- Breaking News: The governor of Bali held a press conference over the weekend in which he proposed changes that will dramatically reshape the face of tourism on the island. Among the changes are outlawing tourists from renting motorbikes, which will force them to rely on apps like GoJek/Grab to get around.
In this video, I talk about what's been going on in Bali that has caused this reaction from the local government and what you should know if you're planning to visit.
Good video , as an expat lived and Worked in Indonesia for 34 years based in Manado i am shocked to see what is happening in Bali , any tourist not following the rules of Indonesia either fine, jail then deport and blacklist, need to act now before its too late , i see Phuket is suffering from the same bahaviour

Tourists, especially from the western hemisphere, should understand that Indonesia is an eastern country.
Even though Bali really depends a lot on tourism, on top of that there is still the dignity of the local population.
The Balinese would rather starve to death than have their dignity trampled on by tourists.
Tourists, especially from the western hemisphere, before coming to Indonesia let go of your notions of exceptionalism, because even though Indonesians are always friendly, don't look down on them.
You came to Indonesia, without first learning to speak Indonesian, and Indonesians are still willing to serve you in English.
You came to Indonesia, without learning Indonesian culture and customs, and Indonesians still want to serve you even though you give/receive goods/money using your left hand.
If your presence as a tourist in Indonesia is only a thorn in your side that destroys the existing order, maybe you should return to your country.

It is not ALL western people. Been twice to Bali for its spiritual atmosfeer and always respected rules and people. So glad the authorities will implement changes!. Wish they would do that in other countries ( it is beginning). By the way many people in Europe avoid holiday locations where the russians go since they usually have no manners and misbehave. I wander why they do not use all their brutality to change their government and be free in their own country, now it seems they break all barriers once they leave Russia.

@@trinir5156 That's right. It must be admitted that most western tourists don't really make a problem. It's just that a handful of them who don't carry themselves well make all western tourists suffer the bad effects.
You are talking now about every tourist country in the world. People from Europe, Russia and Latin America they speak English with locals because their respect them, but force people speak Indonesian that is too much my friend. Foreigners bring their money, locals get their money, everybody wins. They don’t do anything terrible. Close the border and nobody will come that’s it. Plenty countries who will accept these tourists, nothing unique.
This is a problem with the Russian tourists. Thailand is actually having the same problem in Phuket and Pattaya. They have actually set up a red card system in order to fast track getting rid of the problem individuals Russian and Ukrainian tourists are working illegally and taking jobs from local people on their tourist visas. The individuals are also causing problems and increasing crime. Some of them are affiliated with the mafia.

I am Indonesian, this news of foreigners having no manners in Bali is currently viral all over Indonesia. Immigration of Indonesia and the local government have now begun to take firm action against foreigners who cannot maintain their attitude properly. This isn't just about driving without wearing a helmet, many foreigners don't even wear clothes when driving, that's very impolite for us. No, locals never drive naked. Until there was other news that foreigners also had time to do a petition to boycott the sound of roosters crowing in the morning. That is the nature of Bali! I was so sad to see many locals being shouted and cursed at by some foreigners for closing roads because their worship events during Nyepi. You guys have to know that Nyepi is a big celebration in Bali's tradition... and all Hindus in Bali are delaying this for 2 years cause of pandemic. Locals nowadays are very happy to celebrate this Nyepi big day, but foreigners are always yelling and blaming why locals blocked the road for their sacred big day celebration. Bali (Indonesia) is very welcome to the arrival of foreign tourists, but that doesn't mean you can act as you please without caring about manners. If you are traveling to any area, please respect your host... and maintain an attitude based on their culture as well as local rules that apply. Tbh It's not only for Bali, to another city in Indonesia or many other countries, we always trying to uphold the local culture and rules of each local area.
As a Indonesian moslem, I can't find any island & peoples that is more tolerant than Bali and its culture. These couple of weeks, these bad behaviour is contantly on social media. Believe me, when Balinese make a red line, it means you are seriously crossing the lines
As Indonesian, i agree. They only ask us to respect by polite behavior, respect to older, respect to pecalang, don't use rude words.
Just to add some context, Bali is non-muslim majority but they're welcome to everyone including Muslims. However, when the red line is crossed, you can't expect them to be not angry

