Based stuff Hammu, I'd like to add a minor thing that I forgot last time we spoke: surface detection values of your ships are pooled together and if you have a higher amount than your opponent you will enjoy better positioning, this is why it is generally advised to always have helicopters on your ships as positioning is very important, especially when fighting opponents with fewer ships then you.
Great to read that, just for realism (if possible on the slots) I always had an helicopter on every ship, thinking it would be like an awac doing overthehorizon radar, detecting fleets, and if not, playing rescue mission, antisub - even if irl, you would need specialised helicopters in fact, not one do it all) Great to know it actually helped me for the rare naval battles I had!
We need a series where somebody makes a map with only two countries that are completely identical at the start. Then you give each of them a bunch of different resources and military assets with 2-3 years to prepare before total war
The weird thing is that corvette and frigate are the frontline, but most countries use frigates as destroyers (the main battleship with wide antisub marine and antiair capacity, thus protecting the fleet while having antiship and land missiles - not as much as US destroyer but not every country needs a war every decade hence the frigate being a destroyer for some countries) so what is the destroyer to them since they don't use those? (on your frontline, second line, destroyers are hoi4 battleships while frigates are hoi4 destroyer-cruiser)
I absolutely love playing the naval game in millennium dawn, I'm so very excited for this new system. Naval and Air power are always my biggest focus which is how it is in real life. A strong Navy and powerful air support can completely wreck the enemy. I can't wait to see what they do with the new plane designer too I'd love to redesign our F22's & F-35's! I am curious if it would not be more effective to use a mix of Surface to air missiles and CWIS on super carriers rather than exclusively CWIS?
I don't know when it was introduced, but there is the possibility of limiting the production of AI countries( plus there is a potato PC option), although not as enjoyable as without it. Also, try this: disable EU disable NATO, remove micro states. That frees up much of your CPU.
A bit but in-depth is something that mods should do more rather then it being a bunch of minigames to setup the meta and then walking through a territorial expansion storyline

Just wondering, If corvettes and frigates are screens and dds are capital ships, are nuclear powered destroyers and cvs worth it since fleet range is limited by its screens? It seems like fuel consumption is the only upside, at the cost of build time and IC. Seems like subs are the only class worth going nuclear.
Yeah they act as screens. Nuclear destroyers are absolutely worth it. Destroyers got switched recently, I forget what to. Nuclear ships reduce your fuel enough its worth it if your supplies will be limited.
Thank you for sharing this. Could you please clarify, how does the anti-ship damage interact with the first line? Since the frigates and corvettes don't have an option to use a nuclear reactor, an issue arises whether a long-range strike force would be able to be effective without the first line. Does the anti-ship damage ignore the first line?
As far as I understand it you could compare it to heavy attack in vanilla, its still able to do a lot but will target bigger ships first, though front line ships will try to screen those shots.
@@Hammurabae As it turns out, the bonuses in the Blue Navy section, and changes to the hit profiles in the variables end up in a configuration where the Anti-Ship Guided Weapon (ASGW) damage (corresponding to Heavy Attack in vanilla) is very much on par with the Light Attack in vanilla (which now became naval artillery damage). The penalty suffered by ASGW is within 20-25% or so. This makes these weapons much more plausible, considering that they ignore armor completely.
@@Hammurabae Given how effective the ASGWs have become and superior capabilities of the ship-based AA compared to vanilla, the role of front line against an advanced fleet is diminishing. Furthermore, the Blue Water Navy provides an extra 30% bonus to screening by capitals only. This totally changes the game in favor of capitals-only approach, with CV cover (which may even be optional versus ships that have a really heavy AA).
Is it just me, or do surface ships completely lack the ability to do anything? like they cant patrol, strike force, convoy raid protect etc. am i doing something wrong or?
For naval invasions I fill a carrier with multiroles. If I have green air I use them for cas, if not air superiority for green air. Make sure to put your navy on the coast where the invasion is hitting to get shore bombardment bonuses
@@Hammurabae no I meant, amphibious ships along with carriers. (especially with nsb, amphibious have a bigger use for naval invasion, I believe) (like me in vanilla, I use carrier with fighter&navalbomb for naval battle ( fighters because you might fight somewhere in the Atlantic or Pacific with no airport in sight for tactical bomber&long-range fighter) and another carrier (just change the icon to make it a new class of carrier) amphibious full of cas, helping my naval invasion - with no fighter since that's the carrier role and in a fight, it could overcrowd the fight giving me a malus) (for MD, there are amphibious ship, lha or something)
i'm curious, usually i start out with some basic, what seem like multi role, carrier jets... will they, when just being used in on the carrier, and not being sent away, perform both fighting and bombing roles? or do i have to assign special naval bombers to the carrier?
Carrier planes are a specific type that need to be produced separately. You can do bombing mission and fighting from the carrier with them but their main use is in naval battles
This all cool and will do it when I roleplay more but when I play a minor nation is sub spam still viable in MD? I don't have the energy to sit around for hours for a navy when I already had to sit around to build up my nation while it is fun it gets boring when you can't go to war with any majors after a while.
@@Hammurabae I think, RAM have the same HP bonuses, and higher AA attack, at the same surface visibility level. This makes RAM a better option to CIWS. What do you think about this observation? Am I missing something?
Destroyers are screens so 6 heavy cruisers and 3 carriers with 36 screens would be great. Maybe a few subs to compliment as well for a smaller navy. Tbh with a fleet that size I would have 1 carriers, and put the production cost of the other two into cruisers
this mod turned out great! Why was naval invasion capability is so reduced? I can invade with only 10 units for half the game... why this reduction? Where can i get more capability??
Given the logistical difficulty of exercising a modern naval landing. Base hoi4 dramatically oversimplifies the difficulty of it to a comedic level. Modern naval invasions require insane amounts of logistics, it could easily be argued how much they reduce is too little.
Uh which version is this? Is this 1.7 already? Because for some reason I still have heavy attack in my game and destroyers are screens. Ah yeah it is, okay nevermind
Did not see anyone ask it, but why is the refit cost so high when changing the engine? Even when upgrading the engine of the same line gives you 88 years of refit.
Engine refitting is incredibly expensive, they are one of the biggests costs on a ship. Generally for refitting you only want to upgrade fire control, radar, an maybe a weapon module or two. Its worth just making a new ship rather than refitting engines
Yes, cost wise they are more efficient. I think I eft it out but destroyers go in the second line and are generally the best choice meta wise. You can pack them full of anti ship attack and they will be incredibly effective
@@Hammurabae how do I organize my fleets so that the 1st line is frigates and corvettes, the 2nd cruisers and destroyers and the last aircraft carriers + submarines under the water

It really comes down to your computer specs sadly. THe 1.7 update should improve performance a little. The only thing I can recommend is opening up task manager, going to details, right clicking hoi4.exe, and setting priority to realtime. That may help a little.
