An Garda Siochana is hugely understaffed, gards are not seen from day to day and thus it is a reactionary force of immature officers unaware of the fundamental laws that govern Ireland.
I know a lad that always wanted to join up,on the first day the sergeant said im only asking you one question, psyched he said fire away, are you honest,i am. Next.😂😂😂
If it’s so difficult to recruit Gardai that you have to go to asylum centres to recruit new Gardai then there must be a reason why people don’t want to join. Poor pay and lack of respect from many in the community and massive oversight by GSOC are putting people off. They are now so desperate that they have to advertise. Back in the 1970s & 1980s ten people applied for every vacancy.
After a set amount of years, like 3 years of working for the Garda, you can ask to move to a different unit, whether that be a detective, the emergency response unit or the armed forces.
I was attacked by two bottle wielding thugs in Swords years ago, for no reason. With help I fought them off, restrained one until the Guards came. One was arrested, the other wasn't. The arresting guard told me, as the law had been changed, it wasn't necessary for me to attend court as a witness. I had doubts ! Months passed. Eventually, the arresting Guard told me that there had been a court case, but the judge simply gave the accused " a slap on the wrist" ! I demanded the court details, the date, time, the name of the judge etc otherwise I'd sue the Guard in question. Much later, a senior Guard apologised to me saying that there hadn't been a court appearance. I had been told a pack of lies. Foolishly, I accecpted the apology. Later, I realised that the other assailant was a friend of the arresting Guard, and this thug is now a Guard in the West of Ireland. If he had been given a criminal conviction for assault with a glass bottle,as he had done, he wouldn't have been able to join the Gardai, and eventually draw his easy pension at 50. Having scumbags like him in the police force, giving evidence against others, makes a mockery of justice in Ireland .
I want to start training, i have invested 3 years trying to get in. My medical history is what is creating a delay. I am fit and ready....start, but things beyond my control are preventing me from just doing the physical test and waiting to start. Not fair sometimes.
Why does he have to declare that he is an openly gay Garda ? He shouldn't have to say that unless it's to show that there is no restrictions being gay and joining the Gardai.
I always Wanted to join Garda Siochana now would be a great time for me to join because in a years time I won't be able to as 35 I have Recently Missed My chance to apply as I Missed the deadline