Ask balineese themselves for clarity but what reported in the media is that there are too many of these motorbike incidents that they can't bear it anymore. As an Indonesian I think making stricter rules against tourists is a very good thing. Moreover, foreigners in Indonesia are too free, where Indonesia itself is not a free country. This country has rules based on local culture, and as a foreign tourist, you should have an awareness of cultural differences when you are in someone else's country. Regarding motorized vehicles, there are lots of foreign tourists who are reckless on the road, not even obeying the rules. Indonesians are not very observant, but they know how to use a motorized vehicle more safely.
To be honest local people also don’t really follow the rules.maybe the laws need to be equal and show it to foreigners

The problem they behave badly when driving motorcycle. Like drunk while driving, doesnt wear helment, hitting local pedestrian, and disrespect police and locals. We open with the foreigner who respect the law.
In most Western countries, less than 10% of people have actual motorbike licenses (eg, in the US it's 8%). So, if Indonesia merely strictly enforced the existing license requirements for foreigners (home motorbike license plus international driving permit, as you correctly note), then perhaps 9 out of 10 foreign tourists here in Bali on rented motorbikes would immediately be illegal and taken off the road. I assume most tourists don't drive illegally in their own countries, so why should they be able to do so here?
did u know some tourist come to bali and do illegal rent motobike n teaching them to ride motorbike in a day?they do in illegal way,now they got deportation,i wish they got black list too!

It's obvious. Motorbike licence is a must for a safe ride on the road. In Indonesia I mean. If you want the safest way of transportation, use online taxi bike apps such as Gojek, Grab, etc. You don't need a licence, you just pay a fare to an online bike taxi driver to get from A to B. Simple as that.

Indonesia tourism accounts ONLY 3,5% of total GDP.. even WITHOUT much tourists contributions the whole nation can still survives supporting each other.. boost domestic consumption and very lesd relying on foreign markets or foreigners..

Foreigners should RESPECT all local laws. I am Indonesian and I prefer Deportation/Black list for foreigners who are against or abuse the local laws. Bali is our HOME, too. I bet, you will get such troubles if foreigners do in Jakarta ☺. Making stricter rules against tourists is a very good thing considering there are lots of foreign tourists who are reckless on the road, not even obeying the rules. Balinese people are kind & (super) patience. Let's make BALI back to "paradise island" for everyone 😇💖

Thank you for the update. Unfortunately I've noticed the same sentiment on Koh Samui. Especially visitors from a certain country that are rude to anybody that dares to interact with them, and then the party folk behaving irresponsibly in traffic. I can imagine local people find themselves conflicted between economic interests and liveability of their space.
I am okay with the tourists renting motorbikes but they must have proper license and their license from the homecountry must be recognised by Indonesia. It is the same for me when i visited NZ, i acquired proper driving license in NZ in order to rent a car to explore the country. So as an Indonesian, i expect tourists to acquire proper license to be able to rent a motorised vehicle, regardless how locals ride their motorbikes on the road, because most of us locals have license.

Back then, when Russians werent as many, Australians did such things.
My point is, no matter where they came from, if theres a large amount of people came from the same place, this kind of thing would happen.

Very informative and fair video. I have lived in Thailand most of my adult life, and some foreigners do believe that the road rules do not apply to them.
Love hearing your views on this Adrien. I fell in love with Bali back in 1988 and have returned many times since. Will be back there in August for the first time since 2018 due to Covid and fear we will notice so many changes that our hearts will be broken and our love affair will be over. I do hope that doesn’t happen. We don’t ride bikes and we do try to get away from the “craziness” so I hope we can still find some of the traditional Bali we love. Will be very interested to see how this all unfolds as I do think something needs to be done about those who chose not to respect the beautiful culture of Bali. Thank you for your opinions on this.
There’s still plenty of beautiful off the beaten path places around Bali. You just need to get away from the tourist traps.

