I completely understand people refusing to leave without their pets. I know in my heart, there's no way in hell I would leave my sheepdog to fend for himself while hell's crashing outside our door. I made a commitment to him, and I would intend to keep it... even if it meant we could likely die. He's the kid I was never able to have. My best to everyone down there and their families. What a nightmare of a mess.

I have family in St. Petersburg, Florida and unbelievably, they just had hard wind and rain. No flooding at all. It's basically an island. It's strange, thankfully, how some places, or individual houses, are just "missed" and left untouched. 👏

Miami, Tampa, Key West, Fort Myers/Naples/Cape Coral are all listed in the most dangerous hurricane cities in America. Maybe it's time to move out of south Florida to higher land.
The supply shortage isn't as bad as it was but the labor shortage just gets worse. Demolition and removal must be done first and that requires a lot of laborers, maybe DeSantis might want to start flying immigrants into the state from Texas for work 🤣 .

Historically, Jacksonville does not get hit. The way the peninsula curves keeps them from getting a direct hit. The hurricanes go east and head north into the Carolinas.
No one could force me to leave my pets. No one. I die with them, period.
So many people don’t get that. I do. How could you live with yourself after you abandon something that loves you unconditionally. Just to leave them scared and alone? Hell no.
I put human life at the top of my life saving efforts over any animal. Maybe in your case I should make an exception.

How tragic: $47 billion in damage - and that's only a preliminary estimate. You really have to ask what the wisdom is in even rebuilding any of this property; it's not like this isn't going to happen again. It would be far wiser to simply abandon it. Besides, most likely all of the people and businesses in the affected areas are either under-insured or not insured at all - that might have a bit of a drag effect on redevelopment. Insurance for hurricane damage in Florida disappeared after hurricane Andrew...a LONG time ago now. The insurance industry saw this coming years ago; you can't blame them for wanting to limit their exposure... and buying all the right politicians to help them do it.
But, this is what you're going to wind up with when "rollin' coal" is your only response to climate change. Who would've guessed? Personally, I don't want one penny of MY tax dollars paying for any of this mess - especially after some of the commentary from Florida representatives after Hurricane Sandy hit the northeast a few years back. Screw 'em. Let DeSantis "bootstrap" his own damn state without the big-government, federal-dollar "socialism" he decries so often being part of the picture. He can show the rest of us how it's done.
Floridians - and, frankly, all of the Gulf-states better get used to storms like this. It's only going to get worse.

20,000 years ago during the last Glacial Maximum Florida was over twice the size it is now. By the end of the century 70% of what if left will be a sandbar at low tide. Acting as if we can just keep throwing Trillions at it over the few decades these areas have left to rebuild here is ludicrous. It's time and start rezoning these area's as coastal wildlife zones for the time remaining and not building homes on them that only have an effective lifespan of two or three decades at best.
Looting would be a huge problem right now, some people just love to take advantage of others when in crisis.

Here we go with the government shix. Rescue has been coming through all areas and lots of these people decided to stay. It's a fukn natural disaster. The relief is not something that happens overnight. You know the amount of manpower it would take to go in and cleanup in just a month alone? Everyone across the country would have to take off if work to come down here. People need to think about this. It's tragic, it sucks and most will never understand what it takes to clean up after this. Let's also not forget about SC also. There's this area that's flooded so even more resources. It's not like this type of flood event happens all the time.

I have been through two cat 5s and Ian makes 5 cat 4s . Ian may as well of been a cat 5 with being two miles less. We have a long way to go since Ian. We all survived in my immediate family but so much destruction after losing are roof and more. I pray nobody goes through one again anytime soon anywhere.
Isn't the smartest thing to abandon any land that went underwater and retreat to higher ground? Don't rebuild because the sea will return again someday? What is the logic of rebuilding? isn't rebuilding a bad investment?

I feel for the people in Florida. But this is only the *FIRST* hurricane to make landfall in the U.S. all year and the hurricane season officially ends in 5 weeks! In a normal year we would have had 7 hurricanes by now 3 of them major storms! So where is climate change? In 1928, the killer hurricane in Florida claimed 2,500 lives!

I know it might be a little late to say but I want to create a small job taking unused fruit and vegetables put into pvc pipe capped off and add rocks to the very bottom of the hole so the worms can create nest give the ground the nutrients to grow stronger refill each hole every 2 months water it once a week don't drown drill holes throughout half the pipe make sure no ant flies or pest are able to disturb nourishment inside of tube so worms can thrive plus they'll irrigate your grass create a stronger Bond hope everything grow faster more lush and you will notice a difference by the second month maybe third but every year you will notice a bigger difference

There is no way elderly should have take the decision to ride out hurricane with wind speed of 150mph. It should me mandatory that seniors and all citizen be evacuated from low line areas. I blame the media for not providing enough information on the destruction done my hurricanes in the Caribbean. The media shows more tracking that previous damage by hurricanes.
Does anyone else besides me think about "why rebuild in an area 10 feet above sea level" no telling when another hurricane can happen there again. What's there insurance going to cost or could they even get insurance in an area barely above sea level.
