Great story goes with this song. Both men recorded for RCA and Eddie just happened to be in the studio when Perry was recording an album that included this tune. Eddie stopped by to listen and Perry just asked him to join in on the spot. As Eddie would later say, no contracts, no agents, just two friends making a little musical history. Eddie admired Perry's way with a song and Perry just loved Eddie's beautiful voice. It was the listening public's great good fortune.
Eddie Fisher and Perry Como were very friendly back in the day. Back then I would never think of their playful banter as anything but two friends having a good time on TV. Both were excellent singers, Eddie and Perry often competing for favorite male singer,
Eddie Fisher had such a great range for a pop singer; his voice was as clear as blue water cascading over rocks in a stream. Singing with Perry Como was indeed something special; it was a gift for all generations to enjoy. Roger Plafkin--Plafkin Farms, Ada, Michigan
When Eddie and Perry sing, it brings back a time when people were not so angry about life in general; when Eddie sings "Anytime", you have the feeling that you can accomplish anything if you just have the right person by your side to be there when you need them to give you encouragement, confidence, and a sense of well being. Roger Plafkin--Plafkin Farms, Ada, Michigan
Eddie and Perry had a father son relationship. Eddie's favorite singer growing up was Al Jolson, but Perry was not far behind, and someone Eddie had tremendous respect for. Perry likewise was very fond of Eddie, and greatly admired Eddie's power and range. When Perry was about 75 he gave an interview in which was asked if there weren't any young singers he really liked. Perry responded, Eddie Fisher, and then added, but I guess Eddie's not that young anymore.
I wasn't even born when this show aired in 1956, however I do remember Perry Comoin the 60s and 70s. By that time Eddie was not a huge star. I love watching these two legends singing together. Grammy awards this Sunday...who cares!
Delightful!! I never used to be a Como fan but I've really come to appreciate his ease of style and his huge discography. Thank Perry and Eddie. They look like they really liked each and were having fun. And Como never took himself too seriously either.
Wonderful comment and so well expressed. Perry is such a joy to listen to and Eddie hits those high notes with such ease, like a great sports star so casually demonstrating his athletic prowess.
Eddie Fisher is such an incredibly underrated and unknown singer. His voice is fabulous and very strong. He outperforms all of his contemporaries. Just shows you the affect of advertising.
Eddie Fisher was one of the most successful male singers of the 1950s. He had two successful TV shows. To me, he had the best voice of all the singers. Unknown to the younger generation, but not to those who remember the fabulous 50s.
Fisher was a truly brilliant performer with a powerful voice who delivered an emotional punch when he sang. In the obituary of Eddie Fisher in the L A Times, Andy Williams said this. "He had the biggest voice I ever heard," singer Andy Williams told The Times on Friday. "I used to do numbers with him and Bobby Darin on my show. He used to blast the hell out of us. His voice was so big, round and full."
Betty Racine Oh yes, Betty, I'm 72 and remember it well. Never fear Theagchm. Fisher was huge. You have to remember, it was actually BEFORE Rock and Roll blasted into the culture which was, for white America, not until about half way through 1955. Bill Haley and the Comets Rock Around the Clock, See Ya Later, Alligator, great beat and rhythm and those corny lyrics. THEN, in March 1956, who exploded?? None other than Elvis with Heartbreak Hotel which came out in March. Through the Spring and into the Summer his hits just kept on coming. I Want You I Need You, I love you, Hound Dog, the flip side, Don't Be Cruel, which outsold the A side, and not to mention his first Albums including Blue Suede Shoes, his rendition of Ray Charles' I Got A Woman and on and on. Eddie was married to Debbie, still had hit records, then divorced Debbie, married Liz after Mike Todd died in plane crash. Then... Cleopatra in 1962 with Richard Burton as Mark Antony. You know the rest. Eddie ended up in Vegas and probably did well, But culture had changed, Presidential assassination, 5 assassinations in all, Medgar Evers the day after Kennedy's CR speech, Malcolm X, King and Bobby in 1968, Vietnam, the Beatles in 1964.