I have seen many videos about misbehaving tourists. Sad to say but I have been to Bali too and also see many well behaved tourists. Let's make Bali a better place. Always keep good manner and follow the law when we travel anywhere
Now many tourists waving anarchists at police officers on the highway as they drive too far on motorcycles without helmets, without clothing and with no international license. We also have a special Indonesian citizen in Bali we follow all the rules of driving in our country. Even if we buy into countries our people also obey the rules of any country. And especially yesterday on the holiday of Nyepi (the holy day of the Hindu faith in Bali), it means no one leaves the house or the hotel and no outdoor activities. Just yesterday at the event a couple of tourists were setting up camp on the beach and then caught out by the Balinese pecalang, shouting at them and resisting them. Should tourists know of the rules that apply in our country Indonesia. A Hollywood actor named Chris Hemsworth is in Thor, he always goes on vacation in Bali, always following the rules in Indonesia, especially Bali. Thank you! 🇮🇩
been living in bali for 24 years now. Over the years i have seen more broken skulls and brains scattered on Bali roads then a Vietnam war vet. Instead of banning bikes for all tourist, just ban the rental of bikes to tourist that do not have a valid motorbike license. The police here can crackdown on rental companies but they are just too lazy to do all that work, so banning it totally will be a much easier option for them.
I live in Bali I have an Indonesian motorcycle drivers licence and I own my own motorcycle so this probably won't affect me even if it is actually brought into law, but it totally frustrates me to see all the westerners here riding around being totally disrespectful disobeying local law by not wearing a helmet, you wouldn't dream of breaking the law and riding a motorcycle with no helmet in your home country so why would you think that it's acceptable to come here and do it? It shows massive disrespect to the local authorities and as far as I am concerned they should just have their visas instantly cancelled for it. I doubt that they will totally ban tourists renting bikes if they do it would seriously harm Bali tourism, the traffic here is bad enough at the best of times without forcing all the tourists to hire cars and use taxis, nobody wants to spend half their holiday stuck in traffic trying to get from place to place.
I also have a local license and own my bike so I will not be directly affected however there is a bit of hypocrisy to consider this is only a foreigner problem when locals often drive poorly, without helmets, no lights at night, etc. in the last two weeks i have been hit by locals twice. Enforcement should be across the board for everyone so that the roads are safer for all.
@@AdrienField Yes I totally agree there are a lot of terrible local drivers here both on bikes and in cars, but while it is maybe "unfair" for lack of a better word the fact is we expats here get a bad name due to bad expat and tourist drivers not bad local drivers, it's one thing to flaunt the law when you're at home but it's a totally different thing to break the laws of a country that you're a guest in, it's not only unlawful it's also rude and disrespectful, I live in Sanur and on any given day sitting in a cafe on Jln Danau Tamblingan you will usually see more bule riding without helmets than you will see Balinese people riding without helmets.

The next things should be implement is no drinking on street. Tourist can drink in pub, cafe, restaurant, but no longer can drink alchohol on street.
Is the Same in Phuket! Actually Phuket have done first before Bali. You can still can drive motor bike as long as you have international Driving licence❤

I was in Bali in the early seventies. Don’t remember seeing any motorbikes. The few tourists there were - and the locals - got around on the buses if you wanted to go to another village, or walked if it was just local.
hello, I was born in the 80, and in the 90s, each matured child would have a motorbike for them if the parent can afford. If you have 3 kids that means 3 motorbikes. If parents can't afford, at least they would have 1 or 2 shared uses among the family. The growth of mobility and population is not leveled with the growth of public transportation so the our people rely on own motorbike. in the 2010 the economy went so good before corona, many family has their first car, and some more privilege family has the second car for moms as the norm. The heart of Bali is still the same, we just have more vehicles now 🙈

I've never been to Bali (close, but not to) however it is in my plans to visit, so I am dismayed to hear the news, and see how Bali may just be losing its spark. A shame, it is such a precious locale. I totally understand why locals are fed up, but, of course, the law abiding, good tourists now pay for it as well. I hope things calm down for all, and hopefully I can eventuall visit Bali. I hope your D7 visa process is going well. Portugal waits for you. My first trip to Bali was in 1969, and I have returned several more times since....I stopped going to Bali after a friend returned from a trip there telling me about all the great party bars at Kuta Beach....this was shortly before the bombing that took place there. My first visit to Kuta Beach, I was one of a handful of people visiting. Back then, you visited Bali for a spiritual experience....it truly was "The Morning of the World"....an island where it was illegal to build anything higher than the coconut trees...an island where the people believed the land was only on loan to them from the Gods and it was their responsibility to pay "rent" with music, art and dance. Sadly, those days are gone. Would I recommend Bali to anyone today? Hell no! I am so happy that I got to know the people and experience the wonder of Bali before the mid-1980's and the growth of tourism into the mess that Bali is now becoming.

There was many reason people, tourist comes to Bali. What the government Bali destination to be. Wish Bali known as a spiritual experience than beautiful landscape. We can see how government promote Bali by advertising media, by social media influencer, and all i see is only beautiful landscape show up. That's why travellers comes to Bali only want to have nice picture in their Instagram wall.

