Hi Cristian and thanks for reaching out to us. We'll be happy to advise how to collect a saliva sample for the test. Yes, you need to spit into the tube. You'll find step by step instructions in the guide we've linked below but please get back to us if you have any questions or run into any problems. 🙂
The solution wouldn't come out when i tightened it tpo much, so i loosened it and then about half of the blue stuff came out. This wont be a problem, right?
The first time I did the sample, it didn't look like the blue liquid was "released" so I kept on twisting the cap and it started leaking. I sent it off but had to redo it. This time I'll turn it till it stops, sit it down for a bit, like a minute or two, then shake it and send it off.
Advice : don’t expect the blue fluid to go down quickly. You may not see how it’s going down but it’s actually going down. Screw tighter and Just wait a few minutes.
Thank you for this comment. It took at least 5 minutes for mine to do so and I thought maybe I didn’t screw the top tight enough but I could only screw it on so much 😭
The design of the kit I have is slightly different. The collection bag is a zip-lock; it has no sticky seal. There is something in the collection bag: a rectangular paper-like sheet with 3 columns. I couldn't figure out what that thing was for.
Same here.... zero instructions.... and, had to print out the return label which is bigger than that white box, I'll just assume is the box I'm supposed to return the sample in....so, I had to print it out FOUR times to get the label to a size that fits the box....crappy return set up indeed.
@@Bloozguy There was a return label stuck on the box that contained the kit I got. The flap that had been tucked in then went over the edge to seal it for posting.
@@MarkSteelePhotography Actually, this comment was quite helpful! Thanks.... I had not notice the inner flap had a sealed sticky edged you could use to seal up the box.. But, I did get to print out the return label...after 4 printouts to get a size that would fit on the box, lol. I'm guessing they expect YOU to print out the return label, must be different for every country is why I'm guessing. But we shouldn't have to be figuring this out ourselves , I think. I still have to tape the label to the box tho.
Yet the instructions say only a quarter of a tsp needed! I’m here on YT as box instructions not clear to me. They didn’t show the spitting part either. I know it might sound gross but I need proper instructions.
Right how do you get that much saliva spit in a tube at one time does it take the whole day or two days? You don’t have to fast or anything do you? What if you were just eating something to change the color of your saliva
The warning not to eat or drink should be much more visible and I multiple sites. Did not realize until I watched the video trying to to find the darn adhesive strip. Bag was plastic not foil. Will I have to redo?
The bag and the box I had are a different design. Not a sticky seal on the bag and the box just folded closed. No adhesive anywhere. I trust the strips of Sellotape I added won't make it too difficult to open.
I activated, spit, successfully added the blue liquid and sealed it. I mailed the kit and usps says the package as successfully delivered, but there’s been no change on the app, after weeks. I wonder how to move forward if they‘ve maybe lost the kit. I’m so excited to find out the results.
My kit did not have the plastic strip to seal the plastic bag nor instructions as to what to do with the white perforated strip.

The box I have looks different. I don't know how to open it or which part to put the sample in. I don't want to break it. I can't find any good instructions
Does the very bottom of the tube (or more like half of the bottom) seem like nothing is in it? My spot appears to be sitting on top and I didn't need nearly as much spit as I thought. I thought I would be filling the entire tube. This was barely anything on the top. Is that normal?

I bought 3 tests for 3 different people. I assume there is a way to identify and differentiate which test is for each person. Do they need to be activated separately or can I use my account for all three?
Every adult needs to activate their own test. However, those test can then be shared with and managed by a single person if that is what they agree to. You can then access all three tests from your account. You can learn more here: ua-cam.com/video/5aFWNSLqZ04/v-deo.html

Hi there and thank you for reaching out to us. We are sorry that there is some confusion around activation and the return of your sample. We're eager to assist you. Please confirm what country you are in so we can better advise on the return of the sample. With regards the issues you are having activating the test, can we ask you to double check that you are not mistaking letters for numbers or numbers for letters? We only ask as this is a common error. For example, sometimes members mistake a B for an 8 or an O for a 0. It should alternate between letters and numbers. Also, where did you purchase the kit? We look forward to hearing back from you.