Everybody has a right to their opinion, but you are the first person I ever heard call him ugly. He was overwhelmingly considered good looking. Even Debbie Reynolds in describing their breakup referred to him as cute adorable Eddie Fisher.
Two great natural artistes of the time who inspired me to want to sing and not just be 'famous' as seems to be the aim of so many now. Their styles were different, but they could both tackle anything in 'The Great American Song Book' with equal brilliance.
What a great post. Just love seeing these two brillaint artists together. Great comraderie and a wonderful melodic, lyrical tune. And lots of fun watching the two kidding around. So sad that Eddie has just passed. What an extraordinary talent he was. I see you just joined up. Quite a debut. I'll be coming back to this often. Any time I could use a little cheering up. Any Time?, now there's another great Eddie Fisher song.
Wow... Perry Coma was a stud back in his day. There seems to be a very playful flirty thing going on. Back then it was normal but today people would be trying to out the 2 as lovers. What a difference a few decades makes I guess? Either way they are both adorable. Great song!
I am from that era, and that is not the way it was. Eddie was on the top of the charts in his day with many hits his own tv show and a fabulous voice. As a young lad, I thought he was the best. Perry was also a top star probably a bigger star, but Eddie was always able to hold his own and his voice was more powerful than Perry's, he actually had to hold back and only opened up on the last three notes of this duet. Eddie could sing operetta and hold his own with any singer even the opera singers, even though he did no go into opera. He was not really a crooner, his voice was more on the order of Al Jolson and Eddie Cantor.
@mandernu A very concise and astute description. I think the obvious affection between the two just makes the video that much better. A real father son relationship.
I have a tape of an interview with Eddie and he mentioned he liked the Hoagy Carmichael song Watermelon Weather, which did not get much air play. Would be nice to have that added to Eddie's songs here on UA-cam. Eddie and Perry sounds great together on both songs. They were also very good friends.
Anyone notice early on in the video when Eddie touches his right hand to his right ear at about 1:12. Never saw Eddie do that before. It seems obvious that he is either consciously or unconsciously imitating Perry and poking a little innocent fun his way.
Perry was a classic crooner. Eddie could croon, but he could powerfully belt, too, Perry couldn't. Perry had the more successful career, but I think Eddie had the better vocal instrument. As this clip shows, both were great singers!
I'm afraid I'll have to beg to differ on the "Perry couldn't belt" comment. Just listen to him sing "it's spring again." ua-cam.com/video/omFJ45oQAP4/v-deo.html
Perry,'s the best Eddie's not far behind , I loved this when it came out in the great fifties, when singers sang great songs, not like today's music one word for it GARBAGE.
That is probably the saddest thing today. People cannot have a homosocial relationship without being stamped as a homosexual. Back then peole sure did not care about another person's personal life. Shortly before he died, Eddie Fisher did an interview where he made a comment about that, saying: "We thought Rock Hudson was a great actor, Liberace a great piano player, we did not care about their person lives."
Eddie Fisher received so much bad press for dumping poor little Debbie Reynolds for that wickedly beautiful Liz Taylor! Too many women in his life that he could not handle!

