Great review. No fluff and straight to the point. 👍🏿 Really impressed with the capability of that drone. Were you satisfied with the video quality in comparison to the Dji mini 4 pro? Many thanks from Zambia
The video quality is better than the original Hover X1. However, the DJI Mini 4 Pro produces a better overall quality video in all light conditions compared to the Hover Air X1 Pro. I wasn’t impressed with the video in low light conditions.
This is what I've been waiting for, a small drone that can track me, is affordable, and will fit in my pack. Looks to be superior to the DJI Neo due to the obstacle avoidance function and much higher top speed.
First, thanks a ton! looking at the clouds and trees, I see a lot of compression artifacts. Is there a way to turn the compression down and bitrate up? Take for example the power lines starting at the @4:00 mark. It's like texture loading on a video game.
@@JonathanFisherS It has options for EV and ISO. However, others users have experimented with those setting and said it didn’t make a significant difference.
James, thanks for this test 👍 I had the X1 too and am waiting for the Pro to arrive. I'm also a cyclist and was not happy with the speed. Where do you live? It looks like a lot of new build over there. Looking forward to more testing of the Pro1 Greets from the Netherlands.
Thanks! I live in Maryland about 20 minutes north of the Washington, DC border. Yes there’s lots of new construction throughout Maryland in the area that is close to Washington, DC.
@@beastoncycle It looks very nice , me and my wife said the houses look so unamerican. Eventhough we have never been there 😉 I went for the skiing combo with the beacon, hope it arrives soon. Happy flying James
Hi James, how did you get the data from your Garmin fit file to overlay the video! I received my X1 Pro with Beacon today (Monday in Australia) so might have to wait until the weekend to fully test it out riding. I’ve had the original X1 for the past year and my only issue, like you, was the slower speed couldn’t keep up. I used it more often on gravel rides and quiet country paths but even the original X1 was too slow so your video shows the new X1 Pro solves that. Not sure how I’ll use the Beacon yet - stronger tracking I guess but tracking doesn’t seem too bad without it. So far on day one, today, all I’ve used the Beacon for is to fly the X1 Pro around my back yard in manual mode!
Thanks! I used a PC program named “Telemetry Overlay” to input the Garmin data. It has a free trial but I think it cost $150 yearly. The Hover tracks well without the beacon. I think the beacon improves tracking if in a group and add some safety so that you can see where the drone is at if it loses tracking. I’ll get a beacon after it becomes available on Amazon and some of the issues are fixed.
Thanks! Yes I’ve tried close/high follow. It’s not much different from mid/high follow. Close/high is my preferred setting for follow mode. I use Telemetry Overlay to add the data to the file. It’s hard if you don’t pay attention to exactly what mile you are at when you start recording with the drone. If you know what mile you were at when you started recording it’s not hard.
Hi James, do you have the Beacon? And were you using it during the videos? I heard if you use the beacon when the battery on the X1 Pro/Pro Max gets low (about 8-9% battery left) it will automatically return to the beacon (to you if you are using it). Good video, looking forward to when mine arrives! 😎
No, don’t have the beacon. I intend to purchase the Beacon after it goes up for sale on Amazon. Based on what I’m hearing from owners of the beacon is that it doesn’t work well. It is going to need to be fine tuned via a software update.
👍🏼 gotcha….I’ve seen one user use the beacon and single joystick to fly the X1 Pro/Pro Max in a quasi-FPV mode and it worked really well, but I haven’t seen anybody demonstrate using the home button on the beacon to show if the return to beacon option works properly.
No, I’m not interested in the DJI Neo. Its speed is very slow for tracking. Max speed is 13 mph. The original Hover Air X1 is better than the DJI Neo for tracking. I got a DJI Mini4 Pro if I want to manually fly and catch cinematic shots which is much better than the DJI Neo. I strictly use the Hover products for tracking.
Is it also possible to shoot stills? And how is the quality? I do drone-photography when I go cycling in the mountains, would be cool if this one also has decent stills as it is way more easy to take on a bikeride then my current drone.
Yes it takes still shoots. I don’t think it takes still shoots in follow mode. I haven’t tried to take still shots with the X1 Pro, but with the regular X1 I have taken still shots and the quality wasn’t good.
I use a PC program named “Telemtry Overlay” to overlay the data. It does not come with the Hover. You have to input the video with the data from a Garmin file and sync it to get the overlay.
lol…didn’t realize I’d been pronouncing Hover incorrectly to after I finished creating the video. Didn’t feel like remaking the video 🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️. I expected to be called out about the mispronunciation.
Thank you for the review. I bought the X1 Pro also because I am a cyclist.
They really should get the "Hover" Air X1 to "hover" for a few minutes before autolanding. Thanks for the in depth review!
Man fantastic video! Way to go ! Bravo ! Great work
Most helpful and thank you .
_This is a game changer. Imagine having 2; 1 in front & 1 in the back._
I got the cycling bundle. Has arrived, but UK winter is setting in so not sure when I will be able to use it yet.

Awesome. It actually works
ill say this, the camera quality is brilliant the same as the tracking on it
Great video! Thanks for posting!
By the way, it's pronounced "hover" air. Not Hoover air.
Cheers!
Yep, I thought that too, hover as in hovercraft. Informative video though, thank you

Thanks!
Sweet! Can’t wait to get mine!

..thanks for sharing...please make some more 'dolly track mode' video and side-tracking mode video...TIA....
I’m creating a video for an in depth review of dolly track mode. Plan on uploading it to UA-cam this weekend.

HI, 26 MPH tracking is impressive .....Is it possible for you to review the DJI NEO Drone. thanks

Hi, wie oder womit hast du die Daten in das Video eingebunden. Funktioniert das über die Hoverair app direkt?
I use a PC program named “Telemtry Overlay” to overlay the data. It does not come with the Hover. You have to input the video with the data from a Garmin file and sync it to get the overlay.
@@beastoncyclethanks for the answer.

Hover (Huh-ver) not Hoover
The Hoover sucks 🤪

Of course it sucks, your flying a vacuum as a drone brah! 😂
Good fair review but riding on a highway with any drone .........not cool.
Why would you need a drone for road cycling? It's painfully boring to watch
