- Its been 5 years in the making but I have finally released my original Ghostbusters (1984) VS the Ghostbusters Remake (2016).
And in this video, I am going to compare Paul Feig's atrocious female remake to the classic and inspired original Ghostbusters with Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson.

This is a VS video I have been waiting a LONG time to see, and my god did it not disappoint! The ending quote really hit me on a level which made me think of just how different the current climate of Hollywood is, great idea adding that in the end Eric! Besides that, I practically agree on EVERY SINGLE one of your points to the highest degree, and in such a well crafted video YET AGAIN, It really does make me wonder how talented you are as a content creator! I'm so excited to see more in the future! You did an, honest to God, ASTONISHING job on this video! Great work Eric! Ghostbusters 2 came out in 1989 and that film takes place 5 years after the first. You kinda forgot about that one.
So that means I should pretend like reboot never existed

Took you nearly two years, but hey you finally made it. Ghostbusters 2016 is everything that is bad about the state of Hollywood cinema nowadays. I don’t even love the original film as much as everyone else does. Yet this was a easy victory for it.

If Afterlife outdoes the 2016 "film" at the box office, I wanna see them handle an Extreme Ghostbusters movie or even take elements from the IDW comics.

I realize the obvious, but Bill Murray looked happier in Afterlife than he did in his one minute cameo in this film.

This is some constructive criticism for your future videos. As much as we all enjoy these videos of you tearing apart a bad movie and comparing how a better one did the same aspects better. I think that a lot of people will agree that we would like to see more battles that are between two films of equal quality. Either two really good movies or two really bad ones. In that sense it will be more like a battle and not so one sided like most of these videos tend to be.

@@EricCarter12 I actually like your current format of apples vs oranges. The juxtaposition of good films against bad films attempting the same story, genre, whathaveyou is far more entertaining and educational than comparing/contrasting 2 films of similar quality.
@@EricCarter12 You should also consider covering how the 90s Night Of The Living Dead stacks up against the original. I saw it for the first time recently and was surprised with how good it was.

I saw the 2016 movie in theaters and thought it was fine. Rewatching it for Halloween this year made me see how bad it really was

Well done, Eric, on this video! If you're interested, there's a movie called Annihilation which, to me, is what Ghostbuster 2016 could've been. Granted, it is horror based and their situation is far more frightening, but it made me think, from what I heard about Ghostbusters 2016, it being a better version to the 2016 movie.
I have already seen Annihilation. Lol I never thought to look at it as something that the Ghostbusters remake could have been.
Its been a long time since I've seen it but I think I thought the movie was ok.
@@EricCarter12 yeah, I love that movie, but it does take a while to get started. I brought it up because there is a legit reason why there are only women doing the job in Annihilation.
P.S. those men in Ghostbusters 1984 looked hilarious when they ran out of the library when they saw the ghost.

That movie was in no way like Ghostbusters. It is not comedic in any way, nor could it be. It was sci Fi horror and had nothing in common with the Ghostbusters universe.

his home alone will be remarked in history as one of the best christmas movies ever, while the remake will be marked as a product that was just made with no passion, for money.
ghostbusters afterlife is really enjoyable and nothing like the pile of trash we got in 2016.

I think a better comparison would have been Ghostbusters 2 because when it released it had some similar issues with its tone, execution of certain scenes, and sub-par jokes. Even some of the characterizations and the main antagonist of the movie were criticized. Mind you, I still think Ghostbusters 2 is a bit more enjoyable but I think it would have made for a better comparison and given a more interesting discussion with how both of them missed the mark, where their issues become prevalent, and even at times how both had their good qualities (yes, there are parts that I like about both movies) but failed to maintain. It could even have made for a more interesting dive into the similarities and how they diverged in their issues along with how they both could have improved.
For all you Ghostbusters 2016 mega-fans who will attack anyone who criticizes this movie, we don’t hate female Ghostbusters, we hate female Ghostbusters who are crap-ily written.
Even after five years I still can't believe Ghostbusters: Answer the Call was green lit for production. Probably the most ill conceived, poorly made remake ever made.
Nothing beats the classics.
Paul Feig is the real life version of Walter Peck (the guy from the original Ghostbusters that tried to get them shut down but instead got suffocated by falling melted marshmallow) he almost ruined something great and got suffocated under his failure. He almost dragged the franchise down with him until Ghostbusters afterlife was made. Now he's the one who can "suck it" because he already sucks.

