Coolest thing was listening to the truck start and not hearing a single buzzer going from having low air. You obviously did a phenomenal job on making sure the old lines were fixed. Perfect.
Man I can’t believe how far the truck has come, most people start something like this and never get this far either do to money or time, 45 episodes and 2 hunts and I loved every minute of them.
Do the body work yourself.... buy a decent spray gun, use base coat/clear coat paint. You have shown the ability to do some great mechanical/detail work on getting it back on the road. All the money you save on doing the work yourself you can put towards some other goodies for the truck. Just my two bits. And besides....you can use these new skills on your new resto project, down the line.....
I've watched right from the time you picked this truck up all the way to this video now .....and oh my gosh... beautiful job you have blown me away on everything so far you have done to her.. I agree with you on restoring it yourself.. you take more pride in doing it and seeing it after everything is done. Accomplishment for every bit you do on her.. you got yourself a beautiful machine there .. can't wait to see all the other fun things you plan to do with her .. Love to follow along every step of the way... sad to see her sitting in that field when you first found her..... but now i'm happy you have her and are restoring her .. By the way i'm a fellow Canadian in Ontario .. I can't wait to see what else you have in store .. thank you so much for bringing us along with you on this beautiful trucks restoration ... I'd love to own one of them they are such beautiful machines , just a tad expensive for me at the moment.. There is actually one for sale now on Facebook's marketplace in Tottenham Ontario that is almost identical to the one that you are fixing up right now for $52,700 price neg, it's a 1983 Pete 359 Motivated seller it says . complete engine rebuild at 40,000 Miles . 400 Cummins, 13 SP, 370 rear end, 24.5 inch tires, Suspension, brakes, drive train all good.... Frame not cracked here is the listing for it . facebook.com/marketplace/item/479729679478772/ I'd buy it if i could but sadly i can't Just wanted to throw that info your way on a truck that's for sale here if you are interested its on Facebook 's Marketplace here in Ontario.. Anyway keep up the great video's my friend love it all ! i love big rigs . I'm so glad you are finding them and getting them back on the road! they deserve to be driven not left to sit and rot away in a field . You have me as a subscriber !!
Enceladus Fox that’s a nice Pete but I bet you could find a great 359 fixer upper under $10k if you put a want ad on Kijiji then you could slowly pick away at it as you find the time and the $$$
You have done a great job. BTW the mud flaps on the front of your running boards behind the hood, the Pete logo should face to the rear like the rest of the mud flaps.
You should be proud as a peacock my friend. To rescue this old girl, show it the love and respect it deserves is truly a blessing for the Rig as well as yourself. You know they say a boat is a hole in the water you just throw money into, the people who say that have never gotten bitten by the Big Rig bug... (Oh and a heat gun on any sticker or decal is magic as far as making them easy to remove, then your contact cleaner to remove any of the left over stick'em on parts it won't eat into the paint or melt generally safe though I use it on PCBs all the time)... EDIT: Sorry for the edit but I just spent half a day watching every episode and I stand by my above statement. Truly happy you were the one to rescue this ole'girl, many a lesser man would have walked away when they saw that diff...
Not rushing to get another project will allow you to use the Columbus method....Find it and Land IT. That will be the perfect truck. You have done a great job. Love this series!
price on big truck parts can certainly be a shock to people. but even if you end up with 40-50k in it done a lot of people will spend that on a pickup these days. i am hoping to take a week or two off work around January to knock the body work/paint out on mine all in one shot and get it over with....lol i don't like body work but the end results can be very satisfying.
Im with ya, paining a big truck sucks, and a pete or KW are the worst, the rivets are a bitch to prep. I would love to paint my rv puller (2011 T660) as it needs it baaad, but I have done a few so Im wise to the amount of time / money it takes to do it...
