The people that love it, use it as intended and know what they are buying. The people that hate it are the ones who compare it to more expensive handheld devices and don't know what exactly they are buying when getting a portal. For what it's meant to do, it's the best option and at a pretty decent price point
on point. It is particularly dedicated for some players who have no time to sit infront of the tv after a long days work. I love mine as I can finish more games while relaxing in the comfort of my bed. :)
Same here, since Feb, played ps5 games only in bed, I had to take a break because I started to have neck pain and got an ugly dermatitis on my left hand wrist because of the watch strap :))
Great review! Just picked one up this past weekend, loving it so far. People have to stop hating on this device. If you truly want to experience the PS5 in handheld this is the way to go.
Have it since launch, but for the first time i had to to another country. I get bored there and Ps5 is very big to carry with me but taking the portal was an experience that really made me happy for buying it
I’m getting one tomorrow. I work 2 jobs and when I do get time off I have my girl over. This will help me to finally find some time to play while the tv is in use.
Honestly, I have both Steam Deck and Portal. I have been gaming a lot on my portal these days. SD has not been on for days. I love both the device but Dual Sense haptics snd screen is just amazing. SD is now for emulation and steam games only but with limited time i have, i always reach for Portal
Ive been using my steam deck oled to stream from my ps5 for awhile and it works very well, however there are some games that wont work due to the lack of full track pad support, and some games I simply don't want to play without a dualsense because the haptics/adaptive triggers feel to important to the experience. The portal now fills that gap and does exactly what I wanted, I do wish it was oled for the price though.
I bought it and I love it but only drawback for me that I loved it too much that I wanted to take it with me everywhere but sadly public wifi issue was not resolved now considering the Steam Deck
If you are near your ps5, you can get the 3D audio if you connect the earbuds directly to your ps5. This would be the only way to get 3D audio thru them currently
Awww, not having a bluetooth connectivity is a deal breaker for me. I don't use headphone for my PS5. A pity. This would be perfect for me otherwise. I visit my parents almost every weekend, and it would be so nice to be able to game there. I have so many backlogs of games I want to finish. Thanks for the review anyway! I appreciate it.
If you get it you will find yourself playing PS5 games more. It has become one of my favorite devices ever and I will buy a Portal for all PS consoles from now on and hope they keep producing these
You mentioned the slight delay, I really mostly play sports games like 2k/madden/cfb do you think the delay would be really noticeable? I know you said you made it through multiple games but how noticeable is the delay?
Solid review. Regarding Bluetooth I've read a bit about it. Per Sony, Bluetooth doesn't offer enough low latency for the experience Sony is looking for.
Sony has published the update 4.0.0 two days ago. They fixed the micro stutter problem. And what's most important, the PS Portal can now play games over cloud streaming. You don't even have to OWN a PS5! All you need is a Playstation Plus Premium account to play hundreds of PlayStation games... This takes this console to a completely new level...
Wish the portal supported something like wifi direct that would cut out needing good wifi if you are just playing within your own home. It is possible as well the wii u used this as well as some nvidia products i believe
I’m really thinking of getting since my son has his ps5. I got a steam deck which I love & gaming hand held is better for me with my busy life…just wondering if I should get it. I just wanna play madden & cod on it so any suggestions or thoughts?
I bought it because i like portable gameplay..i get router to 5ghz wireless, getting connection about 400mbps download, 100mbps upload..this thing DOES NOT stream 60fps performance mode from ps5.. its good to kill some time with it but if you are used to 60fps silky smooth gameplay from ps5, you are gonna be disappointed.. tried every tip to make gameplay better but still..tried to love it but i guess im gonna sell it
I just got my hands on my portal yesterday, I have been enjoying playing some single player games on my down time at work. (my main use senario as ill just use the ps5 at home) i have not really tested it linking it to my phones hotspot yet, but i have also played it at home, using it in the living room with my tv and ps5 in the bedroom. It is a great accessory, thinking about also getting the earbuds from sony as well.
If the Playstation is made for travelling, but then again it doesn't connect to public wifi spots (Starbucks, hotels, and so on) then there isn't much use to it.... I looked into possibly buying it because I work in aviation, however, probably won't since most hotel wifi networks work similarly like many public wifi hotspots.
@@imaaronm Oh nice, thanks for the heads up! :) Where do you check these news regarding updates? I am only recently getting back to consoles so not really familiar yet with where to check for upcoming news.
Only thing i was kinda disappointed about was that it didnt seem to come with any protection. Id of been happy to pay an extra £20-40 for a case included. Ive played it at a distance of 280miles when visiting a friend and it was perfectly fine. Mostly depends on WIFI quality. Played at another friends 14 miles away and it was like 240p quality and i ended up putting it away till i went home. My other issue but i know its just me being greedy and it is designed purely for games was that i cant use any streaming apps like netflix, youtube, disney etc. I wouldve liked that but it wasnt a deal breaker. I bought it because i dont get time to sit at the TV often

Great review I’m currently on the fence about getting one. I have small children and TV time is limited with the kiddos, so this may be just the ticket. Hopefully they’ll release a firmware update for the streaming. That would be awesome.
It’s a perfect Accessory For The PS5 I love mine and use it whenever I get a chance but make sure you set the right settings on the PS5 that way you get the best experience I’m Amazed at what it can do with The PS5 on Wi-Fi but connected to the router is even better but I mostly play on Wi-Fi due to my router being in the living room
The main issue I have with the thing is like you said if I have to share my tv but the issue is that I can just go buy a tv for 300$ good review no hate from me just kinda pointless in that aspect
Just got mine, I used to do remote play on my Mac and Steam Deck, but wouldn't play a very long time, as it is a bit clunky with the Mac, and the Steam Deck can be heavy sometimes. But since I have the Portal, I keep playing every night, a must have for me
Haven’t tested it out overseas but I read on a Reddit post someone using it over 800 miles away. You just need a solid internet connection for both the PS5 and Portal 💯
Not asking about playing. asking about the initial setup if I'm in Europe and I buy a portal can I set it up to my Playstation in the USA or would I have to be next to my Playstation 5 for the setup / connection
