Bill Ward was quoted as saying into the void ...this song was his favorite era of Black Sabbath . He said this was Black Sabbath at its best . Into the void was the band working there best together
I'm an English white guy nearly 70 years old so this stuff is my youth. The only reason I mention I'm white and English is I'm fascinated entertained and surprised that every music reaction chanell I'm subscribed to happens to be young black Americans litening to so much English stuff from way back when Beatles Stones Zepellin Sabbath etc. I get to listen to my old stuff not that I ever stopped but with young comments from kids who know a completely different time and very different genres. I get a buzz out of seeing you guys get such a buzz like fifty years later! Keep up with the great exposures of older stuff to new listeners.
In seventh grade my life changed forever as my best friend made a tape with two records on it: Master Of Reality and Fair Warning from Van Halen Fuck sake, what a day. And Into The Void was the song that I couldn’t stop playing that day...and still can’t.
Everything from Ozzy Sabbath is stank face worthy. Hole in the Sky is a good one if you want a good showing of Ozzys pipes. Also one of Tony's most evil sounding riffs
Sabbath has an inherent funk to their sound. It is almost always just bubbling underneath the fuzz. And sometimes like this track, it just grooves. My all time favourite band, with Funkadelic a close second. Enjoy the Sabbath journey !
My first time listening to Master of Reality was summer of '73 thru headphones. When this song finished I flung off the headphones in awe - mind melted, blown, and obliterated. This song is a crusher. Thanks for the reaction and your articulate breakdown!
Yes Jay, it’s tooooooo 🌶 🥵 spicy!! That’s Sabbath, all spice!! I see so many suggesting National Acrobat and Spiral Architect, I agree those 2 are gonna blow your socks off, major spice! 🎵💜🎵
This was the first album I ever bought right around the time it was released. I think I was 12. It still blows my mind all these years later. I really like how you break the song down lyrically and musically
I know this is an old video but I just discovered this and yours is one of the most articulate reactions to Sabbath I've seen. The Orwell reference and even your comment about the guages on the bass strings is spot on. Great reaction dude :)
Can't live without this music. It keeps my soul alive and it keeps me going. Ozzy era Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osborne is the soundtrack of my 20 year old life.
Geezer wrote most of the lyrics for Sabbath during the 70's (Ozzy would contribute the occasional line or song title) but Ozzy was responsible for the melody of the vocals. So that cadence you were talking about, that's all Ozzy. Basically, they gave him the lyrics, telling him what to sing, but they left it up to him on HOW to sing it.
Much respect for not reacting to the usual overplayed classics. These gems I find better than the ones that were mainstream or made the charts back in the day.
I don't think that Geezer's bass strings were especially high-gauge until later in his career. His tone comes from his amplifiers, how much force he hits the strings with, the low string-tension, and the fact that he hit the strings over the fretboard. It's sad that Sabbath cycled through producer-after-producer with their first album because only one of them liked Geezer's sound; if only those other guys knew that he'd become one of the best to ever wield a bass
This is my favorite Sabbath tune! You should check out the live version of this from any of the live "Ozzfest" concert videos. It's even heavier live. Also listen to the live version from "Reunion". Total masterpiece!! Another great live song to check out is called "Dirty Women". My 2nd favorite Sabbath tune.
Nice React; It's cool that you've taken the time to learn the musicians..That really helps in the love and if you ever meet a stranger that is a Sab head..You'll be making them smile ear to ear...You remind me of what it was like to hear this vinyl for the very first time...This whole album is amazing...Decades later; I love it even more now...:) The last album with Ozzy, sans 13; Never Say Die; is something so profound, it will give you some killer chills...:)
I think this whole album showcases Geezers bass abilities. Without going way out and away. I believe that it's dropped tuning that helps give it a thick and heavy quality. I know Tony Iommi plays in lower, alternative tunings
Toni Iomi had two of his frett fingertips cut off on his last day of work. It changed his playing of course. They were ready to start recording the Black Sabbath " Black Sabbath " album. Great underrated guitarist. He wears two prosthetic tips.
Happy I found someone that appreciates music for the sake of music. If you like to break down lyrics The Thrill of It All is a deep dive that sends a message.
