    Short and sweet. Makes me really wish I had stopped to pick up the vacuum I saw sitting on the curb a week ago.

    Set up one at every water outlet in your house to charge up a battery. Get something back. Or a dozen mini wind turbines on your roof.
    I actually searched for this content, thanks.

    That's a cool project. I live in a sunny place. What I've been yearning for is outdoor clothes tumbler/ dryer. Something like the tumbler cage used for lottery tickets. Something the sun can shine on as it's turning and tumbling my clothes. It could just use a small electric motor to turn it. I would plug it in.

    Does the motor have a magnet in it? Otherwise, would seem you had to add power to the coils and yes, I do not know much about them.. : )

    • @ThinkingandTinkering
      @ThinkingandTinkering  3 роки тому +3

      no mate it doesn't - it uses the remnace of the magnetic field already in the rotor - it is a bit like an alternator - so a feed back of a starter current would help but isn't strictly necessary

      I was wondering the same thing. Robert has answered. I think permanent magnet motors are more efficient.

    Would this vacuum motor be a better generator than the original motor that powered the fan?

  • @WileHeCoyote

    Simple and Brilliant yet again Rob! what's better for a ratio change from the roll cage to the motor? : direct drive gears or tiny Chinese scooter chain and 2 sprockets? is there a downside to either that im not thinking of, apart from chain being easier to tension, than the motor/gear being positioned. clutching would also be easier with chain/sprocket, but is that even necesarry on this style of windmill? whats the best circuitry for converting the large range of voltages output at the different wind speeds to the one way diode for connecting to a battery bank? (these are more public food for thought than anything i need answered) lol

      That's what everybody asks looking at my windmill. I wonder if quantifying electricity is within everybody's understanding.

    *DEAR ROBERT*
    Do you know the new propulsion system for jetoptera aircraft? It is based on the same principle as dyson vacuum cleaners, and in theory they are 15 times more efficient than a blade vacuum cleaner, I wonder if that process could be reversed and use the air using projected on a dyson profile and that this was 15 times more efficient to generate electricity

  • @peerperemans897
    @peerperemans897 Рік тому

    Since it has no permanent magnets...does it simply start on some remanent magnetism left in the mild steel cores and sweep up from there? Must be...
    Since so many ebikes become ewaste I used a direct drive type, alu blades cut from irigation pipe pop-rivetted straight to the rim and the hub, spokes all still in place. Been running for more the 10 years now. Needs furling, limiting, static balancing and a rectifier but fun!

    For me the issue with renewable power is the storage of energy. So my goal is always to pump water up hill, to use its potential when other sources are unavailable. If you get a bit of time could you help me with that.

      Water hammer pump. It will take 10% of the original water supply and pump it uphill. It will even pump vertically.
      And yeah it requires no electronics. Very Very easy to make.

      I m thinking of a pumped hydro system, with a large storage tank at the bottom of my property, and a large storage at the top. Like 140 ft differential. I do not have access to The type of stream required for the water hammer. Wish I did.

    Did you ask yourself why it's a generator ? It's not so obvious. Remember there's no permanent magnet in there no' re is there initial current there to turn either stator or rotor into an electromagnet. Why does it start generating without magnetic field in the first place ? It actually starts due to earth magnetic field. In theory it should start with reverse polarity if you rotate it 180 degree. I never tried that but you might.
    Anyway, it's a series motor. Generation will depend on magnetic field generated, so current, so the electrical load you connect. Your multimeter 'll be 10 Mohms or so and that's a very small load. If you connect a 200 ohm/100W load or so I think it will produce serious power at high RPM.

    I really really hope your not that comforatable with fine dust particles from a vacuum. I despise the inhalation hazards of anything that comes from a used old vacuum. Masks for this are more needed than covid IMO.
