  • Quick video of SDRTrunk scanning three trunking sites at the same time using two RTL-SDR dongles. The software uses playlists to set up what is recorded and what comes out the speakers. These are simulcast sites that most scanners have great difficulty with.
Unlike a scanner SDRTrunk will receive all traffic from a site that is within the bandwidth limit of the SDRs plugged in. You will notice that there are two voices at some times. One talkgroup on the right speaker and one on the left.
    Computer Setup
    Dell Optiplex
    Intel i5 3.2GHz
    4 GB Ram
    2 RTL SDR Dongles
    More SDRTrunk videos to come.

Does anyone know what file the programs saves your lists in? I spent hours building a nice very custom P25 list and was hoping to be able to copy or export the save and put it on another computer.

Go into the Playlist editor and it will show you in the Playlists tab were the file is. You can even clone the file to a new location here.

My question is, what antenna? These simulcast systems, do we need an omnidirectional antenna or can we get one with some gain and point it an one station?

These videos are using Omni antennas, but yes if the system is far away you can use a directional, but it is not required.

what do i need to do this? will an airspy R2 do the trick or is that overkill? i've used other rtl-sdrs, sdr play, etc and own several sds100/200s and want to step up my game but also want to make sure i buy the right stuff, thanks.

You really only need a RTL-SDR, then download the SDRTrunk software and you are ready to go.

@@RadioGeek the rtlsdr v3 suffered from severe overload and would drift off frequency.

The fake ones yes, there are several fakes online. All of my SDRs are running the RTL-SDR v3 with no issues, there is some drift but nothing to write home about.

@@RadioGeek interesting, i get bleed over from a Phase1, Phase2, and cell tower next door. and these were real rtl-sdr's V3 from their website. tech minds just released a vid on a 888 MK-IISDR that uses the 828D chip (not the D2). i'd like to find a site that talks about the differences between all these 5-7 year old chipsets that seem to be popping up in these late model SDRs.