Yes! THAT was so cool! WE were sooo lucky in the 70's! WE were exposed to ALL genres in St. Louis, except Country station had poor reception. 50's, 60's, 70's BUT played the same top billboards OVER & OVER. K-SHE 95 dedicated every Sunday to play several albums in their ENTIRETY. Cannot remember what they calld it now . anyone . . WAS it the 7th day something?
Geezer usually used a Pbass back then with either Flatwound or Roundwound strings, I think more roundwound. He also plucks with his fingers very hard and does so close to where the neck and body meet. All this lead to him having a HEAVY tone and nimble movement on the bass. Just listen to After Forever or NIB for that.
What if I told you there is a Soundgarden cover of this with different lyrics but similar meaning? "Into the Void (Sealth)" takes Chief Sealth's speech about how precious the land is and they turn it into lyrics.
I was about to say that ... a VERY worthy cover! When that came out on the SOMMS EP, I played it for a friend and she didnt believe me that it was actually NOT Sabbath lol
You done any Faith No More? They have their own... got covers too and they do an awesome cover of War Pigs... bring this whole thing perfectly into the 90s with what they did and expanded...
If you haven't heard it already "Sabbra Cadabbra" is an outstanding track. I haven't seen many reactions to it and I can't figure out why. It's SOOOO good!
It's funny, I had the same exact reaction as you when my uncle played this track for me back in the day when that main riff breaks in. The buildup is so dirty already but then the drums come in and I just started laughing out of disbelief because it's so heavy and bad as fuck
7:13 Tony iommi literally plugs his guitar into the bass port on his amp, so the bass needs to be insanely low to compensate lmao, as low as it can possibly be
Want something to check out that flys under the radar of every other reaction channel? Try a band called Orchid, "Capricorn" "He Who Walks Alone" and "Mouths of Madness." They are a newer band but with a retro sound. They are like a 70's era Black Sabbath clone.
Geezer uses heavy gauge round wound bass strings (50-110). Not sure if that was an option when he recorded this? Classic sound of an old P bass through an Ampeg tube head. Just killer!
From what is most likely Sabbath's final album the song "God is Dead," has that classic Sabbath sound with modern production. ua-cam.com/video/OhhOU5FUPBE/v-deo.html Sabbath songs featuring three singers not named Ozzie: "Voodoo" featuring RJD and one Iommi's nastiest riffs. ua-cam.com/video/2vflFZW1voE/v-deo.html "Disturbing the Priest" Ian Gillian of Deep Purple fame sings on this track and lets loose with his signature screams ua-cam.com/video/J2riPeQpbQg/v-deo.html "Eternal Idol' Tony Martin doing the singing on this down tempo doom and gloom track. ua-cam.com/video/tWIGVvwNvjg/v-deo.html
No pedal. Him straight into a tube amp, with his guitar tuned down to C# with very LIGHT strings, with amp on "11" lol... Laney Amp I believe, but on the recording I could be wrong. And, I'm too lazy to use the Google machine lol...
Black Sabbath Black Sabbath, thats my favorite from them. The songs I havent heard off this album that you listen to "encouraged" me to buy this vinyl. 20$ on discogs, cant wait for it. Im kinda wondering if digging into the Dio albums is something worthwhile. Heaven and Hell is the only Sabbath with Dio song I know, might go on a journey 😂
Bill Ward was quoted as saying into the void ...this song was his favorite era of Black Sabbath . He said this was Black Sabbath at its best . Into the void was the band working there best together
I can see that.
Fav Sabbath tune. Dark groove. Ozzy delivers his line with such swagger.
Behold the birth of doom metal
I'm an English white guy nearly 70 years old so this stuff is my youth.

Hole in the Sky is a good one if you want a good showing of Ozzys pipes. Also one of Tony's most evil sounding riffs
Black Sabbath- a national acrobat or spiral architect
I concur! Jay is gonna def dig these both!
excellent recommendations
Yep, I've been a die hard fan since these albums came out, and those are my two favorites.
that whole album is fire
Thank you for doing their non commercial stuff. They have so much great music that most casual listeners never heard.
Sabbath has an inherent funk to their sound. It is almost always just bubbling underneath the fuzz. And sometimes like this track, it just grooves.