I’ve visited Bali on several occasions, including a 2 month solo trip around the island in 2019, and I never had to hire a scooter/bike. So I disagree that you need a scooter/bike to get around Bali. Yes, there a some places that a motorbike is more convenient for a tourist like Amed or Uluwatu as an example. Perhaps if you’re an expat living on the Island the motor bike is the cheapest option of transport. As for Canggu, I found it he location as unattractive before the Russians problem.
You definitely need your own owner scooter, for longer stay, Many foreigners now have kitas visa, intending to stay here for 2 years or more.

I think its good to put some much needed rules down regarding bikes and tourists.. but.. as someone temporarily staying here, I think a lot needs to be addressed also with the locals and their own lack of road rules, the fact many of them ride around with their babies and children who are not wearing helmets, nor themselves wearing helmets.. a lot of the accidents occur by the locals themselves so I believe some numbers need to be crunched, as well as being sure that every tourist has a international license as well as motorbike license.. a lot of change needs to happen, not just for the tourists..

The whole point in changing these motorbike and visa rules, was I believe, the Govt's desire to improve the calibre of visiting tourist. This will do that, to a certain degree, but I'm with you....as long as the night clubs and beach clubs are being built ad hoc, the "bogan" he will come. But you're right....change will happen.

I'm indonesian and it's already time to make sure that foreigners able to follow and respect our rules. The reason is a lot of foreigners behaving so bad and disrespectful so this reaction for our local government is for now banning the foreigners to rent motorcycle. Is expected that our local government will restrict more things to make sure all tourist have proper driving license and more thing will be introduce including more harsh restrictions. The Indonesian government also will close our borders to Russian and Ukrainian foreigners for quite sometime until they can make sure all of them following our law and have proper visa. Also the local government are planning to redesign the region to be more pedestrian friendly while Also trying to introduce more public transport like metro Bus and Trams in the near future, rn is already on proposal phase waiting approval and budget from central government. Hopefully it will done soon and will fix the traffic problems in Bali.
A tourist based island will innovate, invigorate and create an alternative to bike rentals. People are forever adapting to situations. Balinese people are very resilient and will surprise you.

One of the core problem in Bali and (indonesia) is corrupt law enforcement. The fact that tourist can "buy" the police, make them take less responsibility. And as long as the governor cant get rid of the crooks, there wont be any good sustainable solution. As Indonesian i feel ashamed because we are the one who "teach" tourist how to "buy" the law in the first place.

Who say they cannot go by car or motorbikes ? They are still allowed to. But only by motorbikes or car provided by their travel agents. AND as long as they HAVE INTERNATIONAL VALID DRIVING LICENSE FOR SPESIFIC TRANSPORTATION MEANS. Period.
I'm not against Russian or something, but if someone does not well behave and disrespect you at your own home. You should do something about it.
Not banned the tourist to using motorbike but our government arrange new rule about the tourist must have legal license and must rent the motorbike from travel agent or from licensed motorbike rental place
Just got back from visiting a few islands in Indonesia (Java, Lombok, Bali, Gili Air)… Gotta say the tourists with bad manners are definitely annoying… HOWEVER, I saw plenty of bad behavior everywhere involving motorbikes and NOT just by tourists. There’s definitely plenty of inconsiderate, and probably illegal, behavior coming from local guys on their bikes too, especially in bigger cities like JKT. Things like riding on the sidewalk. Riding the wrong way on one-way streets. Riding on what are obvious pedestrian walkways. Some guys refuse to get off their bike and even ride through the packed and crowded lanes in the wet market and they EXPECT you to get out of THEIR way! It’s as though once they have that motor running and they’re on that bike they have the right to just ride anywhere and everywhere and the pedestrians better just get out of their way because, you know, ‘I’m special bcoz I’m on my bike!’

..I wish that every tourist come to Bali respect the beautiful Balinese culture, nature and So warm hospitality of Balinese people ...PLEASE RESPECT THE LAND you are coming ! And please dont put all westerners im one box because we are also very different . Also in Europe we have same problem with tourists ....for example in Croatia was main problem in area where was organizing big parties ....domestic people experienced for the first time in our touristic history ( from 1970ies) young people sleeping drunk on streets and destroyed flats...and Domestic people have had problems and almost naked poeple coming to bakery or walking on street .Many times tourist in my country behave how they will not behave in their country and this is very sad and disrespectful..So please whatever you are PLEASE RESPECT ALWAYS the country and culture people and nature when traveling ❤ Much love to Balinese people and you have to protect your island and culture and nature because people coming for this

