You must try the spicy shawarma at "Hot burger" and also the shawarma at any "Eat and drink" restaurant. Imo Barbar is becoming undisputed #1. Much better quality of meat than Laffah which is getting oily and dry with time.
Very good video showing the best of the best shawarma in Dubai. Just missing Belad Al Sham. And my favourite are Aroos Damascus and Allo Beirut Saj shawarma.

I lived in Dubai from the 70's to the 90's and loved the shawarma there. I just got back from Dubai 2023 and sorry to say I tried loads of them and NOT ONE came close to what they where like back then. No shawarma had chips in it ,the bread is different, spices different etc. Its a shame modernisation is not always a good thing. I actually couldn't even finish one as was so disappointed. Tried so hard to find an original one but no joy.
Yeah, I grew up there till 2017, came back in 2019, and was thoroughly disappointed. Everyone is just riding on the global fame of the shawarma now unfortunately. The OGs are gone.
The old joints from 80s are still there, Al Mallah, Aroos Damascus, Automatic, not sure if they taste the same though. The problem is many places are doing fusion now ruining the original taste
I know exactly what you mean by original shawarma. Being born and brought up here I am so disappointed with the variations you get in shawarma that I had completely stopped eating until last year I found a cafeteria just outside Naif souq called Anas Cafeteria that sells the exact same shawarma from the 80s. The moment I took the first bite, it was like a wave of childhood memories came rushing back to me. Same flavour and no fries in it. So do try their shawarma if you get the chance.

What you said is very true. I can't disagree.
My love affair with the humble shawarma started when I moved to Dubai 20 years back and I am still here. But I have to admit when I travelled to Jordan and Lebanon, the shawarma there were at a completely different level (Arabic food in general, even falafels). I can only imagine how good the shawarmas might be in Syria (considering how good the Aroos Damascus Shawarma is here in Dubai) or Palestine (Mamaesh in Dubai is amazing as well). I wish I get to have them someday.

You should try one of the oldest shawarma places in Deira. I see it as the best in the Deira area. Al furat restaurant near fish round about.

Nothing is so-called Arabic shawarma or Arabic food. Shawarma is mostly Lebanese and they made it famous in the middle east and all over the world.
Am I the only who thinks that all shawarmas are the same? Because nothing could beat the taste of it. I wanna eat in all of these restaurants whether if it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner, the taste is one of the most satisfying than any other food.
They are not same. Some are bad, some are great
