Or the dog severely injures the raccoon and the thing needlessly suffers all day and night in agonizing pain, until it eventually bleeds out. That's a fucked up thing to let have to any animal, wild or not. People's lack of awareness and understanding never surprises me, it's sad.
It fell off the tree, it wasn't an attack. If you're talking about it defending itself once it was on the ground, backed into a corner, with the dog on top of it.. Still not crazy or unusual.
You are correct, for the wrong reason. In these situations, you have to choose your actions very carefully. the best thing to do, is what the uploader was doing at first, staying calm, observe, but be ready to help you dog the second things go bad, if it goes bad for your dog. the worst thing you can do is distract your dog or tell your dog to stop, when the raccoon is right next to your dog. the second your dog turns its back to the raccoon, THERE IS A GREAT CHANCE that the raccoon is going to jump on your dog and bite it. the dog and the raccoon are both in survival mode. the dog will protect its property at all costs. the raccoon sees the dog as a threat to its life and it will defend its life at all costs. the uploader f***s up at exactly 1:04 where he says "good boy", which you can clearly see, distracts the dog for a couple of seconds. the uploader is damn lucky that the raccoon didn't choose that moment of advantage to jump on the dog.
@@mygiguser i hope you realize that you made a huge mistake distracting your dog 1:04 your dog could've gotten a nasty bite and you could've spent your afternoon at a vet, making sure your dog didn't get rabies.
Really shouldn't be letting your dog mess around with that raccoon. Beyond the possibility of rabies, raccoons are wild animals; unlike your dog that is well fed & pampered that animal is used to fighting for territory, food, and defense on a daily basis. They can really tear up pets.Your dog's tail was wagging, ears up - clearly in play mode - not a killer.
If it has rabies or distemper, it's in the early stages, as shown by the fact that it didn't want the confrontation. It was really determined to make it up that tree, and the dog was simply in its way. But I hope you quarantined your dog for a month, since there was an altercation.

Raccoon did not attack the shepherd. It was defending itself, keeping the dog in front of it, trying to stay alive. The only time it went after the shepherd was to fight back. It's possible it's a young female with kits up in the tree.

Sarah Brown how did the racoon get chased in it was outside the fence and the dog started barking for a warning but the racoon didn’t listen and ran inside
@@savagehunter3509 watch the beginning of the video, and you'll see. The owner came around to the outside of the fence and toward the rear of the raccoon. The raccoon was then deliberately pinned between the dog and the human. The human was hoping to get the raccoon herded into the dog's reach so that he could record a slaughter, but the raccoon tried to just climb up the tree to safety. When he fell, the owner still didn't get to record a slaughter, because raccoons are quite able to defend themselves. When the owner of the dog realised that he wasn't getting what he had hoped for, he stopped filming and started coming up with excuses. If what he said had been the case was true, he could have recorded that part. Also, the raccoon was clearly not rabid. He wasn't disorientated, or hunched up shivering. He was on top of his game. Animal control always get filmed dealing with an animal that someone has called them about, but this man didn't record any proof of what he was claiming. That's what happened in the video.
Raccoon accidentally fell on the dog, the dog bit it and the raccoon proceeded to defend itself. Good to know I shouldn't defend myself now if someone's attacking me, because they'll just think I'm retaliating for no reason. The raccoon just wanted the tree, not the dog. Raccoons can come out in the day and not have a disease. If it had a disease, tell me how you were able to find that out. Did you take the dog to the vet or did you just assume?
The Raccoon wasn't crazy it just slipped from the tree while it tried to escape from the dog. Also since the raccoon was on defensive mode, it wasn't Rabid or what so you can be sure that your dog is OK. I really like your dog because it was also scared and didn't start biting the raccoon which shows how well trained it is not to bite everything on sight without reason.
You just made no sense. That dog is not a good protector of property and family. My Akita would have immediately broken its back with no hesitation. Why? because of his instincts, and his breeding is to protect his property, his owner, his family. The minute that racoon came in the yard it was a threat. He is not a good breed of Shepherd. He was scared and on the defense. To have that type of dog is not for it to eat, sleep, poop, and play. Get a poodle that will bark.
Well trained? If this dog was well trained it would have immediately dispatched this threat. This is a completely untrained dog, with poor protection instincts. More than likely suspect breeding. No well trained German shepherd should act like that.
@@gcanada3005 Okay thanks for your feedback, from now on I will buy a pitbull and train it to kill animals and humans so that it can learn that everything it breathes is s threat so that I can have a good protector. Great Video, loved the fall in slow motion! However I was afraid for the racoon at that point. Of course I'm on your dogs side, thank goodness your dog was smart enough to keep some distance between him and coon but still let him know not wanted there. I agree'd with what John Dalman said and I too would of wanted to get a cool video but I would of went to my dogs side to make sure she wasn't hurt, and also I wouldnt want my dog to hurt the racoon.
First of all, i am sorry to hear that your dog died. That sucks. How did that happen, if i may ask? Darwin? Second, my dog is still alive as you can see in my other videos. If a raccoon would bite him, then he would kill it in a heartbeat.