2023 marks my first time being involved in a motorbike crash accident - something i always expect whenever i ride my bike, but *never* during walking, here in bali and with a foreigner, of all people.
i still have the scar and it’ll be forever a reminder even the most reckless local motorbike rider here at least only have near-miss or, if i ride a bike, dents on my bike. idk, 25 years of existence and i got crashed by a motorbike _while walking on a trail with small chances of motorbike accident, a place i don’t even think will have such misfortune._

simple advice kids, YOU ARE LONG WAY FROM HOME, and Bali/Indonesia are home for the locals not yours, if you are a visitor then act like one, but if you want to be treated like locals then act like one, you can't take only the easy part from both side and ignore the hard part of it, so.. PICK YOUR SIDE
As Indonesian we are so sad to see some bad tourist come to our land and doesn't want respect to our culture and the rules there. Bali let them doing everything they want but please respect Bali's culture too , tourist get benefit & Bali also get the benefit, be fair then local welcome them well too🙏🥹🏜🏝🏖Indonesian love tourist foreigner too

This law is less likely to get passed because so many people are against it including locals and people with rental businesses. They need to restrict the law and get rid of these law-breaking visitors. I still can't believe some people come to another country and behave as how they like to behave without understanding that different lands have different people, cultures, and laws. And they need to adapt to where they live, not the opposite.

Banning the moped rent is bad policy but i strongly suggest the police and immigration office to conduct operation by putting check point along the road and visiting residences to make sure all foreigners are obeying the traffic safety rule and doing activity according to their visa (Tourist/Working). Also revoking Visa On Arrival from Russia and Ukrainian will be good choice at least in short term.
What ban was that foreigner forbid to open bussiness car rental or motor bike rental, if you obey the rule of riding in bali or any places in indonesia, you are good for ride, where ever we go we must respect culture the place we visit right.

When I rent the scooter due my holiday in Bali,sometimes I feel like so scared when I'm still ride my scooter somebody hit me from behind or suddenly bump out of me from somewhere direction,now its more getting worse and worried even just I'm walking. I see so many foreign ride scooter didn't use helmet,don't following the traffic rules n they look like the people who just know how to ride a scooter. Most of them don't care about their safety,but sadly they also do the same thing to the others. even though most people think its looking simple n easy to riding scooter when you only need to start the engine,throttle to speed,n hand break pedals to stopped..scooter still can kill you and the others,if u can't riding carefully
Yes correct. If compared to locals even when they ride in a fast speed or passing by, they know how to control the scooter coz they ride it since they young and still follow the rules. This is the things that mostly foreigners (who comes from non-motorbike countries) ignore and act like they are already master in riding motorbike but the fact that they only started learning how to ride just few hours before.
There is a complete double standard in Bali and other parts of Asia..Locals don't have licenses and have three members of their families on board all with no helmets..When a tourist is seen without a helmet , well, it's lunch money for the corrupt police.

Great information. Hope the government there does some things to control the scooter problem with tourists vs people who retire/live there. Foreigners that don't respect the country laws/customs should be heavily fined and thrown out. The government needs to make some examples of people to get the message across and things will change.

Dear foreigners, as you are guest, we'll sincerely welcome and treat you well. But as good guest, pls do watch your manner. When you got to Japan you abide the rules there, same thing in Singapore. So, why you can't respect good conduct in our country. We're mostly friendly, even forgiving people, but sometimes you're just too much.
Its the accumulation of the seriously bad attitude of tourists which not respecting Balinese culture, climbing Puras, nudity in sacred places, getting drunk and annoying others, disrespecting local religious ceremony and lot more. They just want to stay in Bali but dont want to adopt local manners (its okey if you not adopt the culture but atleast respect it).
It same thing happen everywhere, in Japan, in Amsterdam they are angry for tourists who just want to get drugs and common citizen rich countries in Europe getting angry with thise illegal immigrants and they different cultures and life styles.
Recently it also happen with local citizen disrespecting Bali's religious ceremony, Nyepi.
So it just not foreigners but also local tourists need to understand and respecting Local cultures and manners wherever we are.
A big problem here, is the fact that the traffic laws are rarely enforced, and both tourists, as well as local residents ride recklessly, without regard for their own lives nor the lives of anyone else. I saw two fatal bike wrecks, within a four or five day period, just about a week ago. Both of them appeared to be local residents. I agree 100%, tourists should show a lot more respect than many of them have been doing. I'm tired of my life being put in danger by the acts of so many narcissistic people. The bad driving seems worse in the touristy areas, but those areas have a lot more traffic as well. The fact I have several decades of motorcycle riding experience, has prepared me for avoiding several wrecks with bad tourist and local bike riders (and dogs!). I believe it would help, if the police would enforce the law. By the way, I believe most motorbike rental companies do not require a valid motorcycle license. They just want the money.
I think the lack of traffic law enforcement in Bali is maybe intentional, to boost tourism. Definitely don’t ever try those antics in Java, especially in Jakarta or Surabaya.
You know what ? Do not put the same to local peoples. Because they've been do it for many years. I believe if you follow as local do is totaly fine (DO NOT BEYOND) . But the thing is many tourist make their Own rules..

