SNL was such a blast. I remember watching those performances live on NBC, finally got to see the boys for the first time in 1980, up in Lewiston, Maine. AWESOME show. Roy Buchanan and Levon Helm and The Cate Brothers opened.

Steve is a treasure, man i could listen to him tell stories all the time. Being a GD fan I love to hear about their lives and what went on backstage and on the road. I would love to know more about Brent even if his life was dull or boring which I doubt, I want to hear everything about everything, good bad or ugly. I just really enjoy it. What a time to be alive back then.

Hi Big Steve. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane. We use to love SNL.. I just had turned 14 y/o and remember watching 11/11/78 on SNL and getting very excited about it because I had a ticket for my first show in Boston on 11/14/78....A few weeks earlier we went to Ticketron for Styx tickets, they were sold out so the Ticketron lady said "I have four ticket left for the Grateful Dead" My brother and I were not sure about it but said OK...The rest is history .. That night at Boston Music Hall changed our lives forever..Thanks for your insight now and all your work over all the years.......... (Steve from NH)

Just got a copy of a book about the Blues Brothers from library. It came out in 2024. Grateful Dead is mentioned on page 187, the Nov 11, 1978 episode; Akroyd and Belushi opened a speakeasy called Blue Bar. It was private party to blow off steam after SNL aired. That night Frances Ford Coppola and Keith Richards were the bartenders. “The Grateful Dead raised glasses with the cast.”

I guess because you have imposed a self ban on SNL, you miss the swipes of Biden which occur fairly equitably on Michael’s and Colin’s news skit. So laugh whenever you find it funny, don’t when it isn’t, and quit being such a damn tight ass.
