Because the eye area is often the first place to show signs of aging, undereye filler is very popular! Done correctly, it makes a quick, dramatic, and lasting difference for the right patient, reducing hollowness that can make them look tired or older.
However, the “lifespan” of filler can have a downside. We’re starting to notice new patients coming in that look “overfilled.” It seems that some residual filler remains in the tissue much longer than expected - either where it’s placed or migrated slightly - and could be visible for months or even years after treatment!
As filler dissipates, a patient may come to their provider requesting a “refill.” Some providers may inject the same number of units as the last time, in order to deliver the same effect, and to ensure the patient feels they’ve gotten a “replacement” of the filler. Combined with the residual filler, this can lead to overfilling.
A better strategy - what our providers do at L&P Aesthetics - is to customize the treatment of the under eye area of EVERY patient, at EVERY visit! This means your provider will “top off” the residual filler very carefully, AND consider adding other treatment modalities, if that’s what it takes to deliver the optimal result. (Our aesthetic injectors strive to deliver beautiful results, not a prescribed number of units!)
