I love Peter's stuff and he is incredibly entertaining but don't confuse confidence in one's Viewpoint with true knowledge of the future. Just in this interview he's backtracking on many of the things he said last year were definitely going to happen like Mass famine and people freezing to death in their homes. What prognosticators like Peter fail to realize is that there are billions of people that are conscious actors in this world and all have a vested interest in survival. Charts and spreadsheets are great but they don't speak to the human spirit.
The outcomes might be speculative but the underlying demographics, geographies, and existing industrial and energy complexes take years and decades to change. The world was sleep walking into this deglobalization and fed into Peter's narrative very well. Then Russia invaded Ukraine and woke everybody up. It's like they suddenly realized there was cobra in the room and took immediate action. It clearly took Russia by surprise. It's unfortunate because Russia has so much to offer the world...if only they'd be a better neighbor. He made an interesting point here I've not heard before. He's said in the past that Germany was demographically declining. He's also said since the invasion that their economy is on the precipice of an energy induced collapse. What's new...the large portion of the EU economy that Germany represents puts them all in peril. I'd not heard him explicitly state that before. Peter could be all wrong but we'd be foolish not to make contingency plans for various scenarios.
@@chrishooge3442 How about you become a better neighbour for Russia? How come Russia and India can collaborate very well but people can’t in Europe? India is a democracy. Why do you blame EU policy failures on the Russians?

Finally Peter admits the Russian people understand privation. So I've spent a lot of time in Ukraine and ventured into Russia once. One can't help but understand how similar their societies are. Most of the Ukrainians I speak with note their families raise 100-200kg of potatoes every year. Food preservation is a normal activity. As long as they have access to their preserved food and potatoes they will not starve. One also has to understand normal salaries. Unless one lives in a city the equivalent of $200/month is normal. And it seems like everyone's boss skips out on paying them at least once a year.

TSMC announced the Arizona factory in May 2020, initially pledging $12 billion toward it. In December, the company increased that to $40 billion, with plans to upgrade the factory with more advanced - though not the most advanced - chip-making technology.
I'm less concerned about his prognostications and more interested with the scope of his analysis. When he is wrong, what factors are being left out? He and the creator of "Real Life Lore" are rich in both information and analysis. With every sentence I feel like I am, at least, gaining perspective.
Interesting analysis. Surprisingly there hasn't been more discussion on these key factors in mainstream media. Now the difficult question, who can and how can they fix this or improve the situation?
My pedantic quibble is lasers are not typically used in "etching" semiconductors as Peter often states. That's generally done with plasma or terrible acids. The neon lasers are on the photolithography equipment that makes the pattern to be etched, in a later step.
True enough, but the point is that the UV lasers are required to make the make the best semiconductor chips, so it's a distinction without much importance.
@@philblum1496 That's true but I did say I was being pedantic. More broadly, it's good to be technically correct in what you're saying when you wade into commenting on technical stuff and this is the most technical of stuffs.
I'd love to listen to a Nigerian who took the time to study the detailed, boring economic statistics, the detailed, boring statistics about education, employment and industrial activity, and then turn all this data into fun, exciting and entertaining material. Zeihan is absolutely fascinating. A unique base of analysis - geopolitics and demographics - and an encyclopedic command of detailed history. Brilliant! And Maggie Lake is a superb interlocutor. An outstanding, illuminating, and engaging conversation. Well done.
I find Zeihan fascinating and enjoy hearing him speak, but people need to remember he has a vested interest in perpetuating doom. He speaks very declarative about very subjective subjects that are nothing more than him looking into a crystal ball. He just makes it sound like they are facts and foregone conclusions. He's wrong all the time. Like constantly wrong. He's been wrong about UA for the last year. He acts like China not being a country by 2030 is obviously just a fact. I could keep going but you get the point. Super interesting guy. Great speaker. Obviously smart. But keep in mind he's a corporate geopolitical consultant that benefits greatly from doom and gloom sentiment
Just some advice….you should learn what the foundations of your society are, and figure out what happens if those foundations go away without a plan to replace them. Good luck kiddo.
Never underestimate what a blank check from the United States can do for you. If it were strictly Ukraine and Ukraine alone, russia would have won within a week. Ukraine has the full backing of nearly all of Europe, US, Canada, NATO, etc… so russia is actually the clear underdog
The entire world thought that Kiev would fall within a week or two. I personally know that the Ukrainians see this fight as an existential threat to their democracy, and democracy of the entire world writ large. If Kiev were to surrender, the Russians would kill literally every Ukrainian civilian as well as every serviceman that surrenders. After that, it would be Moldova, then China would feel confident enough to invade Taiwan. The CCP sees just how strong the will to fight to save not only your democracy in their country, but countries everywhere. The PRC would lose half of their military force within 2 weeks.
@@charleswomack2166 Some of the Ukrainian speaking Ukrainians are wising up to the fact that Zelensky isn't a good guy. They are Orthodox Christians, and Zelensky has been jailing Orthodox priests and nuns. Don't be surprised to see a backlash for this.
@@charleswomack2166 Having to defend your home has that effect on people. Getting your home occupied without your consent turns anyone into a fighter, from Palestine to Ukraine.
This is a great interview however I would have to disagree slightly about the Neon and semiconductors coming to an end neon is used as a buffer gas just like argon and Krypton however I believe there is a company called gigaphoton that back in 2011 invented a technology that would recycle Neon gas which would reduce neon usage by 25% for complex semiconductors. The hTGM rolled out of production around 2016 and I believe is offered as a free option to add to their technology from the company if vendors switch to a Neon gas recycling program that reduces the usage by 25% which is significant. Semiconductor manufacturers will probably be able to stay ahead of the problem.

