Oh my goodness, I can't believe how simple you have made this thank you thank you!!! I have been struggling with this all morning on different channels trying to sort this out - maybe it was just one of those days, but, I got it - thank you
Thanks for this! Still relevant in 2022 on Indesign 17.2.1. A client of mine requested pop-ups and I had run out of real estate. This helped me a lot as I have never had the request before.
@@ChrisMorenoDesign Hi again, I've just realised now that the project I'm working on will be opened on mobile devices too. I just tested it and it doesn't have the desired effect on my phone. Do you know if there is a work-around, or do pop-ups only work properly when opened on desktops/laptops? Thanks
Good afternoon. An error occurs when uploading to an interactive PDF. The layers are unloaded in the wrong order. The close button falls under the description layer and does not work. I tried changing the layer groups, it doesn't help. What could this be related to?
Thanks this was pretty straight forward - helped a lot!!! Although do you know how much text can we add to the pop up window? And if we can add scroll bar as well to read through the text in the pop up window?
Hey Chris, Thank you so much for the very informative video. I'd like to create a Table of contents in a pop up window. Is it possible to create a pop up window that contains links that lead to another page of the document? I made the links before turning the TOC into a button, but it didn't work. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks Chris.
Greetings - appreciate the kind words and great question! Yes, this is possible, and my latest TOC video will walk you through the steps: ua-cam.com/video/8uCmIYYO2FU/v-deo.html Please keep me posted, cheers!
You can trigger a TOC in a pop-up, but it won't be interactive in PDF with this technique (interactivity within a button is problematic). You'd need to put the TOC in an Object State, or use an animation where the TOC is hidden to start. That would be best supported in our commercial add-on, in5, but it may also work in Publish Online and Fixed Layout EPUB.
Hi Chris. I notice that the colour of the navigation tabs changes while you are on that sections and it remains the same when you are scrolling on the same section. can you please explain how you set up this effect?
Hi Chris Moreno, Question: I'd like to place a hyperlink in the pop-up (let's say where you placed the phone-numbers). If I do it threw the hyperlink-panel the links don't work. Do you know how to resolve this? Thank you for your clear and quick tutorial! It was very helpful so far.
The fact that the pop-up itself is a button may be blocking any clicks inside on hyperlinks. Creating a pop-up with Object States and exporting to Publish Online, Fixed Layout EPUB, or in5 will likely be more reliable. Here's an example of a pop-up with interactive video controls inside, exported with in5: ua-cam.com/video/TkWVOJA5Be8/v-deo.html
hi, thank you very much. one issue though. when i open the interactive pdf on mobile with acrobat, the buttons do not work. page to page from the last video works but the contact info buttons from this tutorial do not show the info on mobile. works perfectly on pc though...
That is one of the limitations with PDFs (reader inconsistency). You might want to look into an HTML-based format: ua-cam.com/video/XW-dvtI6g2U/v-deo.html
Hi. Thank you for an informative video. I have a problem - I un-check the printable box but the pop-up still shows up, if open, when printing the PDF. What do I do wrong?
Hi there! I recommend starting from scratch - recreating the button and steps - just to see if something was missed. It definitely should not be doing that. Thanks for the comment!
Hey Chris, thank you for this video! I am trying to create another button within the pop up. Is this possible? I'd like the end piece to remain as an interactive PDF. Any insight or tutorials you can recommend would be awesome! Thank you!
I followed the steps, but somehow my pop up get stuck once it's triggered (Of corse viewing it in an interactive PDF). Does anyone have experience with this?
Hi there! I haven't tested this recently, but often times in the past if a mouse-click happens outside of the window area after the pop-up is triggered, the pop-up may freeze. Once a pop-up is triggered, the next mouse-click should happen in the window area, like the close button for example. I hope this helps!
For some reason the pop up works perfectly in the html preview in InDesign, but if I export it to an interactive pdf the close button and the hyperlink button disappear. I suppose they end up behind the Pop-Up Window itself but I can't figure out why and how to fix it... if anyone has ideas, help is appreciated!
Hi Shelly! I would run through the tutorial again to make sure all steps, from creating to exporting, are the same. Also, double-check all elements are on the same layer. Hope this helps and thanks for stopping by!
