A particularly painful detail is that it came down to his specific phrasing. "I know you have trouble controlling your powers" made Terra think Beast Boy had gone and fibbed on her, but almost any other choice of words ("I can see that", "I can tell that", "it's clear that", etc, etc) would've implied that he figured it out on his own. Of course, Robin didn't know it was a secret, and so couldn't possibly have realized the mistake he made in his choice of words.

@@MikeFireheartAs a comment elsewhere pointed out, Robin used the phrase "I know." This makes it sound like Robin is 100% sure of himself, because he is, and the only way to confirm Terra doesn't have full control of her powers is for her to admit it. She did for Beast Boy, so naturally it seems like Beast Boy told Robin.
If Robin instead used the term "I figured out" or "I noticed" or "I believed," anything less concrete in certainty would let Terra consider that Robin used his detective skills to figure it out, but needs her final confirmation to be correct.
And as the video also points out, Terra was primed by Slade to run away at the first sign of distrust, no matter how small.

    • @MikeFireheart
      @MikeFireheart Місяць тому +2

@@justinalicea1590 I can see the point you're trying to make, but it's really just splitting hairs to justify why Terra would blatantly ignore facts that she's aware of. Terra has to actively ignore that Robin is a famous detective, Beast Boy had little to no time to tell Robin about her secret, Slade is a well known villain to the team of heroes she is a fan of, and her uncontrolled powers had the subtlety of a large bomb in the caves where they fought Slade's robots. It didn't naturally seem like Beast Boy told Robin, since they had just gotten back from their mission and were letting Terra into the team. Honestly, the writing around Terra as a character in this show was forced and contrived to have her story continue. This isn't surprising, cause they had to practically carve out the majority of her character and story in order to make her more kid friendly. The changes ultimately left a shell of the original story, which was spread throughout multiple episodes spaced away from each other.

@@Cowboycomando54 it's a good message though, sometimes it is best even if it was a little irritating.
The New Teen Titans run in both the comics and show plays out very much like high school's Sophomore-Senior years, just like how the classic run's volumes 1 & 2 play out like it's 5th Grade-Freshman year. Some friends like Garth, Wally, Raven, BB, Vic, Roy, Joey, Donna (even though she rarely appeared outside the comics during the 2000's because of her causing legal drama), Omen (yet to debut outside the comics), Herald, Bette Kane, Tula, Gnarrk and Bumblebee stick around always, others like Golden Eagle, Card Queen, the multiple Supergirls, Freddy, Kyle and Hawks and Doves come and go, and then there are people like Terra who are just not meant to be because of them either not meshing with the group or secretly enjoying being the villain.
Terra's arc in the show? It's the latter. If she enjoys it, take her down. In the comic? She's open about enjoying being the villain. Even if she did turn herself to stone in the end...she still enjoyed being the villain.

@@timepilotcluefinder94 I get the message they were going for with the ending. personally though I hate how cold Terra is toward Beast Boy in the finial episode. I also feel it detracted from her character development. Hiding behind amnesia doesn't really illustrate growth or maturity. I think the lesson about letting go and moving on would have been better portrayed if we had seen Terra acknowledge her past with BB but been honest with him and explained that she was happy with her new life and just wanted to be a normal girl. Beast Boy would still have had to move on and let Terra go but we could have at least seen the two of them part ways on friendly terms.

@@vaulttec8766 Terra wants to make it easier for BB to move on. Hence hiding behind amnesia and trying to say that the Terra he knew is gone. She wants that life buried and forgotten. That’s life.
BB is tied to a lot of trauma for her, and likely is also a trigger too.
The fact she’s so broken and needs time alone is important to show. Shes healing. Those without trauma can never understand, that the “acceptance” and “honesty” comes at the END. She hasn’t grown or matured, she’s still a kid who hasn’t come to terms with any of it yet. Holding onto any idea of a nicely wrapped up bow is ridiculous, and it also ties into what TT ended up becoming.
We didn’t get the tied up bow of a proper Starfire season and series finale, and the series finale we got was sort of about how we would never get to see it. Thats life, and things change. Terra is in the beginning of her healing, and maybe she’d get back in touch with BB when things became better. But expecting a fully finished arc is bad writing. It didn’t detract anything. Ppl just have no patience for traumatized individuals. It’s why they tend to hide themselves and push ppl away, cuz nobody will ever truly care about them. Well luckily BB did.

Ah, avoidant attachment style. This one is me. I've struggled so hard to maintain relationships because of it. That fear of veing rejected that makes you preemptively bounce because you know they'll leave without your consent and regardless of how prepared you are, the rejection will hurt deeper than emotion could, because you are directly being told you are not wanted. Reasons don't matter, they don't want you and every time you see them, you will always know why they aren't in your life, because they do not want you. You are not wanted. I live this every day and it's so freaking hard. I guess I never knew Terra had that as a kid, but I see it clearly now as an adult. I just want to hug her. She's too young to have that fear constantly bouncing in her head like a perpetual super ball.