My all time favourite band, with Funkadelic a close second. Enjoy the Sabbath journey !
Children of the sea
And/or
Children of the grave
The lyrics are 30-40 years ahead of there time. No weak link in this band the fact that these 4 guys found one another is a miracle
"I had callouses just listening to it". Awesome comment and appropriate for Geezer Butler!
My first time listening to Master of Reality was summer of '73 thru headphones. When this song finished I flung off the headphones in awe - mind melted, blown, and obliterated. This song is a crusher. Thanks for the reaction and your articulate breakdown!
Children of the Grave ....... Bill Ward lead drums . Say No More
I am happy you chose this one - such a great groove. Try "Under The Sun" for another "off the beaten track" cut.
Black Sabbath: Wasp/Behind the wall of sleep/Bassically/N.I.B. It's two songs in one
When you said Bill Ward was beating those drums like they owed him money was fuckin hilarious... Great reaction to the best.. Keep doin Sabbath!!!!
Yes Jay, it’s tooooooo 🌶 🥵 spicy!! That’s Sabbath, all spice!! I see so many suggesting National Acrobat and Spiral Architect, I agree those 2 are gonna blow your socks off, major spice! 🎵💜🎵
Black Sabbath-- after forever
Into The Void is on another level. Another great one is A National Acrobat. Very underrated Sabbath track.
Can never go wrong with some Sabbath. Recommend: The Wizard, Killing yourself to live, and Fairies wear boots. Cheers
Good pick! Try Symptom of the Universe. Lots of great transitions in that one!
Beat those drums like they owe him money. Yes, could not have said it better! Black Sabbath 50 years later still awesome!
Great time! Sabbath during the Ozzie and Dio years can do no wrong.
Super albums from that time.... almost other worldly music from another time on another plane....
one of my favorites from my favorite album that i bought 50 yrs ago
Amen!
Great old KICK ASS 70's Hard Rock! Master of Reality Fantastic album.
This was the first album I ever bought right around the time it was released. I think I was 12. It still blows my mind all these years later. I really like how you break the song down lyrically and musically
in the early 70's, people were obsessed with nuclear war and pollution. both issues were constant topics in media and entertainment.
I know this is an old video but I just discovered this and yours is one of the most articulate reactions to Sabbath I've seen. The Orwell reference and even your comment about the guages on the bass strings is spot on. Great reaction dude :)
Oh, I forgot to mention Geezer wrote the lyrics and music for: After forever
He wrote most of the lyrics for most songs.
Can't live without this music. It keeps my soul alive and it keeps me going. Ozzy era Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osborne is the soundtrack of my 20 year old life.

Only Paranoid hit the UK top 20, nothing else came close. Much like Zeppelin and 'Whole Lotta Love'. No other singles.
I don't think that Geezer's bass strings were especially high-gauge until later in his career. His tone comes from his amplifiers, how much force he hits the strings with, the low string-tension, and the fact that he hit the strings over the fretboard. Can tell you're a very experienced musician by your comments on the mix, string gauges, and vocal cadence. Thanks for the great reaction and content.

My top 3 Sabbath
1-Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
2-Master of Reality
3-Black Sabbath
Hand of Doom or Electric Funeral are also some killer tracks that you would most likely dig by Black Sabbath. Lots of groove
Very few reactions to "Neon Knights" from Sabbath's 1980 album "Heaven and Hell." Everyone does the title track.
Their entire first album is life changing
Most underrated Sabbath song.
I recommend Symptom of the Universe
It has everything. Mind blowing. The band is on top of their game on that one.
Toni Iomi had two of his frett fingertips cut off on his last day of work. It changed his playing of course. They were ready to start recording the Black Sabbath " Black Sabbath " album. Great underrated guitarist. He wears two prosthetic tips.
Sabbath my brother 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Gotta do the wizard next !!
Warning too
Happy I found someone that appreciates music for the sake of music. If you like to break down lyrics The Thrill of It All is a deep dive that sends a message.
National Acrobat and Cornucopia would be good choices.
💯
You analyse so well... You should have more subscribers!!
Nice to see someone doing a deeper dive into sabbath. If you're not familiar with Planet Caravan, you should check it out.
