Rancho Bernardo High School Royal Regiment performing their musical selection entitled March of the Women Marines by Louis Saverino at the 61st Annual Arcadia Festival of Bands Band Review on Saturday, November 15th 2014.
Results: Class AA
95.20 - 3rd place Band
483.5 - High Music Sweepstakes - Congratulations!
85.45 - 8th place Auxiliary
78.40 - 20th place Military Drum Major (overall) (5 pt. penalty)
It's so darned amazing to place third but still manage to keep the highest music score... I'm baffled. I'm sure they were shocked, surprised and overjoyed at the awards when they found out they were going home with that honor.
There was less than a 1 point difference in total score between the Sweepstakes Band and 3rd place. Not uncommon at this level of competition.
The 5 pt penalty was mostly responsible.
1pt loss for dropping the baton, 1 point loss for picking it up (no choice really), the 3 points were probably related to Showmanship, and marching. Tough day for the Drum Major. Outstanding music performance! They earned the Music Sweepstakes, to me the most important aspect for any music organization.
Wow. Marching a small block of your best is gutsy and smart; musically it paid off. But only 5 guard members?
bdfan4ever, there were a total of 20 in the guard -- 5 were on flags, 8 were carrying the "Rancho Beranardo" sign, and the remaining 7 were behind the band, carrying the banners.
Ranks of 7? I know Rancho Bernardo is quite a large group, why such the small parade block?
They only marched their Wind Ensemble this year. That is why they are so small this year.
...like this march A LOT!!!! Would like to see maybe DB band and especially their guard tackle this march! ...possibly sing the lyrics as well, might be interesting on parade. ( have seen it done in concert band and was excellent!).
Anytime I see the name Rancho Bernardo I KNOW it's going to be a tip-top performance...tight and smooth from start to finish....what a FINE band !

I am not a drum major but what does the five point penalty represent?
