  • Took a walk through Östermalm down to Djurgården Island to see the famous Vasa Museum, where the 17th Century sailing vessel VASA is on display. We also went for a burger, just because. Anyway, come join me for a walk in Stockholm.

They call Sweden Lilac heaven ,they have more shads of colors in the trees than any other country, my first house had real tall white lilac trees planted close together that lined the the property on the road side .The trees keep the dust from flying on the yard

This is an instant favorite, the eye-popping details, the cave-like atmosphere, the craftsmanship of the shipbuilders and your camerawork, your calm and collected comments. I for one wouldn't trade the VASA for a hundred MARINE ONES. Thank you for everything you do for us!

I also think those flowers are lilac, since lilac can be found in many european countries, and this flower smells wonderful. Nice to see the old trams (trains) riding around the city, it is electric and does not polute. It is very conveniant for people to avoid taking cars and get stuck in the traffic, and going around the city. Tank you Andrew for this journey around Stockholm. I hope you can find some nice places for food including sweets.

The monument in the park (called Humlegården, btw) is of Carl Linnaeus / Carl von Linné. He was a Swedish botanist, zoologist, taxonomist, and physician who formalised binomial nomenclature, the modern system of naming organisms. Linné is world famous in the above sciences.

We went there. Stockholm Vasa. Quite a story on that ship laying down there in port for about 300 years. The ships engineers remind me of the Maxwell Smart quote: “Missed it by that much!” It literally blew over. Enjoy your vacation P6👍👍😎🇺🇸

Thanks for another outstanding video. I visited the VASA ship and museum a long time ago. If I remember correctly, a major part of the ship's restoration process was injecting a resin under pressure into the wood to drive out water from the waterlogged wood and when the resin dried it became sort of an internal skeleton supporting the weight of the vessel.
I have traveled to Europe many times over the past fifty years, sometimes as a tourist and sometimes for work. A rather universal truth is that anyone in western Europe educated since WWII speaks english as it is a part of the educational curriculum throughout Europe.

If so, if you take a photo of any plant, then look at it in your Photos, there is an i with a circle around it in the bottom of your screen. tap on that and you can see what the plant is. Works with a lot of things besides plants like many of the monuments in DC, etc.

Wow! The flowers are lilacs! They are my favorite fragrance. I went to a small Lilac Festival today. The tiny town has a woman who cultivates lilacs and she presses the small petals for the essence. When I met her a few years ago, she was the only person in the world making the essence the traditional way. I believe she still is the only one still to this day She was featured in a magazine this year. My husband was a diver and instructor. Boy would he have loved to have seen the Vasa. That's surely was an amazing, impressive and glorious sight. I am loving your trip. I wish I were there too. Guess I need to find the assorted Swedish fish........still looking! Hello Mr P. Loved the walk in the park, the shrub with the perfume looks like the Lilac family. The tree with the cone shaped flowers is a Horse Chestnut, much beloved in England the nut of which is called a conker, and is encased in a prickly green pouch. the conker is brown, spherical and very hard. Even harder if you boil them, then thread string through them. They then become a weapon and challenge to all oncoming conker owners. The object being to demolish the conker of your opponent Who must dangle his conker in a steady fashion to allow you to use yours in three attempts to smash his, with yours. This used to be a small boys pastime in autumn, and a respite from playing marbles. This is todays peice of useless information. Love the ship, we have similar with the 'Mary Rose', Henry V111 flagship, that also sank not long after launch. Not nearly as ornate as Swedens fantastic relic.

Yes it's a library opposite the hotel. It's the "Royal library" (Kungliga biblioteket) which is tasked with collecting a copy of everything that is published in Sweden (including web sites - although that presents a bit of a problem). They've been at it for centuries. The main building is in the park, although they have storage all over the county. I lived not for off there for years.

In short: the master shipwright (project leader/"designer") died, the people left carried on following the finished plans, the King made demands for changes (more guns/heavier guns/one more gun deck) which made the design unstable, no-one knew how (or even that they had to) compensate for the changes, a strong wind made the ship list so much that the gun ports on one side came down to the water level, water flooded in and she sank.