I do enjoy watching your videos, you don't make me cringe that much. I drove a lot of old Pete's. My first was a 72 with a 6x4 and a 3406 with a double frame. I had a red 79 wirh a 15 with deep reducction and a 400 cummins. Lots of them, but kw is my favorite. I drove lots of those too, and my favorite was a 95 with the big dash
Lol people forget your in Canada. Just below 0 to you is just below 32 degrees in America. Celcius 0 is 32 Fahrenheit. Being as your from up north and all. Just good for a chuckle. That's warm for up there this late in the year. Lol
This semi has come so far! I love it I’ve been watching 5 episodes a day to catch up. I’ve never known much about semis but I’ve learned lots from this. Keep it up little by little!
Such an awesome truck. Love to see how you transformed it. Seen an old kenworth yesterday that from the back and side looked about like the Smokey and the Bandit truck. But once I got past it I noticed the square headlights. They had a peace of diamond plate over the opening for a sleeper to make it a day cab.
Looking better and better each time I watch a new video. Definitely a labor of love! I myself recently let my lowered Blazer go after my mom passed away. I became stuck in a rotten cycle so ended up trading it off to a good home for an LT1 powered Buick wagon. Not exactly regretting it but realizing that this car is alot more harder to come by in parts. Might end up with another S10 in the future. I can't seem to stay away from them for long.
Thank you for all your videos, so nice not to have someone shouting and jumping around all the time and just do a fantastic job 👍 Well done sir you inspire us all.
Also, i always hated air Windows, cant ever just roll them down a crack, like 6 inches at a time. In the narrow cab trucks, you can lean over while driving and crack the window easy
I had a Trans Star the heater core was packed full from smoking in the truck until it could not blow air through it. Cleaned it out, was like mud however I had a good heater after doing that.
I use stainless fasteners alot in my work and that advice was spot on. They are a pain to work with and are also harsh on the skin...I think it maybe the nickle in it. Doesn't effect all people but be aware.
Has any one told what the third brake valve is for? That is for trailers without parking brakes. you hook up the trailer supply apply the valve to lock the brakes so you can back under. Instead of pulling the trolly valve lever. Another thing working on the body, only work on it at temp's above 21 c. that way thing's don't harden to fast for you. If your going to do your own painting do it above 27 c.
You did an amazing job. I don`t know much about trucks but is a pleasure to watch you . If you want to tackle the bodywork, the secret is taking your time, not rushing anything especially when you are finishing the surfaces. Also, you will want to remove as many parts as you can (lights, trims, doors etc) so you can have a factory finish (no over spray, no corners where you were not able to reach etc). PS: i hate those battery boxes and the mud flaps you put on. If i were you i would have moved the battery boxes somewhere else and picked another option for the footsteps
After all the work you have done in the Pete you will definitely be able too sort the paint work out fella you’re more than capable 👍👍 glad you’re back on the Pete good luck mate. Regards from south London England 🏴
O.K. couple of quick tips, with the side box aluminum diamond plate (S.O.S. pads and warm water), (I kid you not) there is something in the S.O.S. pads soap that just makes the aluminum gleam, so before going to town with the polishing pads and compound try the S.O.S. pads and warm water first. Yup, a bit of elbow grease (but your use to that). The bit with the stainless steel nuts and bolts is this the stainless steel nuts will "work harden" when you use a power or air tool to tighten them up. The copper coat allows you to tighten them up without the excessive heat causing the work hardening effect. She's looking great Sir, keep your shoulder into it! Cheers
The big things really show a lot of progress at once, but it's the little things, like the sound-deadening in the doors that you appreciate just as much I think. Yeah, all the brackets, harnesses and such that rattle should be easy enough to secure, and when you get it on the road it will be a nicer, quieter ride, especially if it's going to be a family kind of rig.
I like the under carrage lights. They add and I would think and hope that they would make it easier for you to get up and into the truck at night when it's dark and even get out.
awesome channel, just started my project a 94 T800 kw ..your video help with some inspiration , keep up the great work, ....now to coax the wife into another project soon,
I think you got your money's worth from that jacket @ 8:45! LOL! But hey, you are like me, I'm squeezing every last bit of wear out of mine too! It's just as ripped up. Great work on the truck, I'm really enjoying the seeing it come back from the dead.
