When I saw that episode, I immediately thought of a perfect counter to fields that neutralize electric weapons. An Evo 3, M4, or a good old shotgun would have been perfect for that episode.
And a little too quick in setting up bizarre alliances with a "species", a bunch of robots, whose goal is to destroy anything biological - as shown several times over - but always opts to give people am option to "surrender or die", which was brought up loosely in "Identity" but quickly forgotten about. Especially when the Kaylon were shown to be far more powerful.
Agreed. The Charlie arc was useful to highlight and define the other characters. I hadn't even considered she would least only one season. Im a strong fan of multi episode characters who die. It raises the stakes. It gives the deaths real impact. Their deaths are not cheesey or funny. I wish we had known some of the other characters who died by having bit scenes and background extra scenes so their deaths matter.
I really wish that I could include a species I created for my old Sci-Fi series into The Orville universe. They were engineered inorganic lifeforms, created as tools to terraform planets. Unlike the Kaylon's creators, the creators of these lifeforms (known as the Intermediaries, the Inert, Catalysts, or just Gray) were jovial and benevolent. They cherished any and everything they made, seeing destruction as an unfortunate compromise for even greater creation. The Gray were their magnum opus, with a collective mind that was built into the fabric of time and space itself. Each individual was nigh indestructible and physically imposing, but, like their creators, unwaveringly benevolent. Each individual specialized in some form of planet crafting, some with scopes as massive as planetary rotational speed, magnetosphere generation, and continental crafting, others as minute as genetic restructuring, atmospheric composition, and atomic weaving. Each job was as equal with another, and with their collective, they could not only tap into the skills and experience of another, but even interchange minds as needed. While they could throw mountains, crush stone, and consume metal, they didn't understand the concept of war or violence. If any would wish to do them harm, they'd ignore it. If they prevented their progress, they'd curl up into a ball and wait. If they threatened another lifeform, they'd wall them off. They speak, not with words, but with understanding, comprehending speech, emotions, thoughts, and reasons on instinct.
I was actually sort of hoping the Kaylon war would stick, and that we'd see some epic battle footage against them, that someone might use in a Robot Riot video.
i'm really happy that the kaylon are the ones who are allied with the union. they are clearly the best option being the most technologicaly and socitialy advanced. The only issue were some pretty fair assumptions as they lacked enough outside info
I like how it's completely unnecessary for the Kaylon to move their arms when walking. But they do this sort of arm wiggle as if to look more impressive or something lol. It's cute. 1:12 If AI takes over, I hope our AI is as cute as this. Though... hopefully they just take charge and don't kill us all. I mean, I sympathize with the kaylon... but I also think they killed a lot of innocent people that did not need to die.
The arms swaying is an integral part for the stability in natural bipedal locomotion. Even if you think you don't you will always sway your arms while walking or running , even if it's just a little bit. If the kaylons were programmed with the same algorythm for moving they will sway their arms too and since their stance is so rigid they compensate with a more conspicuous swaying of the arms, it's in their programming. And also since they're played by ordinary people, the movement just comes naturally.
@@coolbionicle True, but we can 100% program robots with full upper body stability for better combat accuracy while advancing. And kaylon have made themselves into combat robots. So it seems unlikely they would have an arm wiggle.
I have said it before, and I will say it again: there is simply no reason why these ships would be this close together, other than, _"looks cool, derp!"_ DS9 did it, and then more recent Star Trek shows did it, too, and now The Orville. And it looks dumb every time. It destroys the illusion that this is a real situation.
I really like the music right at the beginning of the clip, it reminds of 'The Planets', I think the Oslo philharmonic did it, not Metallica but I'm allowed to stray, that's probably the point.
No matter how maneuverable you are, it is never a good idea to have ships that close to each other, specially ships that large. But it does look impressive for the people watching.
This whole arc makes your realize why the Union was willing to put up with the moclans for so long. Their military was capable with the Krill of taking on the Union and kaylon fleets. They had that much military power. The Kaylons likely would always eventually win a protracted conflict. But Moclans were no joke as a galactic power.
*a solid minute of knockoff star wars music* "The question is: how do we get in?" *camera pulls back to reveal a trench leading to the facility* "There is a....." *Camera reveals an emergency tunnel* "...an emergency tunnel." I saw that trench and thought they were gonna do a trench run, this is a good joke.
