    This is so freaking cool, behavior we don’t normally get to see
    Those tortoises obviously don’t have much fear for her.

    Kenan just blew Nat Geo out of the water. This was Far and Away the best video I've ever seen on your channel and I've been a subscriber for years. What you showed today I should really change the way people think in the reptile World about monitors. Really really really amazing footage and interaction with your friend Lagertha

    As a Biologist that was amazing!! The lack of aggression was so revealing of their relationship. You have done well with your animal placement, as this video proves. I love turtles and tortoises but your channel has me rethinking the whole lizard and snake avoidance.They are both beautiful and fascinating. Thanks for your dedication and videos!!

    Ugh... as a mammal/rodent rehabber (I end up with lots of squirrels), it's so hard to watch them eat, but I'd say that girl missed you, Kenan. She was looking at you with a far softer look than we've ever seen in a video. I think you had a breakthrough! Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

    I inherited a Crocodile monitor, years ago at the time i new nothing about them,she was so good and calm, i used to walk her on a leash and random strangers would walk up to me and pet her, they are so very smart, i learned so much from her. i did some extensive research on them, and after two years I found a reptile expert like you with a good facility to take her from me.

    Awesome....being from Australia I love monitors, Lacey's were my favourite but I must say Lagertha has totally turned me to the dark side, lol the croc side of the force....wow what an amazing creature Laggy is & the croc monitor is now my favourite. Great Vid Kenan, ur amazing & a very lucky man indeed

      I thought in the same way.
      Most croc-monitors I've seen (inclusive Laga) always had something like mistrust or panic in their eyes, when humans were around.
      Today she had a total different look.

    Man, after watching so many of your videos, this one was by far the most interesting to me. She didn’t care that you were there, she was more worried about working her way through the prey animal. Even so much that she almost didn’t care that the tortoise wanted a bite!! Absolutely incredible man!! What an amazing experience!!

    very interesting to see. I believe you said this is a wild caught animal so she wouldn't be used to always having appropriate size rodents given to her, she would have scavenged and had to tare up prey items in the wild, so we are seeing a bit of that coming though here.

    Her behavior seems almost willing to share. She keeps being it closer to you, and shredding it in pieces. Then she looks at you and waits, shreds some more, brings it to you and waits. She just keeps looking at you.

    • @rosiehawtrey
      @rosiehawtrey 4 роки тому

      You know you might be closer to the truth than you think. Mammals such as wolves and even foxes will share food with humans. I wouldn't be at all surprised - my tegu sometimes does strange things (like laying eggs as a large male, and cuddling up when there are loud noises or people she doesn't like). Certainly nothing I've seen anywhere before that close to a human.

    • @lisafrank4860
      @lisafrank4860 4 роки тому

      @@rosiehawtrey I can't say I know enough about the subject, but is it possible your tegu was missexed or switched sex. Egg laying in males is just so highly unlikely, in my mind, it is just seems more probable for a female to just have more masculine features.
      However, certainly the current thoughts on what a 'lizard' brain is and their emotional connection and comforts seems to be incompatable with behaviors seen in captivity. This lizard is displaying so many behaviors of a stray cat trying to feed a human it is uncanny.

    This is great! I’m not as familiar with reptile behavior, but it seems she’s learning that you’re not going to steal her food and food is not going to be scarce. She’s learning that she doesn’t have to worry about running out of food. This leaves emotional room to play with her food, figure out what her favorite parts are, and test the waters to see how much she can trust you around her food. Very interesting

      @Courtz Courtz I was thinking that as well. As we know Lagetha,is wild caught and finally allowing Kenan to hand feed her. She's also taking in all the different smells from the rat that was harvested,cause it's not something that she just killed herself either(btws for those that know) she's blind in one eye,so she's alittle insecure in that inspect anyone walking alongside her *Blind side*
      I'm glad we get to see some feeding responses from her getting it from Kenan,no problem taking any bait from the tongs..

    • @iGoddess
      @iGoddess 4 роки тому

      Yeah or they like the taste of the inside meat, instead of of just swallowing one hairy rat?
      I think it tastes better with the meat exposed and if they're in the wild having to catch life prey, they'll have to wrestle and kill the rodents.
      So it's enrichment and she plays with it to get to the juicy parts.
      We all have our meals a different from time to time and so do animals.
      I truly think she was trying to imitate having to wrestle life prey and she likes the taste of the raw meat 🍖

    • @jebVlogs556
      @jebVlogs556 4 роки тому

      @@iGoddess that makes a lot of sense 😱cause if there's No blood or flesh kill smell to it she might be even more hesitant about what she's about to eat. @KampKenan if you don't mind one day.. Give Legatha something that was recently killed like you did Slinky a few months back.. You might get a whole different feed response to the potency of the smell.. Like when you have Slinky that huge rabbit.. as for those want know monitor lizards like their cousin the Komondos have powerful enzymes to break down bacteria in dead or even live prey..