Oh man battery box mud flaps the logo goes to the back all the mud flap logos to the back. Good job there bud I’m impressed and a little jealous. I’m a retired truck driver owner operator.
I appreciate letting us know a bit of what to expect on pricing. Gives me some hope I can find something with my $12k budget. Of course Way more while restoring it but have to start with something.
Why is applying anti-seize so satisfying? Bodywork ain't nuthin' but a thing, you'll pick it up. I'd pick up a pressure pot blaster and blast the body and frame with crushed walnut shells. Chemical stripping is nasty, messy and it burns. Love the Petes!
The stainless steel nut and bolt problem is known as "galling", usually caused by identical grades of stainless material used in the nut and bolt, I use dissimilar grades if at all possible or indeed available, if I can't find different grades I either soak the fastenings in light oil before use, or as you have done dab them with anti seize compound. I only ever use stainless steel fastenings in light duty & cosmetic applications and I think that's a good rule of thumb to work to, she's coming along well now. Greetings from the UK 👍
In your rundown your forgot to mention you need space for something like this. Its been a fun series to watch and i really appreciate you documenting this for those of us who want to live vicariously. All that said I think not buying the green truck from a few episodes ago was a missed opportunity!
I know your not over the road driver, so your not going to be in and out in the dark of nite, but those lites u took off were a very useful thing because they lite up the steps so you could get in and out safely¡ Also just nice to have lites on the truck! In the end of course it's up to u but like said there a safety kinda thing, don't get me wrong u most likely don't needs by law, looks great o and the roof problem, just put a big sun roof in , I had 1 in a fright liner and I luved it to death ! So yeah may be u can get get smaller newer, LEDs and move them forward tord the windshield and put sun roof where hole is your goin to cut a hole so fill it with a window ! Keep keeping on :)
I mess with old cars and trucks and i tend to drag home the worst, rustiest examples of them. Yeah, i could of bought two shinny 68-72 novas for what i have in fixing my rusted heap... same with my chevelles, maybe not my GTO but you get the idea. Point is....we dont do this for financial gain... we do it for the love of the hobby. Also you know what you have when your done. You dont really know what your getting if you get someone else's done project. Lots of stuff could be hidden. Id rather start with something I know is garbage and make it good again. Keep up the good work....i find myself looking at these old rigs at the auctions now that ive been watching your channel... not sure how it is up north but down here in the south you can get a worn out running rig at auction for 2-3k. Very tempting haha
Great video again 😊 I work with stainless a lot and it’s very common that bolts will lock up so deffo put plenty lubrication on them 👍🏼 also if your using stainless bolt with any other types of metal u should put a price of tethlon or rubber between them or the stainless will start eating the other metal very quickly
When you start polishing try to knock off some of the heavy oxidation with some polish. I did some of my truck with and without and it was easier with the grinder when I cleaned it up before
Diggin the project! One thing I will say is you'll lose those mudflaps quickly if you don't run a flat strap along the bolt line or at least some fender washers.
Nice you at home tucked away in your garage away from bad eyes working on your own truck in your own time saving a bunch of money and gaining a lot of experience now that's the life
As someone who restores trucks and does primarily paint and body work, I suggest buying a book at watching some tutorials on basic body work and block sanding. Once you get that down you’ll be ready to spray some high build primer. As for the paint job....pay someone. You’ve spent too much time meticulously going through the truck to put a back yard paint job on it. If you have questions or need any advice, feel free to message me! Good luck and keep up the good work.
Dave A ya I think you’re right ... I’ll try and do as much prep as I can then maybe find someone who knows what they’re doing to come out and spray the shine👍
The stainless hardware does gull if you not careful. The reason is the threads can not be cut smooth and they grip each other and gull like crazy, the anti seize allows them to slip easier. A tip, your little high speed grinder, they spin to fast for drill bits causing them to die faster. Place a screwdriver between the handle and the trigger then it slows the speed and saves the drill bit.