Yes! THAT was so cool! WE were sooo lucky in the 70's! One of my favs by Sabbath. Nasty ass tune
Finally, a reacting UA-camr that doesn't pretend to have never heard songs
Black sabbath the wizard is a banger
If I remember correctly Geezer used to use a Bass effects pedal by Electro- Harmonix called BassBalls. Harmonically rich an$ fattened up his sound.
Geezer usually used a Pbass back then with either Flatwound or Roundwound strings, I think more roundwound. He also plucks with his fingers very hard and does so close to where the neck and body meet. All this lead to him having a HEAVY tone and nimble movement on the bass. The Wizard 🔥🔥🔥
What if I told you there is a Soundgarden cover of this with different lyrics but similar meaning? "Into the Void (Sealth)" takes Chief Sealth's speech about how precious the land is and they turn it into lyrics.
Soundgarden does a worthy cover of this one.
I was about to say that ... a VERY worthy cover! When that came out on the SOMMS EP, I played it for a friend and she didnt believe me that it was actually NOT Sabbath lol
You can find the isolated bass track here on UA-cam. Insane groove and tone
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again Heavy Metal is the natural descendent to blues and hard rock.
Geezer uses distortion and a Morley power wah to get this sound.. Used to jam this groove at rehearsal back in the day.
Aye tis a crowd pleaser :D
Great reaction, man!! Thanks!
These are always written by Tony Iommi (not Iommo), the genius who invented metal. Good job! The lyrics are by Geezer Butler.
It's funny, I had the same exact reaction as you when my uncle played this track for me back in the day when that main riff breaks in. The buildup is so dirty already but then the drums come in and I just started laughing out of disbelief because it's so heavy and bad as fuck
Indeed my brother 🔥
I used to drive everyone crazy playing B sides of records and avoiding popular or commonly played songs. Keep dancing on strange paths brother.
they tune down a step and a half that is where the fat sound comes from
7:13 Tony iommi literally plugs his guitar into the bass port on his amp, so the bass needs to be insanely low to compensate lmao, as low as it can possibly be
Stank face!!! DAS A BOP!!!
The last minute or so is just unreal.
A nice thick slab of heavy metal. Great pick. Fuck yeah. SABBATH!!!!!
I would like to listen to Sabbath for the first time again.
Want something to check out that flys under the radar of every other reaction channel? Try a band called Orchid, "Capricorn" "He Who Walks Alone" and "Mouths of Madness." They are a newer band but with a retro sound. They are like a 70's era Black Sabbath clone.
Such a great album. So sludgy and heavy
Now you have to do Ozzy's "Revelation (Mother Earth)" vecause it ties into this song's theme pretty well.
That is Toni Iomi guitar! The creator of heavy doom riffs
i was 14 when i saw them do this the 1st time 1978 VH opened.
Theres a band, Exhorder, who does an insanely awesome cover of this song!
You got to do black sabbath- symptom of the universe now
Yes!
This is correct.
I prefer the version on Speak of the devil.
Geezer uses heavy gauge round wound bass strings (50-110). Not sure if that was an option when he recorded this? Classic sound of an old P bass through an Ampeg tube head. Just killer!
This is weaponized Sabbath. Now try some tracks from Sabotage.
Thank you, sir
Their first 6 albums and the 2 they did with Dio were really good......
Gets better!
Geezer was using a Fender Precision with LaBella flatwounds 50-105.
Supernaut, The Writ
Just hit me...your intro to PinkFloyd's Shine on...6-9 reminds me of J Geils Band Intro to Musta Got Lost....uncanny!!!
No pedal. Him straight into a tube amp, with his guitar tuned down to C# with very LIGHT strings, with amp on "11" lol... Laney Amp I believe, but on the recording I could be wrong. And, I'm too lazy to use the Google machine lol...

Im kinda wondering if digging into the Dio albums is something worthwhile. Heaven and Hell is the only Sabbath with Dio song I know, might go on a journey 😂
Dive right in you won't regret it.. So many unreal tunes.. Enjoy
react to Their song" Electric funeral"
Black Sabbath - Under the Sun
The Wizard , Fairies wear boots , children of the grave
Behind the wall of sleep if ya wanna hear some groovy shit
planet caravan by Black Sabbath. then check the others.....almost clones.