The difference between science vs politics and religion, is that science is meant to change as it keeps testing and challenging its assumptions. Politics and religion are more prone to sticking to their ideologies no matter how the world changes around them. I like the fact that Peter can be wrong. He keeps taking in new info and adjusting his projections. I have more confidence in that approach than in any insistence that he always get it right.
Peter is more often right than wrong in his predictions. Timing may be off, but it's not hard to extrapolate scenarios that lead to his projections. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst, as always. Made in the America's beats made over seas i.m.o.
No you have been misinformed by someone who is preaching the NATO narrative which is false. Ukraine has already lost 350,000 soldiers. This war is now over It ended in a place called Bakmoot. Ukraine has already lost 20 or 30,000 soldiers in the failed counteroffensive where they also lost 30% of the Bradley's Many leopards. They have not even been able to reach the first line of Russian defense. And apparently have given up trying.
Another excellent video. I was at the digital pound foundation conference tonight here in london and it was fascinating what is to come. Also regarding China/Russia CBDC threatening the Dollar Reserve
I disagree this man is nothing more than a NATO narrative shill. He is spouting misinformation and does not even have his fax correct. Russia has increased the mobilization in Ukraine to 1.5 million and he doesn't even know that or he does but won't tell you.
I would love to be as confident as he is in every statement he makes in every video. Especially when he states in the opening that "he was wrong" and he starts off again
I would have liked to hear Peter make a comment on the increasingly authoritarian regime of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Canada. Never the less, Peter digs deep in how interconnected the whole world is.
@@dingfeldersmurfalot4560 He said China would be done a decade ago, and has just pushed the claim back 10 years. Believed Russias nuclear hyperbole was just that, then considered it serious against certain targets, and is now saying it’s bull again. Flip flops constantly on how well either side is doing in this war.
@HARDWOOD THOUGHT well he updates his views with new information. Id prefer that over sticking to the same theory even when presented with new counter-evidence. He is certainly wrong about timelines, that is the hardest part to predict in anything. But just because his conclusions are wrong doesnt mean he isnt worth a listen. Look at the evidence he has and it has value. Unexpected or unpredicted things WILL happen. So no, he isnt nostradomus, but he does have some great points: demographics is influencing our economics in the background, globalization made the economy very vulnerable and we may be looking at its end, and things like energy and raw materials are taken as a given in the modern world but the abundance of them is a luxury we have been living with and gotten used to, which isnt sustainable.
Demographics are inevitable. Short term they are OK, but over the mid to long term they will fail as their population time bomb goes off. The west will survive due to immigration ... nobody moves to China.
I wouldn't write off China too easily, with more than four thousand years of recorded history, and probably plenty more undocumented history behind that. To say China can be stubborn, and willing to make sacrifices, is an understatement. They certainly can adapt to a degree, but they do believe in a total top down hierarchical control (effectively with a "King" or royalty). The economy is certainly a huge part, but China survived before the West came along to engage economically, and they're far more self-sufficient now. Russia proved when the USSR fell in the late 80's, that it's not impregnable to external pressures.
Long term, sure. Within our lifetimes? They're in for some bad times. And yes. Particularly their leadership is painfully stubborn. That's not a good thing. Also, they're not self sufficient. Not remotely.
MIT Romney is getting attention these days, speaking on his concerns, with China overtaking the U.S in every way, including Militarily… when I read an excerpt of MIT’s speech, this Real Vision - PZ interview came to mind. For me… this interview is a great PZ update. Thanks to all!
Mitt Romney is nothing but a rino sellout. He's one of those that were doing big business with china but talking bad about them here at home. I wouldn't put a dimes worth of interest in what mitt has rlto say about anything particularly when it comes to pharmaceutical companies.
First he goes from really confident about his predictions in the past to maybe this and maybe that if this happens. This guy has more back doors to the NSA.

