I have a problem with MHA that I only realized on my last watch through it.
My Hero has a problem with subtlty in that it never lets you actually interpret anything yourself aside from maybe during Deku and Bakugo's fight. I don't know if it's the same in the manga, but atleast in the anime, it explains everything it brings up whether or not it would be better to leave it up to viewer interpretation. It didn't even give us a full episode to believe that Hawks might be a bad guy. Within minutes of it showing that to us, they explain why he's there in great detail.
I had so many times in the show where they would bring something up and I would pause to try and put together my own idea of why it's that way, then within seconds it would explain exactly what I was thinking of. Alternatively, it would explain something in a way that just makes no sense whatsoever, though this didn't happen much.
I just wish that MHA would be a little more subtle with some of it's messages and would leave some of its ideas up for interpretation.

Although I haven't had much exposure to MHA, from what I have had the chance to see, I can tell it doesn't even hold a candle to some of the late Shonen classics.

Man, your opinions really made me think more deeply about why I'm struggling to keep reading this manga lol, especially the part where you said this manga just adds drama for drama's sake, and that has been very evident in the past year.
What makes MHA popular initially has always been the development of Deku and his classmates, like just students having goals, trying to improve, and just enjoying their school life with some romance here and there, something we can all relate too. But that's all gone now, now it's a different manga. Nonetheless, I do know people who enjoys it a lot now so I would say this is just my opinion.
Anyways, what gives me the biggest turnoff in this whole series is not Deku or whatever, it is Shigaraki. If you're talking about development, he has the worst development out of all and doesn't deserve to be as OP as he is.
First of all, he has very bad daddy issues, he grew up lacking proper parenting, got manipulated by a bad person, and ends up with a lot of anger. It's unrealistic that he did not get any help or ends up the way that he is in a developed society like in MHA. (I totally bet in the end Deku will just make friends with him, he realizes friendship is good, and then turn on AFO.)
Then later, other villains just looks up to him for some reason, offer him unconditional support, and made him the strongest power in the series. Shigaraki, throughout the series did not show anyone that he is a good fighter, he is not skilled, he didn't work hard, yet he was given his powers and following.
It's just pains me to see Shigaraki got powerful so quickly and get so much support while never actually doing anything (apart from having daddy issues). Like just one or two arc ago, his team was basically in poverty.

Honestly, It's interesting to see how MHA has evolved for the worst, and regarding Shigaraki ~ While I have my own appreciation for the character, I can also see his rushed and underdeveloped character arc. The destruction he caused in the city and his evolution into "destruction for all" were both standout moments in the manga for me, but I agree that his backstory deserved more attention to fully grasp his motivations and upbringing. The swift accumulation of his power during the Re-Destro arc felt awful and was super unsatisfying, and the as you said all the support he got from all the other villains seemed forced as it happened so quickly. It's truly a disappointment to witness all the missed opportunities in this story and all the wasted potential for deeper exploration of characters and growth.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts btw, and I appreciate you watching the video 🤍

14:33 - 14:50 This statement summarized perfectly how little you know about the manga industry. You think Horikoshi has the time to just “step back”? You’re funny.
I actually agree with you, the manga does feel rushed. You know why? Cause after working on this series for almost 9 years straight, Horikoshi is about to lose his arms. If the dude is going to step back, it’s because he needs a god damn surgery after all this abuse Shonen Jump has pushed on him. He’ll probably end up like the Mangaka of Hunter X Hunter after all this.
Personally, I find it hard to criticize the series, even though most of your points are valid, because it stems from issues beyond his control. He’s not a bad author / writer, he’s just desperate to keep his arms.

I don't have anything against you, but I do find it somewhat frustrating how most people tend to perceive things on the surface level. When I suggested that he should take a step back, I had prefaced it by saying "if possible." By "taking a step back," I didn't mean it in a literal sense, but rather in a figurative sense applicable to any creative industry, such as writing, manga creation, design, directing, and so on. I comprehend how these processes function, and what I was implying was that, once again, "if possible," he should take a mental and creative step back to re-evaluate the direction of his manga. This would involve identifying possible changes that could address the issues with the story and plot. Personally, I believe it may be too late and that the course for My Hero Academia has already been set.
      Thanks for watching :)

@@removedm I’m gonna start by apologizing for being so harsh in my previous comment. This is a very sensitive topic for me so I get easily aggravated when people bring up MHA’s quality being poor without discussing Horikoshi’s current health. Didn’t mean to snap at you, sorry.
About my response to your step back comment, I meant it in both a literal and creative sense. He cannot step back from his chair and take a break, nor can he step back and re-evaluate his series creatively.
Serious, honest to god, no insult intended question. Do you know what the work ethic for Shonen Jump Mangaka is? They work 12 hours a day, doing usually 18-20 pages weekly, typically skipping meals and only leaving their chairs for editor meetings for panel changes / future story beats or bathroom breaks, then getting maybe 6 hours of sleep if they’re lucky only to get up 5AM or some crazy time like that to do it over again tomorrow.
**Horikoshi has been doing this for almost 9 years straight.**
Shonen Jump is an abusive company, things like this are actually commonplace across Japan. As messed up as that sounds, it’s true. Feel free to do whatever research on this you want too, don’t just take or disregard my word and leave it at that. Google “MHA Author Health Problems” or “What’s working for Shonen Jump like?“ or whatever you want.
Like I said, I also don’t like how the IP is going, but I think that’s intentional. Horikoshi is trying to end his series as fast as possible so he doesn’t lose his freaking arms, and honestly, who can blame him if that’s the case? It’s unfortunately poetic, and I can’t help but think Deku not breaking his arms after the PLW Arc was his way of coping with his own situation.

No need to apologize, but I truly appreciate your understanding. You hit the nail on the head, and that's exactly why I prefaced my statement with "if possible." It's disheartening to acknowledge that most creative industries, be it fashion, design, the arts, animation, or even being a mangaka in this case, are plagued by toxicity and the suffocation of their talent.
It's almost ironic how the very industries that should foster creativity end up treating their creatives and workers as nothing more than disposable pawns. I empathize with Horikoshi and all the artists I follow and admire across various fields. It's undoubtedly tough for them, not because they intentionally make it that way, but due to the controlling powers above them who prioritize profit over everything else.
In an ideal world, once again emphasizing "if possible," it would be wonderful if Horikoshi could take a step back and reassess his approach to My Hero Academia. Sadly, it seems highly unlikely, and we are not fortunate enough to exist in a timeline where such changes occur.
It pains me to witness any creative individual having their work and passions dismantled by the greedy and abusive forces lurking above them. However, I understand that the vile nature of the industry is unfortunately an inherent aspect of it.
It's a shame because I genuinely enjoyed MHA, but I can't help but feel that it will never reach its full potential under these circumstances.
