  • This is the 152nd video on the 1961 VW Beetle with 65 pan. In this video I install a bamboo style parcel tray under the dash. this requires 4 mounting brackets.

I was surprised how much I like the bamboo parcel shelf. Adds just the right amount of retro style to any Beetle!

Thanks - I remember one of these bamboo shelves from when I was a kid - like 8 or 9 and so I had to install one just for nostalgia…

The bamboo tray adds a lot to the interior look - I would highly recommend. I am not sure of the quality differences of the different brands, but the one I got seems to be a decent medium-quality product!

Looks good but you should rust proof that grinding you did in the wheel wells! If you don’t want rust to start forming there!

Good idea - tomorrow I’ll hit both sides with a spray of Rust Reformer…

Where did you get the mounting hardware?

I think it came with 4 small “L” brackets and 8 screws. So I put 2 on each side, first attaching to the bamboo, and then holding it in place and drilling into the car. Unfortunately drilling through the carpet pulled a few rows of the carpet and messed it up - I should have used the punch and hammer earlier…. Good luck with your project!