Look at China now, 21% youth unemployment, economy slipped into deflation, real estate prices collapsing, exports down and that's not counting what they are hiding.
Finally remembered to exhale.
Thanks Peter for sharing your due diligence.

@Dr. Pyssinshytz That's the title of his book. Actually, several books..
TSMC announced the Arizona factory in May 2020, initially pledging $12 billion toward it. In December, the company increased that to $40 billion, with plans to upgrade the factory with more advanced - though not the most advanced - chip-making technology.
They're building 12 chip fabs there I believe.
Thanks for sharing!
Deal cancelled
Intel is building 2 chip plants right now in Columbus, Ohio. 50bil+ investment!
Ok, but still dependent on ASML chip fabricating. Anyway US can develop this technology?
EXCELLENT. EVEN I DISGREE
As usual, listen to Peter is the best intel about the international issues that we encounter!
Listen, and do the opposite of what he says, works almost 100% of the time.
@@CScott-wh5yk So very true.
I'm less concerned about his prognostications and more interested with the scope of his analysis. When he is wrong, what factors are being left out? He and the creator of "Real Life Lore" are rich in both information and analysis. With every sentence I feel like I am, at least, gaining perspective.
As a Chinese, I wish all Americans vote for this Peter Zaihan dude as the president of the united states
Is that sort of like wishing Biden was President of the US?
O dear the man is dilusional
Good work!
Thanks for watching!
@@philblum1496
That's true but I did say I was being pedantic. More broadly, it's good to be technically correct in what you're saying when you wade into commenting on technical stuff and this is the most technical of stuffs.
Your interviewing skills are fantastic. Great questions, great pace, great recap. Go you!
Great conversation!!
Thanks for watching!
This Peter guy is full of it! She actually said "balloon fiasco"!
As always, very enlightening conversation.
Thanks for watching!
Great channel do feel we get some great intel on what is going on in the world here. Great job!
I would love to hear Peter's opinion on my country,Nigeria, especially after our recent election.
Is the government still trying to force everyone to use the cbdc?
African countries won't pay back the debts.
I'd love to listen to a Nigerian who took the time to study the detailed, boring economic statistics, the detailed, boring statistics about education, employment and industrial activity, and then turn all this data into fun, exciting and entertaining material. Because this is, more or less, what Peter seems to be doing.
Semiconductor shortage.
If my refrigerator is unable to communicate with my lawn-mower, I shall endure the consequences with stoicism.
Peter’s opinions are almost being stated here as facts. He’s rather extreme in his views, and I’d be careful.
Thank you Peter
This was a great interview