Watched every episode since beginning really love this, only thing you did that i would of kept on was the running lights, id also put them on the back of sleeper and across the front bumber but it still looks great!
Hey buddy she keeps looking sharper an sharper glad you went with the angle stainless for side running lights I hope you reinstall the old one on the back the sleeper or one each side of the stacks just one upgrade use some led lights keep on truck,n twin sticks MCL from steveO Australia
Love the videos I got a 90 w900 I'm going to start working on some day just trying to gather some parts up first I'm going to do the same thing with mine cruise it around and pull my camper with it I'm going to make a wrap around Couch in the bunk for the kids to sit on and ride
like drywall, go slow and don't be afraid to mud it again, mud/sand, mud/sand mud/sand until its smoother than a babes arse! Replace mud with filler of course!
Man, I wish that lived closer then Nova Scotia where I live....I would come by on the weekends and do the body work for you. Anyway, keep up the great videos.
Great episode! Tech tip go to the dollar store and pick up a bunch of tin foil, when you paint the motor you can wrap your rubber hoses and cables with it for masking. Works great and comes off easy.
I never considered that but it's genius. I have black Jeep Grand Cherokee that I've Plasti Dipped the chrome and wheels on and foil would work so much better in some hard to mask places like the grill inserts and around the brake parts etc. I'll definitely take this advice when it comes to time to touch to do touch ups in the Spring.
I think instead of another project truck, you should think about getting a lowboy trailer. Then you can retrieve your next project on your own. Great video as always
So basically take what you'd spent on a normal car restoration and multiply it by 3. Because the parts are twice as much and you'll probably need %50 more of them than on a normal car. i'll definitely stick to my square body Chevy trucks and my 57 Chevy sedan. Not to mention the additional specialty tools you'd need for the giant stuff. massive sockets, torque multipliers, etc. I love watching this series but it's certainly driven home the fact that such a project is NOT for me, lol.
the torque multiplier episode was one of the best episodes and the most cringe worthy when you think about all the force being applied. that episode and any time you caged the breaks made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
Not hard to polish the stainless steel can take a fair amount of heat, the aluminium will get burn marks if you get to much heat. I use my 7" grinder on my stainless but get better results using my buffer set at 3200 rpm on my aluminium.
👍👌👏 Congrats, congrats, congrats maaan! To finish this great old truck completely before looking for a new project is definitely the best and right decision! Good progress is shown again in this video. I absolutely think that the insulation job on/in the door couldn't be done any better than you did. Please allow me to ask why you added mud flaps on the step boxes? Is this a pure cosmetic thing or are they really useful? I'm not able to see any turn signals on the front respectively front sides of the truck? Maybe you replaced the old ones with tiny little LED lights or aren't there any (yet)? I agree! Some gravel would be nice and really helpful keeping that old girl clean, nice and shiny. Maybe you will have some kind of a big car port to keep her out of the weather in the future?! Or let me better say: a truck port!? Thanks a lot for making taping editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health.
The flaps on the boxes help keep rocks from hitting and pitting the polished tanks. Probably didn’t need the ones in the front but there was already holes as the previous owner had them there and I kind of like the look ... similar to @outtaworkbum on Instagram 👍
Dear@@TwinStixguy. Thanks for replying. Ah, O.K. now I see. Yeah, and it definitely looks good. 2) Thanks for the link. But I absolutely don't use Instagram, Twitter or Facebook. Have never and will never (big brother is watching you!)! I'm already addicted to UA-cam, Google and WhatsApp and that's more than enough already. 3) Front turn signals? 4) I suspect that front brakes will be added after you have found payable parts!? Have a nice day. Sincerely yours.
I've never watched 45 episodes of anything but this
Shiloh Store lol. Ya same!
Emil Schultz it’s easy to get caught up watching your videos too. 😂
i have watched all 45 as well, just as good as a netflix series!
Dave A lol well thank you 🙏
He’s destined to find a COE truck

I'm no truck lover but i really enjoy watching all 45 episodes, great job and lot of patience, thumbs up for all!
