncommon. Even though its a lower end unit, hopefully it didn't end up in the dump. That metal disc at 19:07 could've been part of the turntable platter for that or another stereo.
Even that turntable could be worth putting in an auction. Out here in Ontario, I've been seeing relatively basic to low quality ones still fetching up to $60. Vinyl's resurgence doesn't seem to be slowing down, so even the "meh" brands are sellable for a decent price in a lot of circumstances.
I can actually feel your excitement! I would take as much of the boxes of toys home to look through at home. Great buy!! Score!!
You have a great eye for spotting unexpected treasures, Alexander.
I don't believe all of your allergies are due to tree pollen. Decades of dust and dirt are a major factor. You do quite well with mostly one-handed moving.
Nice peek at the Mustang. Gotta see more Please sir. Best wishes to you and yours.
hi how are you doing today
Loving the video. Vintage cribs and may not work for babies but the doll collectors love them.
Buying storage units was part of my business model for about 15 years, Pre-COVID. It is an interesting thing that often the larger units go for less, in the same auction. It’s because not everyone has the time, crew, vehicle or space to deal with that large a volume. I have seen exceptions, such as when the door rolls up (back when such auctions were done live) and everyone in the crown can see obvious value.
One thing to remember about on-line lien sales is that your phone can’t smell the contents for you, as you can at a live sale. This is both good and bad, but does have to be factored in. A Smoker or Pet Owner’s unit can drop drastically in value, once you arrive and open the door. Antique books, Sports collectibles and many items can be unsellable by the sell, without more effort. Watch for clues in the photos, such as Cat Trees, to help guide you on bid price. The good news is that in general, units sold on line, rather then in person can go for less and it’s hard to go too far wrong at the price u paid.
Couple other observations before I keep watching. If this is to be more common, in your future, consider getting an enclosed trailer to pull behind your truck. I recommend a Single Axle 10’, if you only plan to do mid-size local units or. Double-Axle 16’, to extend your range and cut travel time. This will allow to to avoid the higher cost of rental trucks and keep your fuel costs and travel time to a minimum. Most facilities what the units cleaned out in a day or two. They what to flip the units and re-rent them to a growing waiting list, since rent is how they make money.
A trailer will also allow you to work in the rain/snow and when you arrive home late, you don’t have to un-load that night to protect the goods I haul the value In the first load, then do trash in the last, for big units. For smaller units, load the good stuff in the front of the trailer and the trash either in the truck bed or at the back of the trailer, so you can hit the dump on the way home or after dropping the trailer off. Often fuel costs and disposal fees will exceed the units auction cost.
@@brianhenry2385 good advice here ✅
@@Markybug-Keira-Cody Thanks. Storage units can be fun and profitable, but they are also a lot of work and do come with the associated risk that you won't pay for your investment and time. When we were allowed to, we did a basic sort right there at the facility, to separate what to list first, sell locally, donate, scrap or trash. If you keep that in mind while sorting and loading your vehicle, it goes smoother.
Most larger units are outside and have roll up style doors. The distance to load is short, but they are hard to deal with in wet weather. Many mid-size and small units are inside, down a hallway. Longer to haul to the truck, but some facilities offer flat carts that you can stack boxes on to make it go quicker. If not, bring a dolly.
If the facility isn't too busy, we would take empty plastic bins and a few of those white PVC folding tables and set up a sorting area outside, in front of the next roll up door, or inside in an adjacent hallway for interior units. Some facilities don't like it because you can block access for renters, but many don't care. Having a dry place to separate and bin up items as you sort is always a plus!
The best units (and get bid up accordingly) are those where it's all boxed or in plastic totes and all you have to is load and haul. The worst, are those that have something interesting in the front, but once you peel back the first layer find piles and stacks of loose, dusty items that do not pack well.
I'm sure Alex will have this one loaded by this time, but the advice I sent has more to do with future planning then an single unit.
How interesting. I’m 56 and my kids are 34, 32 & 30 and I recognize both toys that I had growing up, and toys that my kids had!
As much as I love these videos I’d love to see the cleaning process of the stuff you keep. It’s an “oddly satisfying “ for me lol especially after seeing how dusty everything is
Idea: would you consider doing timelapse from cleaning that kind of storage?
Thanks for the video ❤
An amazing storage locker, so many incredible finds. I would love to go through the stuff you throw out. Really dusty but some cool quilts, etc I saw in the truck.
He'd throw out my grandmother's quilt too, which can be dry cleaned and is valued at $3000.00! But then again I keep it stored safely after it's last cleaning.
‼️What FUNNN this storage unit was‼️ Congratulations on a very good purchase❣️
WOW I would have loved to be there. I love doing things like this. Fantastic job Alexander
The man with the Midas touch! You let go of your prize hot wheels a while back and look and see these things you adore come walking back into your hand again. 💞. How cool.
There's a lot of us who love old jig saw puzzles!