Perry Como was pure charm. We could use a few like him today.
Eddie Fisher and Perry Como were very friendly back in the day. Back then I would never think of their playful banter as anything but two friends having a good time on TV. Both were excellent singers, Eddie and Perry often competing for favorite male singer,
Perry could not come close to Eddie's vocal prowess...but, few could...like a Mario Lanza..
Love perry and Eddie two of my late dad's favourites we grew up listening to these so nostalgic...better than some of today's rubbish
They are so great. Wish we had singers like that today.
Those where the good old times.I miss them so much.Thank you.Good old Eddie and Perry ,
Two of the truly great voices of popular music. The clowns today that call themselves singers can't ever come close to these great voices.
Eddie fangirled over Perry so much, he was such an inspiration
When Eddie and Perry sing, it brings back a time when people were not so angry about life in general; when Eddie sings "Anytime", you have the feeling that you can accomplish anything if you just have the right person by your side to be there when you need them to give you encouragement, confidence, and a sense of well being.

Incredible complementary harmony
Eddie Fisher sure had the pipes!
Perry and Eddie singing Maybe, superb.

Really great singers.. Fisher was in his prime.. and his voice was absolutely amazing..
Look at them.... Eddie & Perry..... can't get much better than that. Love it !!

***** Go and troll somewhere else please, there are adults talking here.
I just love this video. I keep watching it over and over again. Two absolute Pros at the "Top of Their Game."
Loved watching Perry Como with my parents.
SWEET MEMREES OF 2 GREAT TALENTS FROM MY HIGH SCHOOL DAYS>>> MISS EM BOTH...A "FEEL GOOD" SONG & RENDITION!
Absolutely the best video on youtube. Again thanks for the post.
Eddie idolized Perry Como, per his book Been There, Done That.
omg perry was so handsome omg 😍
Fantastic!
Two great singers and two of the most handsome.
Eddie would have been 86 today. What a remarkable talent. What a voice. I love Perry too.
Wonderful clip of two excellent singers. Thanks for posting
Wish they had recorded more duets.

Oh, listen to them. My heart just melts when I see & hear Eddie. Mmmm

Perry was the greatest and Eddie could sing too.
A great pairing.
Two great singers and two honeys.
Perry Como > everything else
i loved this song and i'm 17
necromatique .
they are still with us
Wow... Perry Coma was a stud back in his day. There seems to be a very playful flirty thing going on. Back then it was normal but today people would be trying to out the 2 as lovers. What a difference a few decades makes I guess? Either way they are both adorable. Great song!
Nonsense.
Eddie is an underrated singer who was able to hold his own with Perry Como.
He was not underrated and better than Como.
I am from that era, and that is not the way it was. Eddie was on the top of the charts in his day with many hits his own tv show and a fabulous voice. As a young lad, I thought he was the best. BOTH, VERY COOL SINGERS.......JACK ENGLISH...WEST HOLLYWOOD...ACTOR & SINGER..........
Still my favorite youtube video ever. Thanks again furn. Today would have been birthday number 91 for Eddie.
I wish Perry Como was a bit louder/Eddie Fisher wasn't as loud. Still, one of my favorites. Thanks for posting!
very great cover
@mandernu A very concise and astute description. I think the obvious affection between the two just makes the video that much better. A real father son relationship.
I like to sing, but only wish I could sing like that.
I love to hear Perry and Tony Bennett sing together again.

The guy is cute when in love
LP
interesting pairing. eddie was a belter and perry was a crooner. eddie's voice just comes across clearer and less velvety like perry's
rokrchicky Perry could certainly belt out a song. Search "Perry Como I Love You". When he sings "it's spring again", he does so quite loudly.
Do you have the full show?

Who is the Mitch mentioned in the beginning?
Mitchell "Mitch" Ayres was an orchestra leader, music arranger, and composer. He was the musical conductor on Perry's show.
@Jolson1950 Cogent comment, but then anyone with the youtube name you've chosen by definition has great taste.
Perry,'s the best Eddie's not far behind , I loved this when it came out in the great fifties, when singers sang great songs, not like today's music one word for it GARBAGE.
this song was originally made by the Ink Spots
It was written by Allan Flynn and Frank Madden.

Carrie Fisher is Princess Leia. Princess Leia is Anakin Skywalker's daughter. That means that Eddie Fisher is Darth Vader.
That is probably the saddest thing today. People cannot have a homosocial relationship without being stamped as a homosexual. Back then peole sure did not care about another person's personal life. Guess he forgot Debbie. :(
Flow master nf returns too busy sorry
Eddie Fisher received so much bad press for dumping poor little Debbie Reynolds for that wickedly beautiful Liz Taylor! Too many women in his life that he could not handle!
He married some beautiful women.