A frustrating exercise: Was I already registered and why did I have to fiddle around changing my password? It just told me there was a problem but not what it was or what to do. The clear collection bag and paper sealing strip in my kit looked nothing like this. Give just one full set of instructions, not one lot on a leaflet talking about spitting in multiple languages and another on the inside of the box.

Hi Thanh, thanks so much for stopping by. We'd love to share some information with you about returning your AncestryDNA kit. When you receive your order, there will be a prepaid return mailer included with the kit. We hope this helps!
I posted my Daughter's and my DNA kit's on the the 30th of August. You received my Daughter's on the 8th of September. But you haven't received mine yet. Does it usually take this long to receive them.
Hi Len, thank you for the question. We appreciate the opportunity to advise that kits can reach our lab at different times, and then each stage of the testing process can vary from sample to sample. All tests are anonymous, with only the 15-digit activation code distinguishing each test from one another. With this in mind and the fact that a test can get separated from another in transit, this can lead to the testing process taking different amounts of time for each sample. It is important to note that it can take up to 20 business days for a sample to be marked as received once it arrives at the lab. Business days do not include weekends or holidays. We hope this information helps.
Hello JML 5737! We regret any misunderstandings and will be happy to advise. If your mother wish to participate in AncestryDNA she will need her own Ancestry-account, set up with her own name and email address. This is a requirement in line with current data privacy relations, as each person needs to own his/her own data. If your mother doesn't have an account with Ancestry yet she can set up a free guest account. This step is explained here: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Free-Registered-Guest-Accounts Once she has her own account she can complete the activation, as per instructions here: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Activating-an-AncestryDNA-Test Finally, after the activation is completed your mother can share the results with you, if you both wish. If she gives you manager access to her results you would later be able to access these also via your own Ancestry account as well, where you can for instance link them with an existing family tree or help her with additional research. The following article explains how she can share her results with you: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Sharing-AncestryDNA-Results We truly appreciate you and your mother taking part in AncestryDNA and hope that this reply is clear and helpful!
Silly question. I had head and neck cancer, the radiation treatment I received screwed with my saliva glands. I can still spit but it is sometimes thicker or thinner than the original consistency. It wouldn't throw off the results would it?
Hello Matthew! We're sorry for any concerns and will be happy to advise. Your DNA results should not be affected by your treatment. We advise against testing only for members that have received bone marrow or stem cell transplants, as this could affect the results. You may be at a slightly higher risk of having to send in a replacement sample for us, which would be requested if we're unable to analyze the first saliva sample sent in. This would still be rare, but can happen for various reasons such as saliva contamination or when something happens to the sample during transit. If a replacement would be needed this is offered at no extra cost. You can find some additional information here: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Why-an-AncestryDNA-Sample-May-Fail-at-the-Laboratory. Many thanks for your interest in AncestryDNA. We hope this is helpful!
Hi Kiki, and thanks for reaching out. Depending where you are in the world, it can take a minimum of 20 business days for the Lab to scan the sample as received. This is due to the high volume of kits the Lab has to sort and scan. It could be in the Lab like UPS said and is just awaiting to be scanned. If more than 20 business days ( not including weekends or public holidays) has passed since the day you sent the kit to us, we can then investigate this for you. Once the Lab scans it as received, you will be notified via the DNA tracker on your profile and email. support.ancestry.com/s/article/AncestryDNA-Test-Status We hope this helps and we wish you a nice day!
Shoot* Do you think a vape pen counts against the 30-minute clearance? I initiated saliva into tube prior to the warning ⚠️ My kit didn’t come with any directional cue- I don’t know why I’m excited/ nervous 😬
On mine smoking was included along with not eating, drinking, or chewing gum within 30 minutes also when mailing it back do I have to write my name on the box? Or write anything at all?
I filled the tube to the spit line but once I released the blue solution it was way above the wavy line as in the video shown, is this normal for the DNA sample ?
Hi Richard! Thanks for reaching out with your concern regarding your DNA sample, we'd be happy to help. Don't worry, that's totally normal, you only need your actual saliva to reach that line, once the blue solution is added the sample can and should be above that line, as you have added more liquid into the sample. We hope this helps, but if you have any further questions feel free to ask away!
We're happy that we could help Richard, we have linked our support site below where you can get in touch with our team should you have any queries in the future: support.ancestry.com/s/?language=en_US We hope you have a lovely day!

