I'm really glad you appreciate his music. A critic of his time (1821) said: "His Violin Concerto in C # minor was premiered by his brother August. It was not well received. Some people in the audience even burst out laughing during the slow movement." I hope Berwald, wherever he is, hears us now, and is glad that we are delighted with his music more than 150 years after his death.
      Thanks again!

Shameless how the works he composed were received. Of course his concerts certainly appeal to me. Again an excellent upload that makes the music lovers among us enjoy. My dear Yulia I wish you a marvellous weekend without a storm as we had here last night.

Dear Pieter, I'm glad you liked the concert. You're right, it's incomprehensible what the tastes of the people of the north were at that time. Maybe the composer was also to blame for being too frank in his opinions and this caused the musicians to turn against him? I don't know what the truth is, but I'm glad his compositions are considered valuable today.
I've heard of storms in Europe. I hope it didn't cause much damage to your city.

Dear Yulia, the three storms in one week caused a lot of damage and the other sad news was the passing away of Gary Brooker from the best popgroup ever Procol Harum. Let's hope for better news from ukraine. The world needs good news now!

@Pieter Domburg Oh, I'm stunned by this news. ... sad news ... "A Whiter Shade of Pale", magisterial song that blows my mind even now after so long. It was and is timeless...
Yes, this is a difficult, dramatic time for Ukraine and not only.... Now I refuse to think about it, we have so many problems in my country too....
You're right, we need good news!

    A beautiful concerto indeed!
It's innate beauty lies in its thematic simplicity & Grace.
Berwald has also some fine symphonies, which I had picked up from Stockholm. He deserves more prominence!
    Also loved the performance.
Thanks for the post. Superb gift from Sweden!

Does it exist any complete recording of his operas for the theatre, or anyway for some vocal works? I would be very curious to discover how this underrated and revolutionary composer treated the human voice, but until now, apart orchestral and chamber works, I haven't found anything!

On UA-cam: Franz Berwald - Drottningen av Golconda - Aria di Aline - Du anar ej den sorg.
It seems there is also a live recording of this opera (Drottningen Av Golconda =The Queen of Golconda), broadcast in Sweden in 2009, but I don't know if there is also a CD.

@@sibarit101 Many thanks to you! Meanwhile I've found on youtube a brief scene and aria from act 2 of "Estrella de Soria" very interesting and as I imagined it seems to me, as first impression, a treatment of the voice pretty original and similar to no one!
