Tom is a true artist. I love how he describes what he imagines the song to be. He truly knows what story he wants to tell and what emotions he wants to evoke through his music. And he doesn't give up at "good enough." He keeps working and experimenting and trying things out until it's perfect for him and he's truly proud of his creation. I really admire and respect this man.
2:50 is my absolute favorite part. Say what you want. But AVA is absolutely underrated as hell. The music from blink, box car, and AVA literally saved my life countless times.
0:08 “Where does this need to go?” That’s a fucking master artist. He’s asking what is best for the SONG! Not what he wants. But what the music NEEDS! Damn. Classic Tom. My man. 🦁❤️🙏
@@Raydiaz92 i get u but without them they would stuck on making all the same repeatable generic pop punk stuff, they need someone who can direct them more into something like critter and Jerry Finn. Without both of them there wouldn't be AVA's WDNTW/I-Empire or even blink's EOTS to untitled albums.
@@spridle True, but luckily Tom already had a lot of knowledge passed onto him from Jerry Finn. So did Mark and Travis too, you can hear it on Mark's production of bands like Motion City Soundtrack. They just have that "Jerry" sound.
+PlasmaCutter117 The dude can come up with amazing catchy pop punk songs in his sleep. But now its admirable that he's challenging himself with newer styles instead of just cashing in on what comes easy to him. Too bad Mark and Travis are fuckin boneheads. I was actually looking forward to some of that catchy fast shit in what wouldve been a new Blink album. Oh well.
Fr him and jerry Finn were the masterminds I’d blink. Mark is horrible at writing with out him new blink is the cheesiest pop punk worse then Avril Lavigne
You ever just like… replay the intro of The Adventure over and over, so loud to the point you feel like the speakers are going to absolutely blow, or just me?
this footage is absolutely incredible.......this song has saved my life countless times over the years and will remain perhaps my all time favourite until the end.
We all wish we were time travelers in the room that moment telling Tom exactly the riff he needs to use. Luckily he eventually found it but, man, would that be cool to show him what we know about arguably his best song.
Man 2:59...that intro and those riffs seriously push outer world limits. So damn great. I remember listening to this the first time and going, how and the F did he get that sound?!
This album helped me get through some tough time in my life. I had just ended a 4 year relationship and woke up one day miserable and alone and joined the Army on a whim... This album helped me endure the misery that was 2007/2008 for me. Thanks Tom.
It's funny to see Tom actually trying in these behind-the-scenes vids...he clearly cares and tries really hard but just sells it like he can put no effort in and still kill it. Love Tom
This is one of my all time favorites. Had to buy the CD as soon as I heard this song the first time, and I actually went out and bought it right away. That's a rarity for me, there are some 20 year old CD'S that I still think "I gotta buy that one of these days."
It's great to experience how one of the songs that gave me so much strength back then was made and now I end up here again 15 years later and want to say: THANKS!
Just stumbled onto this...wow. It's like watching a murder mystery where you know who the killer is and watching the detectives figure it out from the start. It seems so obvious, but that's because we know the outcome -- what an amazing song the finished product becomes. Tom demonstrates such a gift to see and almost be able to touch the music that he is creating. But it's like it's already there, Tom just has to harness and assemble it for the fans. Amazing stuff, thanks for sharing this video -- even if I'm a decade late. heh
Exactly. As an ultrarunner, I can say that AVA is well-known in this community. It absolutely gives you the ability to tap into that extra hidden secret store of energy from your soul you need to get you to the finish line. It's like a PED.
I wish he kept that version of the lead guitar during verses. He kept it slightly in the final recording, but there were a few extra notes thrown in here which made it sound cooler
I've loved listening to Tom all my life, Blink182, Boxcar Racer, Angels & Airwaves, I know he's really fucking good. I never thought that he was this brilliant though when it comes to music. He's full of amazing ideas and he knows what fans want to hear, that's why he's so damn famous.
That riff is so nasty. The one thing weird about this video is that Tom seems stumped and then the next frame is him just playing it as it is on the record. Guess it came to him in his sleep or somethin? Amazing what you can come up with on an instrument if you just mess around with it all day.
muffinman182 Yeah I doubt he just thought of it. I think the camera missed days of innovation and thinking. I bet he freaked out when he finally landed on that riff. I know I did. Lol
UA-cam Algorithm got me too. I’m pretty sure there’s another video out there explaining that he came up with it one night when everyone else went to a Foo Fighters show. Everyone wanted him to go do as well, but he knew he had to figure it out. And figure it out he did.
The adventure is my favorite song ever! i see he work'd hard on it! i jus wanna say he nail'd it! it definitely takes me somewhere! :) kinda sad that his music style changed so much in his newer stuff (2014) doesn't quite have the same effect to me! still fantastic music overall!!
Not only can I hear Atoms drums, i feel them! Incredible band. Not to take anything away from Ilan Rubin (AMAZING drummer) but Atom was the guy for me.
Wow. UA-cam randomly suggested this video. I remember seeing this footage when it first came out. I was 17 I believe. I am now 32. I was crushed when blink first split but I have to say AVA is a masterpiece. I couldn't vibe with +44. They weren't bad but I just gravitated more towards AVA.
It's amazing how his brain works, because for those who don't know, the crescendo part of the riff is the same riff as the beginning of the song Carousel from the Blink 182 Cheshire Cat album, it's incredible how how reintroduces it in a whole new way
talk about fucking nailing it! that song takes you somewhere, not here, somewhere else, even as i listen to it now on 9-21-23 at 12:30 am. in a way it takes you on a spiritual journey in a matter of seconds. it reminds me of astral taveling just blasting out of your body into the stars. hes one of the most underrated artists since he came on scene. that album couldnt have been done by anyone any better than tom did it

I came to this video to see if anyone else noticed. I first heard guest list about a week ago and instantly recognised the intro from what I thought was a blink song. After racking my brain I realised it was the adventure
"If I was in the audience and I was hearing this.. It's so good. It better go somewhere fucking awesome."
It does Tom. Thank you for The Adventure.
And so it did, and the rest was history ❤❤

When Tom starts singing the melody on top of the guitars does any one else hear "I've been here before a few times" from Blink's "Always"?