Hi Luiz, and thanks for stopping by! We regret any concerns or misunderstandings and will be happy to advise. When an activated sample reaches our labs the analysis typically take about 6 - 8 weeks. At this time we can provide an estimated completion date, which will display on the status bar on your account. This date is an estimate only, aimed to give you an idea of when to expect the results. However, each sample is unique and the completion date is not necessarily the same as the estimated completion date, this varies. Kits are first sent to Ireland and then onto our labs in the US. Once an activated kit arrived back in our labs the results take about 6 - 8 weeks. We recommend to first double check on your account to make sure you've activated the kit, by typing in the 15 digit activation code from the test tube.

The design of the kit I have is slightly different. The collection bag is a zip-lock; it has no sticky seal. There is something in the collection bag: a rectangular paper-like sheet with 3 columns. I couldn't figure out what that thing was for.
Did you find out what it was for?
@@mischapowell8366 Nope, I removed it altogether 😅 Still have no idea what it was for.

I bought a DNA kit for my mum to use, will i be able to activate her one on my account? as i have already done my own DNA test on it..
This step is explained here: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Free-Registered-Guest-Accounts
Once she has her own account she can complete the activation, as per instructions here: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Activating-an-AncestryDNA-Test
Finally, after the activation is completed your mother can share the results with you, if you both wish. If she gives you manager access to her results you would later be able to access these also via your own Ancestry account as well, where you can for instance link them with an existing family tree or help her with additional research. The following article explains how she can share her results with you: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Sharing-AncestryDNA-Results
We truly appreciate you and your mother taking part in AncestryDNA and hope that this reply is clear and helpful!

When i put the blue cap on it didn't click
When I watched this and it said “might take a minute for the blue liquid to release” I looked at the tube and it was already in there 😂
For those having trouble with the blue liquid, make sure the cap is as tight as you can get it. Then give it a few flicks and it’ll go down
Silly question.
I sent my sample 2 week ago and usps said it has been delivered for a week now but my kit tracking says kit activated but not sample received
Once the Lab scans it as received, you will be notified via the DNA tracker on your profile and email. support.ancestry.com/s/article/AncestryDNA-Test-Status
We hope this helps and we wish you a nice day!

However, each sample is unique and the completion date is not necessarily the same as the estimated completion date, this varies. What we can advise is that your results should be ready within eight weeks of the sample arriving in our labs.