Meriale Merson Yes, the raccoon was so scared that he walked towards the dog first!? If I am scared of something, i walk the other way, and not towards it.
Animals react different than you do.. for most it's fight or flight. They will either run or stand their ground. Obviously you're the flight sort and that's okay. Flight can save you from harm, but in the case of an animal, when confronted by danger than they may stand their ground and show aggression in hopes that the predator (in this case the dog) will get scared and run away. All living creatures react in one way or the other. The Raccoon was trying to run up the tree and fell, the dog rushed over in an aggressive manner. The Raccoon did what he felt he needed to to defend himself. Had he really wanted to attack that dog, he would have. I've seen Raccoon's locked in mortal battle trying protect young again a Mountain Lion. They can be pretty fearless when backed into a corner. Did you wonder if maybe this Raccoon had babies up there she might have thought she needed to protect or get to?
Well, it's obvious you are defensive about how you view this and how I do... it sounds to me your trying to make excuses or justify being cruel to an animal by allowing your dog to have at it, then hoping by titling your video in the way you did that others would agree. I don't see it the way you do because that was your dog trying to attack the Raccoon. I don't fault the dog at all, in fact, it is in their nature to protect whats theirs, their home, yard and family.. so he was just doing his job... he's blameless... however... be that as it may... you just stood there videotaping and in my opinion hoping your dog would harm or kill the raccoon. And your reasoning behind making excuses is because you know that's what you'd hoped for. But you didn't want to look like the bad guy.. so oh course you blamed the Raccoon for this. That's cool, whatever makes you feel better and sleep at night for being an asshole is fine by me.. you have to live with it.
Meriale Merson You should become a judge. And the way I see this, the Raccoon was lucky, that I ran over there, otherwise the dog would have killed it.
Dogs are supposed to protect their territory. Raccoons or someone trying to break into your house, you want the dog to respond with barking and bite if they don't leave.

After watching I thought hard about it... For all you people out there just guessing, talk logic and not stupidity. Hi, I am a German Shepherd owner myself and I understand that your beautiful, loyal German Shepherd is following its natural instincts - to defend their territory, and that is exactly what your German Shepherd is doing. The raccoon made the choice that it would enter the territory and climb the tree, it failed to do so and landed on the ground. The German Shepherd, however, frightened and loyal as to protecting his / her owner, instinctively was barking and standing its ground. The raccoon, as you can see, was in a aggressive mood and willing to attack the dog. The raccoon did not retreat through the fence, however followed the German Shepherd. A wild raccoon has its own natural weapons and advantages, using its claws could easily hurt any victim. Again, the German Shepherd was standing its ground like a normal dog and the raccoon chose to encounter this situation. Thank you for the video, I hope your beautiful German Shepherd is not injured! :D
Some people want to see their dog tear another animal up. I don’t understand this at all. Some people even know their dog is aggressive and then set them loose to play/fight with other unsuspecting pets. That’s really messed up. You don't find that out til AFTER the dog is bit and you go inside to check his vaccine records. Or the dog severely injures the raccoon and the thing needlessly suffers all day and night in agonizing pain, until it eventually bleeds out. That's a fucked up thing to let have to any animal, wild or not. People's lack of awareness and understanding never surprises me, it's sad.
You can see the raccoon is on the defensive, but keeping it smart & waiting for the right moment to counter attack - he was NOT scared. He was SMART.
Joe Masters Raccoons are way smarter than dogs
lmao what? It didn't attack anything, and it definitely didn't have rabies.
The owner of the dog has the intellect of a doorknob.
When the raccoon was falling I was just imagining boulevard of broken dreams playing in the background 😂
It fell off the tree, it wasn't an attack. If you're talking about it defending itself once it was on the ground, backed into a corner, with the dog on top of it.. Still not crazy or unusual.
But going through that fence toward a barking dog, no? That's not normal raccoon behavior and the poster has confirmed the raccoon had distemper.
.410 shotgun right then would be great.
Great Racoon medicine 💊 👌
I do not understand why game regulations protect pests.