One of the most informative and eye opening rv interviews ever .
Many thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
I would love to hear Peters view on the UK leaving the EU
Peter Zeihan is my favorite boomer fan fiction.
Just some advice….you should learn what the foundations of your society are, and figure out what happens if those foundations go away without a plan to replace them. Good luck kiddo.
Thanks for watching!
He is not a boomer. He was born in 1973 hence x generation.
Thank You for a superb discussion. Your engaging program is the BEST online!
Peter's best moment was when he told Canada they weren't a country lol !
Don't you know, you know Trudeau and Canada will be the greatest socialist nation in North America?
Excellent inputs from Peter Zeiham
The number one lesson that the Ukraine situation is to never ever underestimate the will to fight.
Unlike much of the rest of the world, Americans luckily don't know anything about that, hence their egregious use of tinfoil that only makes them more susceptible to BS: incubator babies, fifteen minutes from a mushroom cloud, the GWOT that must be fought "over there" even when we all know 9/11 would've been prevented were it not Cheney's LIHOP moneymaker.
Getting your home occupied without your consent turns anyone into a fighter, from Palestine to Ukraine.
You have been completely played. It's kind of amazing.
It’s not about performance. It is about who will win the war.
Thanks!

This guy sounds like a correspondent from CNN talking about Russia/ukraine.... if you know what I mean.
Still amusing
Mr. Zeihan is truly knowledgeable. It is a pleasure to listen to someone who knows what he is talking about--sounds like everything is rebooting. Hopefully the IT won't go too. 😮
Very informative
Glad it was helpful!
He is not a politician. He can b truthful. She is good at asking questions and getting answers that I like . He is on target. He’d should b advisor to president
Thanks for sharing!
Peter is more often right than wrong in his predictions. Timing may be off, but it's not hard to extrapolate scenarios that lead to his projections. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst, as always. Made in the America's beats made over seas i.m.o.
Not if it's made in Germany. But most of the best American engineers have German pedigree anyway. Or an other North European country

No you have been misinformed by someone who is preaching the NATO narrative which is false. Ukraine has already lost 350,000 soldiers. This war is now over It ended in a place called Bakmoot.
Ukraine has already lost 20 or 30,000 soldiers in the failed counteroffensive where they also lost 30% of the Bradley's

How does the Xi / Putin agreement for energy affect predictions, and switching to yuan currency.
They have to transport that energy several thousand miles.that will drive the cost of the energy any where from 5 to 10 times the industrial average.

How can he know so much it’s pretty amazing
Sad to say a lot of his content is not accurate

O well he gets paid and your attention to be. Wrong
He is completely wrong! So wrong it can't be a mistake. His intentionally spouting the NATO narrative which is false.
I would have liked to hear Peter make a comment on the increasingly authoritarian regime of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Canada. Never the less, Peter digs deep in how interconnected the whole world is.
Peter's take is that Canada isn't a 'country' at all. It's a string of provinces that are each more connected to the US than to each other.
Zeihan gets a lot right......and so much more very, very wrong. Mostly he LOVES hearing himself talk. He'd be perfect on NPR

😂😂😂😂😂
@HARDWOOD THOUGHT I haven't noticed any flip flopping when it comes to anything, he has been VERY consistent to be frank.
Amazing information......bravo Peter
Love the channel but honestly I wouldn’t write China off like this guy is
Demographics are inevitable. Short term they are OK, but over the mid to long term they will fail as their population time bomb goes off. The west will survive due to immigration ... nobody moves to China.
Nothing wrong with being silly
Maggie...ur the most intelligent also super pretty lady in journalism...... xxxxx
Younger Chinese have a saying “Lie Flat” as in they don’t believe they will receive proper compensation for work. New saying is “Let it Rot”.
Interesting!
Well I assume everyone changes their level of certainty about things as new information comes in? If he were to maintain his certainty despite changes in reality would that make you happier?