We do truly appreciate you taking part in AncestryDNA and understand that you're eager to receive results, we hope that they will be ready soon Luiz. Thanks for reaching out!
So I just put everything into the box, the sample in the BioHazard bag. My kit didn’t come with a label to send the box back…. Do I just send it like regular mail?
Hey Mackenzie. Thanks so much for checking out this video from deep within our archives. We're afraid that some of this information may be out of date so we'd be pleased to ensure you have accurate information to help return your kit. Please note that our return shipping methods vary from country to country so we would encourage you to reach out to us via our support center so we can learn more about your location and advise you on the correct method to return a sample to our lab for testing. We're happy to offer a Live chat service directly via our Support Center which you can find here during our opening hours: support.ancestry.com/s/contactsupport. Please bear in mind that you will first be invited to chat with our support bot 'Leif' and will then be redirected to chat to one of our representatives should this fail to resolve your query. We hope this helps and we look forward to chatting again soon. Best of luck in your future research!🌳
Hello. I can’t see any recipient address on the box 😢
Hello Marco! We're sorry for any concerns or misunderstandings and we're eager to assist.
If you're located outside of the US you should have a small white box as part of your kit, which can be used for the return shipment. When activating the kit online you should be asked to print the return label, to attach to this box. Instructions for how to activate a kit online can be found here: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Activating-an-AncestryDNA-Kit. Further instructions on how to send back a kit can be found here: support.ancestry.com/s/article/AncestryDNA-Shipping.
If you're based within the US you should have received a pre-printed return mailer box. If that was not the case, please reach out to our customer support team and we'll be happy to assist. You can find our live chat here: support.ancestry.com/s/contactsupport.
We truly appreciate you taking part in AncestryDNA and hope this is helpful!
@@AncestryUS ok got it ! Thanks
@AncestryUS Can I put it in my mailbox or do I have to take it to the post office?
Hi Laura, we are sorry we did not see your question sooner. You can just drop your return mailer off at any post box no need to go to the post office.
Mine has been shipped 24th of august from camden nsw australia but until today no sign of recieved. 😢
Hello Panggih! We regret any concerns with your DNA sample, we're happy to advise. Normally it can take up to 40 working days for samples to arrive back in our labs when posted from Australia. Kits are first sent to Ireland and then onto our labs in the US. Once an activated kit arrived back in our labs the results take about 6 - 8 weeks.
We recommend to first double check on your account to make sure you've activated the kit, by typing in the 15 digit activation code from the test tube. If we receive samples that are not activated we cannot analyze them. If the kit is not yet activated, please activate now if you still have the activation code, instructions here: support.ancestry.com.au/s/article/Activating-an-AncestryDNA-Kit. If the sample has not been activated and the activation code is lost, please contact our support team, so that we can advise. You can find our chat here: support.ancestry.com.au/s/contactsupport
As long as your sample is activated you can follow the status of the test via your account, where you will also be able to see when the sample arrived back in our labs and find the results when ready. Instructions here: support.ancestry.com.au/s/article/AncestryDNA-Kit-Status. In the rare case that you can see from the status bar on your account that the sample has still not yet arrived with us after 40 working days, please also contact our customer support team and we'll be happy to have a look for you.
Many thanks for taking part in AncestryDNA. We hope this is helpful!
Ah.. so that’s why my DNA 🧬 kit I sent 2 weeks ago from UK 🇬🇧 to 🇮🇪, is still not showing received? It only registers as received once in the USA 🇺🇸? Is this correct? Thanks 🙏
I completed the process of submission, took it to the Post Office but there wasn't a form which the post office has to complete so can be shipped to the address in Utah, USA How to get a form
Why do you need a form? And what form are you looking for?Just give it to them to send?
Just got the kit for me and my daughter. We didn't get the collection bag in either of our kits to put the samples in. Just the box. Will it still be ok?
Hi Len, thank you for the question. We are glad that you and your daughter are taking the AncestryDNA test. If you do not have a collection back you can just put the test tube in a ziploc style plastic bag when you are ready to send your sample back to us.
@@AncestryUS Ok Thank You
Happy to help, have a wonderful day!
I PUT IN MY CODE 5 TIMES AND IT WONT SEND IT SAYS IT IS THE WRONG CODE
Megan chevy well you lost your money
Same! I’m under 18, so should I pick the “My Child” option? Lol
I just read this I hope you contacted Ancestry and they sent you another kit for free. They do millions of these kits and sometimes things go wrong. The fix with Ancestry is often free. Some samples will not work so a new sample is needed and they send you another kit for free. I sent my kit off and then found out the code did not register and they sent me another kit.
how much and where to send it? curiosity brings me here

My box didn’t have an adhesive strip, is it okay to use regular tape?
Sorry about that. Go ahead and send it in, sealed up with tape. If your sample doesn't show a status of "Arrived" on your DNA page within a couple of weeks, give us a call and we get a new kit shipped out to you.