As he was falling in slow motion you should of added that song "Hello darkness my old friend..."
Really shouldn't be letting your dog mess around with that raccoon. Beyond the possibility of rabies, raccoons are wild animals; unlike your dog that is well fed & pampered that animal is used to fighting for territory, food, and defense on a daily basis. They can really tear up pets.Your dog's tail was wagging, ears up - clearly in play mode - not a killer.
always gotta have comments like yours, cool man, you know what the average person should know (animal body language)... good job.
I was thinking the same thing I just saw a raccoon at our house for the first time now I'm terrified to let my dog out at night
If it has rabies or distemper, it's in the early stages, as shown by the fact that it didn't want the confrontation. It was really determined to make it up that tree, and the dog was simply in its way. But I hope you quarantined your dog for a month, since there was an altercation.
My two GSDs had one ran up a post the other day. I saved its life by making them come in. He might have got some licks in, but he was as good as doomed. They were in pack mode.
It didn't attack, it fell. Everything after that was self defense.

Have you vaccinated your dog or taken it to a vet?
Chances are the raccoon has rabies.
It might not, but I'm pretty sure you don't ever want to find out on your own.
this is more of a dog attacking a racoon
A raccoon can definitely kill a smaller dog but not a germ shepherd.
he never attacked the dog he fell from the tree and was trying to protect himself from the GS.
After watching the video I could tell the raccoon was probably sick. Not sure if it was rabies or distemper, but that raccoon was acting very strange.
+Raven Blackthorne a racoon out in the daytime is an unusual behavior in itself
It was a young racoon.
He looked at the owner like.....how am I doing?
no, he asked for permission to finish it
Raccoon did not attack the shepherd. It was defending itself, keeping the dog in front of it, trying to stay alive. The only time it went after the shepherd was to fight back. It's possible it's a young female with kits up in the tree.
What?
what the fuck are you talking about

@@savagehunter3509 you saw a raccoon being chased into the dog's territory. The owner was hoping for a different outcome than he got.
Animal control came and took it for an exam, and they said it had Distemper.

@@kcorpora1 agreed 100%
@@gcanada3005 Okay thanks for your feedback, from now on I will buy a pitbull and train it to kill animals and humans so that it can learn that everything it breathes is s threat so that I can have a good protector. Great Video, loved the fall in slow motion! However I was afraid for the racoon at that point. Of course I'm on your dogs side, thank goodness your dog was smart enough to keep some distance between him and coon but still let him know not wanted there. @@someoneserious2005 I grab him by the neck, I make him watch.
I tell him it's okay and show him that I'm aware, but not woried. If he fails to relax then I'm removing him from the situation. Tala Habern ... you do know that is an German Shepard right?
Meriale Merson Well, maybe my dog tried to protect his babies. Ever thought of that?
Meriale Merson it's always nice to see an intelligent person commenting on youtube. not being sarcastic lol
Dogs are supposed to protect their territory. Raccoons or someone trying to break into your house, you want the dog to respond with barking and bite if they don't leave.
I won't let mine attack other animals because one I don't like that and two I would actually be worried about my own dogs safety and getting hurt with rabies and stuff! My dog actually got hurt by a deer before
