I have a woodworking booth this weekend so I've spent the last
couple of weeks building a bunch of CNC projects to sell.

Great video! Thanks for sharing.
CNC did a great job (and it had no reaction). Human contributed good paint and wonderful sanding job. Fun to watch.
+SuperYtviewer The CNC did a great job cutting out what the human designed and programmed into it. Thanks for watching!
Just WOW - Great Job
Thank you very much, and thank you for your support!
thanks for you...it´s video is very good. from Spain, thanks.
Awesome video, looking for more CNC projects for our router attachment on the plasma table.
Good job
Very nice, but I have a couple of suggestions. Before carving your project, put some contact paper on it. You carve right through the contact paper and then paint it. After the paint dries - peel off the contact paper and you won't have to do all that sanding to remove the paint. I use shelf liner and it works great! Also I noticed that you have your left hand very close to the edge of the wood when you are nailing on the edge. If a nail happens to turn and come up through the top of the wood, it would go right into your hand. Keep your hand back far enough so that won't happen.
Thank you for the advice. I've thought about that idea before but was worried about gumming up the bits. I will definitely have to give it a try. Thanks too for the nail gun advice but I was using very short brads.
You're welcome. I've never had a problem with it gumming up my bits. Even though you were using short nails, it's always good practice to keep your hands back. You never know when someone may watch your video and do what you did and get a nail in the hand...
@@FunWithWoodworking Contact paper is for amateurs and doesn't work nearly as well paint mask. You'll get a much crisper edge. A lot of guys I've talked to have had problems using contact paper. You can get paint mask from any sign supply outfit or even a sign shop would sell you smaller quantities. My favorite is Avery paint mask but a lot of guys like Mac Tac as well.
Good luck with the show! Very nice pieces.
+Steve SteveS Thank you!
What kind of spray paint is used to fill out the recessed area?
Great work! Im new to cnc, just purchased the 750mm xcarve unit recently. Thanks for the time you put into this video. It is great for ideas and methods on signs!
Also, 8:03 - "FOR THE HORDE!"
Thanks! I'm glad somebody finally recognized it.
Bravo!
Thanks!
Awesome work! I love the stormtrooper. What bits did you use for that? I’m trying an 1/8 for roughing and 15 degree engraver for detail and it looks like it’s gonna take 3 hours which seems like too long for this sort of project
I'm curious about what stain you used on the "cruise to the pines" board. Thanks
It was medium walnut danish oil.
What size and type of bit do u use?
Nice
How do you price these projects?
So.. For the Storm Trooper example...
How do you properly sell that and skirt Trade Mark and all that jazz?
Or do you just produce and sell till you receive a C&D?
This was a one off sale. I didn't sell much and haven't had a booth since this video was made. I still have the Storm Trooper piece hanging on the wall in my office.
what are you making your svg files with......im new to this but I have an xcarve 1000mmx1000mm
Half I make with Adobe Illustrator and the simple ones I use the import tool in the free Easel software on the Inventables website.
I'm building a cnc now. Do you think you could put a thin board over your work to save cleanup time? Just cut through it
That is a definite possibility. I am also going to try pre-masking it with some kind of tape.
I have the same sander ... i think its a bit weak whats your thoughts on it
I used it for 3 years with no complaints until the motor died. I just bought a DeWalt because the top grip part is smaller and fits my hands better.
Great job. What kind of finish do you use? Thanks
Thanks! The stuff that I wiped on was Danish Oil and the spray was either lacquer or water based polyurethane.
Great looking stuff!! If you want a little suggestion....I do about one show a month, and chalkboards are always my best seller. You can batch out about 4-5 in an hour, they cost maybe $2 to make, and are easy sells at $10-$15 (maybe more where you're located). Anywho, good luck!!
+Chad Tuggle Thanks, I will give that a try next time. This isn't your typical craft show. My booth is at a car show and they typically need different kind of stuff to catch their attention. What do you make the chalkboards out of?
I just make a simple pocket hole frame, usually about 18"x24". For the chalkboard part, I'll use tempered hardboard. I use a roller and paint it with one coat of flat black, then a coat of chalkboard paint, and a very light sanding afterward. I also make one that's a craftsman style frame, with a groove routed on the bottom ledge for a chalk holder. Women and teen girls tend to go crazy for chalkboards, especially if you do bright colored frames, I like to distress the paint jobs, also, it's popular right now.
+Chad Tuggle Awesome! Thank you sir. Would you mind if I make a video of that idea?
+FunWithWoodworking go for it!! I'm sure it'll be great!! an idea for you, if people wanted them customized, put their name in the frame with your cnc for special orders!
I have you have fun at the show :) those all looked like good pieces to me!
+Live Free and DIY Thank you!
New subscriber. Dig the Minitruckin piece and club signs. My good friend Smiley is in ///RA.
Awesome! I've been in the club for 15 years.
Good job with the projects. I suggest a drum sander instead of the orbital sander though😜
Professor 2.3 Cnc - Jet drum sander
A drum sander is on my list of wants once I get the room for it.
I was sold on Jet Drum sanders. Give them a look
What r u using to for a cutter and cost please
It is an x-carve by a company name Inventables. You can learn more here: www.inventables.com/technologies/x-carve?ref=fww
Do you have to play royalties when doing anything branded such as star wars items?
I don't actually sell them. They are more for display than anything else.
you look so familiar i was into mini trucking for a long time. where you an editor or photographer? I think i have seen you are heatwave in texas or something.