You know, using bike taxis is a trend in all around Indonesia, Bali is no exception. As a local from another region in Indonesia, it's better to order a bike taxi than to rent a bike itself since it's quite as cheap and you'll find it easier to use the apps to this service. More than renting a bike itself. In addition, the apps also provide other services such as online taxi (car), food delivery, house cleaning service etc. right down to even massage therapists. That being said, the local government's outlaws over renting motorcycles are not a problem at all. Find yourself a better way of enjoying your holidays without getting into troubles. 👌
Nah, ordering a bike taxi is faaar away from the freedom a rented bike gives you. If there actually was an enforced renting ban for tourists, I would never return to bali.
@@colalightyear7859 that's up to you if you wanna revisit Bali or not. The thing is no one including those from abroad can rent a bike without a licence. Actually the bike drive permit is available for foreigners, however their local bike rentals keep allowing the bikes to be rented without one. And that is the real problem. From what I know from a local activist's IG, their government is in an attempt to educate the rental owners to not rent the bikes to those who don't have licence/drive permit yet.
The main theme of Bali is the sense sacred of ritualism, local government should just ban or limit the quantity of motorcycles and cars in Bali.
Or separate the entire area for tourists to party
Disrespectful visitors have no right to ruin the quality of life for native people and other locals. If the government has to step in and take a hard line against the abusive behavior, so be it. What’s right is right.
Bali has taken these drastic steps all due to foreign tourists misbehaving, not respecting & taking for granted the culture, laws, tolerance & hospitality of Bali & the Balinese. This is not something new but in fact has taken place even during pre pandemic times but amplified lately after the reopening post pandemic to the extent the locals have had enough.
That's because some travellers come to Bali only Go to updated their social media first, cheap, nice views. They don't care about what country, what the culture, the local behave, and i believe they don't know what's Nyepi. They don't care and does want to learn. They get culture shock (the cases of angry tourists because of the chicken sound) and does not want to learn to accept.
Too many accidents happened already...so sad people comes to Bali to have good times but died after motorbike accident
People are only talking about motobike at this point It's not about motobike anymore, don't forget drunk behavior, bikinis or shirtless on street where kids can looking inappropriate things, insulting sacred place, stealing local job like surf guide, making cafe,etc. I know it's shock for foreigners but that's the point of a developing country we lack of strict rules and we're on progress to fix it now.
i see problems with the outlawing and why it needs reevaluated:
1. it HURT the economy for bike renters because a lot of people's lives depend on it
2. i have seen local tourists AND residents do the same dangerous and reckless driving with/out helmet and licenses and they more often than not got away even with police in front of them with it meanwhile tourists (esp whites) often get targeted even if they follow the rules properly becuase (corrupt) cops target them for easy source of money. There's also a LOT of SCHOOL KIDS riding on bike driving dangerous and recklessly too and as long as the cops doesn't need bribe money and wear a helmet they TOO get away with it
3. Bali's economy DEPENDS on tourism and foreign tourists make large % of it this will not help Bali's tourism recovery at all and will taint Bali's image more
4. Bali (and whole Indonesia basically) doesn't have very good local transport and basically car/bike DEPENDENT so you have to get a car/bike to get around ,A lot of tourists surprise surprise aren't rich and also don't have a lot of money so they prefer renting a bike and it can be more cost efficient for them than taking online motorbike/car taxi (grab/gojek) for example daily bike rent is on average 50-70k per day or 200-300k IDR per week while bike/car taxis can cost 10-50k for bike and 30-100k for car PER ride AND gojek/grab ONLY operates within Denpasar region (basically inner city area) and let's not talk about gojek/grab or even local taxi's tend to gouge fares