Always a pleasure to have a new video. Your attention to detail is very educational and I hope you continue to teach and inspire with new projects.
Hello from Jamaica

Looking good TwinSticks, Looking good.
Thanks for sharing this update. Great work as always.
Awesome job. Very inspiring to watch your videos! Keep it up!
And the flooring you did mate that's a great job well done
It seems any amount of dirt on the stainless threads and they're done , locked up. You've done a great job of making the old girl look pretty!

It's not that cold it's only just below zero 😆 I'm in North Carolina that's cold as heck. Sweet video as always.
Up in Canada 0 degrees is 32 degrees down in the states.
Frickin canaderps use the commie measurements ehhh
Daniel Lenon exactly lol. I'm in Raleigh. Below zero and you will never see me lol

Beautiful truck
In your rundown your forgot to mention you need space for something like this. Its been a fun series to watch and i really appreciate you documenting this for those of us who want to live vicariously.
All that said I think not buying the green truck from a few episodes ago was a missed opportunity!
Stephen Gordon ya I made an offer on it but the owner passed ... It was a cool truck but I’m really looking for a 900a with a sleeper👍
Awesome truck man love the videos
Looks awesome great job on the old Pete
Expensive yes, but look at what you have got, fantastic. Great job man.
When you start polishing try to knock off some of the heavy oxidation with some polish. I did some of my truck with and without and it was easier with the grinder when I cleaned it up before
Diggin the project! One thing I will say is you'll lose those mudflaps quickly if you don't run a flat strap along the bolt line or at least some fender washers.
glad u got Waylon back on the radio....
Great job. Et is a good idea to put plastic washers with stenless steel bolts to stop the aluminum react . Greeting from New Zealand
Well done your getting down to the little stuff now
The stainless hardware does gull if you not careful.
Loving ur little by little show all the way from MAURITIUS keep it man
Nice work like your frame of mind just keep at it.
Watched every episode since beginning really love this, only thing you did that i would of kept on was the running lights, id also put them on the back of sleeper and across the front bumber but it still looks great!
Jeffrey Houghland planning on going with blue backlit underneath can and sleeper
Body work isn't really hard. It just takes time, an eye for detail and dedication. You got this!
like drywall, go slow and don't be afraid to mud it again, mud/sand, mud/sand mud/sand until its smoother than a babes arse! Replace mud with filler of course!
Channel keeps getting better, whatever this truck cost you will be well worth. Next build might even be on youtubes dime!$$
Man, I wish that lived closer then Nova Scotia where I live....I would come by on the weekends and do the body work for you. Anyway, keep up the great videos.
Very nice truck!!! 👍👍
Ya it does add up quick, my trucks only a 2014 and ive put out 12k in repairs in 6 months....and the safeties comming up in december
Works great for the chassis too. Makes masking airbags a breeze!
Great video as always
You're doing a great job. Keep it up
Man she’s come a long way
I think instead of another project truck, you should think about getting a lowboy trailer. Then you can retrieve your next project on your own. Great video as always
Truck looks great!!
Man clean Pete love the Waylon sticker on back and love me some Waylon Jennings
Keep up the great work!
Nickel base anti-seize, is better. closer on the noble metal table, than copper. Less corrosion.
Cheers
Steel wool worked great to make the chrome on my bike shine
Not hard to polish the stainless steel can take a fair amount of heat, the aluminium will get burn marks if you get to much heat. I use my 7" grinder on my stainless but get better results using my buffer set at 3200 rpm on my aluminium.
AWESOME Sir !!!🙌🏼🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼👍🏼💯❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼
👍👍 nice looking Pete.
Sincerely yours.
true statement about lubing S/S nut bolts. i learned the hard way
I think you should add fender mounted blinkers and the lights on the fenders.
Jefferson Lobbs ya I might ... noticed ezrider found some classics rounds that are LED from Dirks that I might pick up
TwinStick Garage awesome! Can’t wait to see that w900A as well!!!! Gonna be great
