If it hadn't been abandoned in 1981 Silver Buck would have become the first ever triple king George winner. In 1982 he finished third going for the treble behind stablemate wayward lad but was later found to be carrying an infection which explained his defeat. So good was silver buck that when Dickinson trained the first five home in the 1983 gold cup Micheal Dickinson said he was really grateful for the kind congratulatory words of Christine feather, the owner of silver buck, when he said she could have been very upset with the trainer for not having her horse fit and well enough to do himself justice as he was the best horse he had and the best horse in the race. Would have loved to see him win several gold cups. His race record was exceptional. I still recall seeing him come back at Willie wumpkins in a hurdle race at Leicester where he led at the last but not wanting to do more than necessary got caught half way up the run in only to come back and put his head in Front before the line. His race with night nurse must be one of if not the best ever and he downed Burrough hill lad at haydock giving him 24lbs and a good beating. A true champion that isn't recognised for being how good he was, which was exceptional and I don't know why he doesn't have a massive timeform and handicap rating as he was head and shoulders above his contempories for several seasons over any distance from 2 1/2 miles upwards.
@@rayduck9175 no he didn't. It was an accident where he ran into a wall after being spooked by the sound of the waterproofs crackling after being readied for work. Graham Bradley was on his back, one of the worst things he ever did.
Think it was 21lb. But your right he was the Champ ,my top chaser of all time.he didn.t just beat Burrough hill lad, he dissected and autopsied him on the bit. A true superstar.
So great to see Silver Buck, only recently learnt more about his fantastic record. Why haven't Haydock got something to comemorate his 4 wins in the Edward Hamner Memorial Chase?
Silver Buck was always a very nervous horse. In a rainstorm at the Dickinson's, Graham Bradley put on a pair of waterproof trousers. As he vaulted back onto Silver Buck, the horse bolted, unshipped Bradley and galloped into a wall. They tried to save him but he died of his injuries a few hours later.
It was either 78 or 79 that Carigeen hill win like 9 in a row ( I never noticed that they were all before the end of October 😀) next time I seen the horse was in a race like this at 20/1 … I thought everyone was blind 😅.. turned out it was me as it finished tailed off in soft ground , it had won 4 of the 9 as walk overs as it was a very dry start to the late summer , 4 others were won on going described as Hard !!.. 😅 👍🏴

Does any footage exist of Gay Spartan winning the 1978 King George? I don't think I have ever seen the race.
Silver Buck died aged 12. Was he retired by then or would he have raced the following season aged 12/13?
julzyboy1973 he sadly had a freak accident before going on the gallops. Broke his pelvis ☹️
@@iancruise6927 thanks for letting me know. If not for an abandoned meeting, he would have had three successive KGs
