The passage in Matthew 18 applies to Christian brethren. The rules on marriage apply to everybody, including unbelievers. So you cannot use the passage in Matthew to justify divorce because unbelievers cannot go to Church elders to resolve their issues. Or is oyakhilome saying unbelievers don't have to follow God's rules on divorce and marriage? If they do, how will they apply the passage in Matthew to their marriage when they don't have a church to take the matter to? Just trying to figure it out... if the rules spoken of do not apply to an unbelieving couple, does the rule about divorcing only because of adultery apply? if it does, then it seems God has made it easier for His children (Christians) to get a divorce than unbelievers and yet God hates divorce...

Divorce is not the only thing that God hates, he hates sin, did you not read that his eyes are too holy to behold sin, yet he loves the sinner and continues to bless the one that comes to him. Everything marriage ends here. Weather you are divorced, married, remarried or whatever, that is your issue. It is who you are, how you lived and the lives you touched that matters. The relationship between two Christian brothers is not the same as the relationship between a husband and a wife. The later is a covenant relationship, that's not what Christ spoke about in Matthew 18. To relate the two scriptures in the same context can be very dangerous.
Did Jesus say that Matthew 18 was meant for covenant relationship? Would you risk your life with some spouse that beats you to death, or even someone that entered into occultism and satanism after forsaking Christ?
@ marriage my dear, is not a sister brother relationship, it is deeper than that. Yes, before marriage they were brother and sister, but after marriage, brother sister ceased. It's now husband (lord) and wife matter. The Bible says a man leaves…and cleaves. He left what? His family and became one with the wife by covenant. YOU CANNOT marry a divorcee. In 1 Corinthians 7 :15, not under bondage means he or she do not have to fullfill his or her marriage obligation to the departed unbeliever. Paul does not give any permission to the believing to remarry while their departed spouse is alive. IN 1 Corinthians 7 : 39 the beliving can only remarry after the death of their spouse. Getting married to someone else when your first spouse is still living is called adultry - Romans 7 : 3. Adulteress will not inherit the kingdom of God - 1 Corinthians 6 :9. Believer can only remarry after the death of their first spouse - 1 corinthians 7 :39. Marriage is a covenant until death do us apart in Gods sight. We cannot marry a divorcee while their first spouse is LIVING. Not everyone who says, ' LORD LORD" shall enter into heaven - Matthew 7 :21. Enter through the narrow gate. We can marry a divorcee AFTER their first spouse is DEAD - 1 Corinthians 7 :39.