The only thing that I don't like about this episode is how she refused to even consider that Beast Boy was telling the truth. She just assumed, after he thoroughly proved he could be trusted, that he broke his promise, and made no effort to reconsider any other possibilities of how Robin found out.
It would be clear to anyone who was closely watching her during the training course that she was fumbling through it and got lucky, and Robin has the eyes of a hawk. He knew, but didn't care, that her control was lacking. And Beast Boy even told her already that they wouldn't care even if they knew

It'd be really interesting seeing a what-if comic where Terra just listened at the last part, like maybe Robin jumps in her way to stop her and explain, and seeing how much that would change the entire story. Even if it was a short summary type of comic.
I do love though that Beast Boy didn't spill the beans and they avoided a common trope where it's figured out by someone that the character admits it and breaks the promise.

I think the scene needed a rewrite to explain why Robin doesn't try to explain, or why Starfire doesn't stop her. Maybe it was just the three of them, maybe invitation to join the team was a party, so they were busy decorating, maybe Terra's distress causes a earth shaking so they can't react before she leaves. Anything to make the leaving less awkward. But lots of shows and movies have the "one person is leaving and for some reason is faster than anyone else". Its a common issue.

They were attacking cause they were trying to get Hulk to stop attacking and talk, also Tony and Thor figured out that someone was messing with him, if he'd just heard them out Hulk would've known they didn't think of him that way. But after a lot of thinking and more knowledge Hulk was hunted and called a monster his whole life or after the Gamma explosion made him, so his trust in others is not great(definitely took Bruce and Hulk a lot time to trust each other) and probably left before things actually got bad.

Man, I remember being so frustrated with her character as a kid, because I didn't understand why she acted or thought the way she did, but after having grown up, and experienced people who've been through extreme traumas and the way they can often respond to even the *smallest* things that you wouldn't realize until it's too late, her character makes so much more sense, and is so much more sadder to me.
Like, I always felt like she was a sad character in some way, she always felt _off,_ but I couldn't identify exactly why, but now I know.
She clearly has trust issues, abandonment issues, has likely been homeless for a long time, either abandoned or rejected by her parents, considering we don't even get a mention of them, either from her or the Titans, and all this can do a lot of damage to a young kid, especially if she's only ever tried to help, but ended up making things worse.
Heck, she might've ended up killing her own parents by accident, and that's part of why she's so traumatized and afraid, for all we know, idk.
But as much as I didn't like her for not being patient or willing to listen as a kid, I can definitely appreciate her character more now as an adult, given what I know now about how traumatized people tend to act and rationalize events and people in their minds, and I think it's an important thing for kids like me to see, so that they can understand what others may be going through, and how they can best help them if they can.

This terra it's a twisted father daughter relationship where he used her disconnecting from all other people to his advantage to build her up but only under his thumb. She's still one of the best characters of the titans series and 70s comics in general, she betrayed the titans and then shacked up with Deathstroke (slade) in a romantic underage relationship that got toned down in the show.
Terra in titans however is totally relatable but should have been a permanent member from the second season when she comes back , her betrayal would jave meant more and her working through her failure would have been all the more satisfying, because most kids have that fear and especially young teenage girls at that age.

Of all of the characters in teen titans...
Terra is the one we feel we most resemble..
Not for her powers, not for her personality or character...
But because of her insecurities and traumatic history.
We lived like that for a LONG time...
And it's still a bit of a struggle even today.
It often feels easier to run away than to face failure or potential rejection...
    It's rough

Relating to your hand motion monologue, I have a character who has mentally controlled powers who both uses gestures to make it easier to imagine the motions, but also does them to make his enemies think he needs them. Capturing him then becomes a trap because if he can think he can fight, and a good enough prison to contain him would ALSO be a perfect fortress from which he could simply swat you away from perfect safety.
As for Terra running away and the miscommunication, I feel it would have been better if *Beast Boy wasn't there*. She says something along the lines of 'but he promised...' sadly, something Robin has no context for, and then runs away.

I just realized after 18+ years, Slade's voice is also the narrator for 1000 Ways To Die 💀

I've been watching a lot of Teen titans compilation videos lately. And I noticed something interesting. In many ways, the show kind of feels like a prototype for the kind of cartoon that would go on to dominate the 2010s. You know, shows like Gravity falls, Steven Universe, Adventure time, The owl house. The kind of show that's been lovingly dubbed "cartoon epic".

I immediately recognized Ashley Johnson as the VA of Petra (Minecraft Story Mode) and I dont know how to feel about that.

4:56 this is probably the dorkiest joke you've ever told on the channel, and it's exactly the content I subscribed for. Bravo.

Oh yeah, and she was Jinmay! and Tulip on Infinity Train. Definitely quality voice actress.
I mean, a robe is almost as covered as you can get.. it's a lot more than Raven and Starfire's outfits cover.
eh..., Italians talk with their hands.. maybe that's what she meant? like hey I'm gonna give you gabbagool over here wit a rock. Also, whenever I imagine having superpowers, I always immediately use my hands. I think that's just how we work as a species, you want to guide whatever you can do with the ol grippers. Whether it's some kinda energy or floating objects or whatever.. So yeah it's probably a built-in psychological thing like you said.
Starfire could probably have flown over and caught up with Terra and explained it to her, but.. ehhh it's a story, it's gotta go that way.