I run the online magazine TRUCKRUN dot NET and I shoot most of the photos for it. I am also a member of Relaxed Atmosphere so you most likely saw me at a show somewhere.
Man its a small world. In my previous life as a welder fabricator I built custom trucks form many years but have lost touch with many of my old friends from Negative Camber those were the good old days.
Have u ever tried using an airbrush for the lettering
No I have not. I do not have access to an air brush at this time. It may be something to try out though.
What kind of wood were you working with?
It is 3/4" knotty pine from Home Depot.
Would it be practical to remove a very small amount in a planer instead of the sanding? That might save quite a bit of labor.
I've never actually used a planer so I'm not sure how the smaller pieces would fare. I have a feeling that it would tear them up. Once I get one I will make sure to test it out. Thanks for the suggestion!
Small parts of the same thickness can be attached to a carrier with tape or a wedge based clamp.
I meant the smaller pieces that have been cut out with the CNC. Like the pieces of the air mask at the bottom of the Storm Trooper. They can take downward pressure but can break easily if you push on them sideways.
What kind of straight edge clamp was that?
It's one that I picked up at Harbor Freight.
Wonderful job! What bits did you use? I'd love to replicate some of the work you've done.
Thank you. My 2 main bits are a 1/2" straight cut and 1/16" upcut.
I'm still quite a beginner at CNC, do you have any tips or videos that could lead me in the right direction? I would love to make a sign for my school.
Start with small projects and use a slow cut speed with shallow passes. Once you get more comfortable with the process you can speed things up.
Nice job where do you get the 1/16 upcut bit and is it a 1/4 shank?
Thanks! I buy all my bits from the Inventables website. It is a 1/8" shank in 1/4" collet adapter.
that's awesome so much great signs on this great job how did you do at the sales
Thank you very much. It was a car show and people were not there for crafty stuff so I just did OK. I actually posted a video about it here: ua-cam.com/video/kNowaDsLb0A/v-deo.html
FunWithWoodworking thanks man cheers
Carshows are not the best, better to with the craft and arts shows.
Totally loving the cnc work.. well done, what spray paint do you use? seems to come off easily enough with the sander..
I use regular Rustoleum spray paint but I give the wood a coat of polyurethane before I paint it to plug up the pores. I get less bleeding of the black paint into the wood that way.
Good luck with the show. I'm doing one next weekend. My first one for wood.
+Making SawDust Thank you! I'm going to shoot some video while I am there and plan on doing a recap video later in the week. Good luck with yours too!
what size x-carve are you running?
I have the 1000 MM unit.
What is that liquid you apply to the wood
Medium Walnut Danish Oil.
FunWithWoodworking thanks for the repply, and the video, you gave me a lot of ideas
What type of stain are you using on minute 5:30
It's Rustoleum Gloss Black Spray Paint
Well done! I gotta have that Hordes sign
+Hussein I still have it. Message me.
very impressive. i have worked with cnc for 4 years. so far most of projects are just cutting by customer's order. your video is just what i'm looking for. i will subscribe you. thanks a lot.
Thank you.
what is the sign of 8:03 from?
It is the symbol for the HORDE from the video game World of Warcraft.
Just found your site.Nice work I also have a CNC (Shapeoko 3) and this will be my first year at my craft shows. We do about 8 Xmas shows so glad to see you so motivated. Hope to steal your ideas and make a million dollars. Just kidding!! You make me want to get out to the shop and go to work. You show it's not the tools you have but the desire to make. GOOD LUCK
Thank you!
exelentes
great work , where can i get a straight edge clamp like that?
Thank you. I bought mine at Harbor Freight tools.
Why not use a planer to take the bulk of the paint off. Just wondering for my own knowledge
Two main reasons. 1: From everything that I have heard, paint is really hard on the planer blades. 2: I do not own a planer.
Nice work...what brand of CNC do you use?
+Frank G It is an x-carve from Inventables.com
What range of prices to these projects sell for? Great job!
Ted Spitulski I would charge by the square foot based on price of material and time to finish. Let’s say something was 1 square foot and took me (me not the CNC) 30 minutes to finish. You have to decide what you’re time is worth. Let’s say you decide $20 an hour. Pretend the material is $5 a square foot. I would double the price of the material and add about an extra 20% for consumables like paint and bits and such then add my time price. So double the material gets you $10 plus the 20% so $12 then add my 30 minutes worth of time in this case $10 so $22 sale price. I would probably just round that up to $25. I hope that explained it well any questions just ask. Also this is how I do it doesn’t mean everyone would be the same.
Nice work, hope it goes well for you at the show. Take Care, Barry (from England)
+Barry Roberts Thanks!
Do you need to get licensing to use these logos to sell?
if it's a trademarked item, like the storm trooper, YES. This video is not good encouraging people to use trademarked items. You can get sued for millions. Sad people are okay with this.
Nice video. Where did you get your cnc machine from?
It's an x-carve made by the company Inventables. You can see more about it here: www.inventables.com/technologies/x-carve?ref=fww
FunWithWoodworking did you stick with all the basics or did you go all out? I'm checking out the website now and I like the monthly payment plan. But it would be nice to see pictures of what there talking about on each subject..
I got everything but the but the homing button and z probe, but they sponsored me on the machine. The link that I gave you is an affiliate link.
What kind of cnc machine you have?
I have an x-carve made by the company Inventables.
Can’t wait until the wood burning Gad goes away. Seems so much red Necky to me.
Considering the fact that I made this video 3 years ago, I don't see it ending anytime soon.
You need a planer! 😀
+Dan Prudlow I agree!
sorry for the horrible noise (music ?)