Thing is, once a genie is out of the bottle, it's impossible to put it back into the bottle. Just the knowledge that such a weapon is possible means that others could quickly redevelop it so taking the device back only delays the situation. Also, it's clear that the weapon exploits some failsafe built into the Kaylons so presumably counter measures could also be quickly developed and applied as a security patch. The cat is already out of the bag with this weapon, both replication by others and effective counter measures are now inevitable.
The Union's version of diplomacy: continually remind your uneasy allies that you have kicked their asses in the past, you do not like or trust them, and you absolutely will shoot you in the face unless you "stay on their good side."
I wish seth would bring back the orville to over the air TV and show the first and second second during the summer when all they have is nothing but reruns, would be very refreshing to watch. Thanks
Union defeatedthe kaylon with the help of krill then defeated krill with help of kaylon . "After the war ends make alliance". Don't know who said it but I read it from Rome total war game.
Honestly in space, that's ironically the best defensive tactic unless you have omnidirectional shielding but even then, what's better, one omnidirectional shield, or layers of them? Now a three layered, inversed half sphere is probably the best formation for enveloping and destroying a enemy force, particularly if it's smaller than your fleet the first layer engages the enemy in a direct confrontation while the second layer spreads and fills in gaps, while the third layer takes multiple routes to complete a partial encirclement leaving a clear opening for escape. At the completion of the manouver elements of the second layer take advantage of the sesors chaos to position themselves to ambush or pursue anyone who leaves the encirclement. To take up this formation two spacial formations would be optimal in transit, an "closed umbrella" formation which from the outside would look like a big chunky vaguely arrow/spear like mass, a spherical formation, or a three layered screen. And why bring up such a tactic? Well warfare, particularly since the introduction of firearms has always been about optimizing "mass". The side able to sustain more guns, or fire more guns at a single target wins. The side with five pointy spears per man in the formation versus the size with only two likely wins unless there is the option with the side with the better overlapping shields to negate those pointy spears, then that side wins. In spacial fleet battles, the side with the best range on the most ships, the best overlapping shields (be it AA screens, star trek shields, or just flat armor), and of course who can bring more guns to the fight using 3d tactics wins. But with 3d tactics unless you have a fleet approaching from a whole multitude of angles, IE multiple jump in points coordinated perfectly, typically your formation will be easily visible and readable by an opposing admiral. So then you have to find ways to conceal your tactics while also preventing any sort of alpha strike from preemptively ruining any formations you have, which at that point massing your ships is the next best option if you cannot for whatever reason (ie hyperlanes in Starwars) have your fleet all jump in from diffrent points that put them all almost exactly in formation upon arrival. And like that three layered sphere formation which would optimize firing angles, close off a enemy fleet, and leave false opening for retreat, right out the gate a good counter formation would to be to have your fleet basically form a donut that warps around the outer edges, basically trapping the enemy fleet in their own formation. Which would then contribute to the idea of having various formation concealing "travel formations" that would help prevent counters. The whole realm of 3d tactics is actually quite interesting...but typically it takes some brain wracking to actually devise since humans, and basically every mammal, reptile, and marsupial on earth thinks in 2D or limited 3D.
It's a deployment that assures no fighting can break out. Nobody can maneuver, you stand a good chance of hitting your own guys if fighting starts. Both sides know better than to throw lit matches while standing in a pool of gasoline. And it's a great opportunity to have a dick-measuring contest!
I can sense the irony.

It's kinda obnoxious and doesn't change rhythm with what is happening in the scene.
I love that show
God I loved this episode especially the ending, Amanda I’m here, cue the tears
Kelly Grayson: Diplomat Extraordinaire.
Funny how The Orville does Trek better than Trek now.
'Seth-Trek' beats 'Nu Trek' 10 to 1 😆😅
Anyone else think the Kaylon ships are based on Eliksni Servitors from Destiny?
The design of the kylon ships are quite beautiful. They look like efficient eye balls and the red colour reminds me of Hal from 2001 a space Odessy
The enemy of my enemy is my friend
Reminds me of the DS9 episode To The Death where (spoilers)
the crew of the defiant teamed up with the Jem’Hadar to blow up an iconian gateway
When I saw that episode, I immediately thought of a perfect counter to fields that neutralize electric weapons. An Evo 3, M4, or a good old shotgun would have been perfect for that episode.
This season plot is unpredictable... Wow.!!!
I can feel the tension of the kaylon following orders, but walking the razor's edge of feeling like they're being subjugated by organics again.
The Orville season 3 was peak sci fi. I REALLY hope we get another couple of seasons like New Horizons.
This clip is intriguing, will watch this episode when I have some free time!
Primary: On the contrary, Isaac has proven he is not to be trusted.
