not only is it genuinely inspiring, its also a very deep look into the mind of a heroin addicted musician. low key kinda sad tbh
but its just so raw, which i love

Classic record, deserves more recognition. Has a unique wistful, despondent sound, prototypical of a lot of later 90s music. Much of it was written in 91 and 92 as well. A lot of darker, atmospheric albums of that era were down tempo or post rock, but Niandra was an experimental avant-garde fusion of classic rock, soul&funk, and punk. Hard to define what it is, but it’s a special masterpiece in its own right, the quintessential quarter life crisis album. I’ve listened to a few thousand records, and nothing comes close to capturing sadness and detachment quite like it. His guitar actually weeps, reminisces and evokes more emotion than even John who is practically wailing on the album. Amazing work of art, I always return to this album.

Niandra is my favorite album and I'm kind of sad that John sees it like "sad sounding". I've always listened to it and felt like I was being comforted by a friend. Those songs felt like the only ground I could step without being judged by other people when I felt really lonely on this world.