Burke: We trust Isaac.
Isaac: Skill issue, Primary.
0:50 Another happy landing.
This reminds me of a scene from Stargate Atlantis. Wraiths and Atlantis team working together against a common enemy.
I just love the bit where Kaylon Primary's shuttle detaches from the Sphere and reconfigures itself for flight :)
The union fleet is so massive that even the heavy cruisers look small, i need to see a dreadnought in the back behind it all
Return of The Jedi Like he he he xd
_The last frame_
“Very well” *explodes*
this is a good scene
I remember watching this and thinking that you can feel the pure fear the krill and moclans felt when the kaylon fleet appear during the battle
I like to close my eyes and pretend Brian Griffen is the captain.
I have said it before, and I will say it again: there is simply no reason why these ships would be this close together, other than, _"looks cool, derp!"_ DS9 did it, and then more recent Star Trek shows did it, too, and now The Orville. And it looks dumb every time. It destroys the illusion that this is a real situation.
agreed
Isaac is my favorite character, the writing sticks true to an android's thinking........glad he didn't get emotions.
He would have been funny with emotions on the bridge, lol.
As far as I understand it, the Kaylon couldn't care less about being destroyed
As for the other faction, they are probably just suicidal
Thought when Kelly said just stay on my good side, Primary was going to ask which side was her good side lol
*a solid minute of knockoff star wars music*
"The question is: how do we get in?"
*camera pulls back to reveal a trench leading to the facility*
"There is a....."
*Camera reveals an emergency tunnel*
"...an emergency tunnel."
I saw that trench and thought they were gonna do a trench run, this is a good joke.
Forget Star Trek, this is straight Darth Vader vibes.
Holy Wow That looks So Incredibly Awesome 😻
Thing is, once a genie is out of the bottle, it's impossible to put it back into the bottle. Just the knowledge that such a weapon is possible means that others could quickly redevelop it so taking the device back only delays the situation. Also, it's clear that the weapon exploits some failsafe built into the Kaylons so presumably counter measures could also be quickly developed and applied as a security patch. The cat is already out of the bag with this weapon, both replication by others and effective counter measures are now inevitable.
Star Trek, especially the early series from the last century, where always my preferred SciFi franchise. Orville is a better version of that.
"Stay on my good side". I haven't watched this episode exactly, but I'm now afraid of what she'll do if she's angry.
The Union's version of diplomacy: continually remind your uneasy allies that you have kicked their asses in the past, you do not like or trust them, and you absolutely will shoot you in the face unless you "stay on their good side."
"We do have posteriors, but we do not have anal sphincters. Where were you 'kicking' exactly?" -hypothetical snarky Kaylon response
😂
Did the Orville crew really kick their butts? Isaac was the victor of their encounter.
I wish seth would bring back the orville to over the air TV and show the first and second second during the summer when all they have is nothing but reruns, would be very refreshing to watch. Thanks
The ctrl+c ctrl+v is strong with this one
Commander Grayson just let loose in this episode. No time to chill.
I hope Seth McFarlane gets done with this other TV show so he can continue the Orville.
When your show is better written than Kurtzman Trek!
i figured the kaylon were going to backstab the union by the end of this episode...
i was wrong
I was also wrong.
Gettin mass effect flashbacks
I want to imagine the Kaylon ships become blue instead of red in the future.
Union defeatedthe kaylon with the help of krill then defeated krill with help of kaylon . "After the war ends make alliance". Don't know who said it but I read it from Rome total war game.
Stay on my good side or I’ll turn ya into a colander🤣
I LUV KELLY AND HER REMARKS..LOL
Goes to show how insane politics can be, one day someone is your enemy than your ally and then your enemy again.
Outstanding ❤
Why is every science fiction show the same? A million ships on one side and a million ships on the other?
They kinda similar with replicators of the SGA
Casio G’z Eye GZE-1 Commercial?))))
Casio should sue the money for this!
Just curious, what's the name of the ship in the painting at 3:06?
The US merchant vessel Enterprise? Probably wrong, but it would be a clever way to put in such an homage.
Introducing, the Bri'ish Cyberman Borg the Doctor Who:
will the ever be another series of the Orville ??? hope so .
me too
When I saw this for the first time I coomed & I boosted. AT THE SAME TIME
Cool scene but I always cringe at seeing fleets of warships packed together like sardines.
At least these wars are waged for real reasons, if even by error, unlike reality where wars here are only about profits and power.
You know 1 foot taller and that shuttle wouldn’t have fit