Thanks so much for this VS video, Eric! Afterlife felt more like a Ghostbusters sequel than the 2016 reboot. While some of the references to the 1984 original were a bit much, and Paul Rudd and Finn Wolfhard were underused, I generally liked the new Ghostbusters, especially Phoebe and Podcast.
It very much did. I don’t know whether I prefer Afterlife over Ghostbusters 2
I saw afterlife yesterday and my thoughts were like everyone else it was the perfect passing of the torch and a great conclusion for the original Ghostbusters
Ghostbusters: Afterlife was great. People are giving it shit for the fan service but I will happily take fan service over the 2016 movie any day.
I thought it was a very nice movie. And it had a beautiful ending.
@@EricCarter12 I couldn’t agree more. Afterlife feels like a love letter to both the original movie and Harold Ramis. The 2016 movie felt like a half-hearted attempt to cash in on the popularity of Ghostbusters without having any idea on why people loved it in the first place.

Hey Eric (Is it alright if I call you that?), I have some suggestions for new Vs. videos you can do in the future: How To Train your Dragon 1 vs 2 vs 3. Suicide Squad (2016) vs The Suicide Squad (2021) with maybe if you want, Birds of Prey. Fellowship of the ring vs Two Towers vs Return of the King . Shrek 1 vs Shrek 2 vs Shrek 4. Also if you feel like it, you can do a Harry Potter vs video series. The first video could be between the Philosopher's Stone Vs Chamber of Secrets vs Prisoner of Azkaban. The Second video could be Goblet of Fire vs Order of the Phoenix vs Half-Blood Prince. The third video, The Deathly Hallows part 1 vs 2. And the final video will be the the winners of all 3 videos. These are just suggestions, but I would really like you to do at least the How to Train your Dragon and the Harry Potter videos. I also suggest that you can binge watch a show called the I.T. Crowd. It's really funny and It's not a very long show. That's it for now. I'll have more suggestions for your next video.
(Edit) Also, have you noticed that the villain is kind of a rip off of the villain from Megamind, Titan?
Both start out as weird and creepy losers with the same looking haircut, during the movie, they become powerful and get superpowers, during the climax, they look at the heroes with an angry look, both are stopped by getting hurt somewhere in the body, and both are funny, except Rowan is funny because of his pathetic "Motivation" whereas Titan's was a bit tragic.
No clue but you have this soothing and entertaining voice that makes it feel shorter than how the video actually is it felt like 5 minutes when in fact it was way longer

Obviously the original was going to win. It has an incredible script, comedy, special effects, story, and heart. I love everything Venkman says, and even the others are awesome. I’ve loved it ever since I first watched it. It is probably one my top 20 movies if all time. Also, congrats Eric for finally making this video. It was great, just like all of your videos.

GB 2: Not as good but a well done and interesting sequel
Afterlife: Fantastic return and homage to the legacy and beautiful passing of the torch
Afterlife was crap: nothing at all funny, and a rehash with boring teen stand-ins. Nostalgia grab at the end was the only memorable part: 5 minutes.

Agree, but giving the 2016.. (poor excuse for a film) a 1 out 10 is being generous.
What makes the comedy in the original so good is that they don’t dwell on it. A Joke happens, and they move on. Not staying on that joke for a solid minute. They’re smart quick gags that feel real to the universe of that movie and it’s characters. The Comedy in the Remake is like a bad SNL sketch. No thoughts, No compassion, No reason. 1984 does a great job at building atmosphere within its setting. New York is practically a character within itself. In 2016, New York is just a setting, just like how Ecto-1 is just a car and not a Character like the Original.
Also, The Effects in 1984 are fantastic and hold up phenomenally today. Yeah some shots look a little wonky but it beats 2016. 2016’s issue with the effects isn’t that it’s bad, it’s that it’s poorly designed.
Lately I've been Binging your VS I would really love to see the original TMNT movie(1990) and the new 2012 TMNT also great work in the video
Best part about this movie was the short 2D animated sequence with the Ghostbusters logo

Wow!! Amazing!! Can’t wait for your next video, The Dark Knight vs Batman and Robin.
The only thing I liked about the movie was that in 3D showings it had effects that go out of the frame, and I really like that. But I'm also one of the few people that still love stereoscopic 3D. Also Chris Hemsworth was the best actor IMHO, but his character implies things about Janine that are pure BS. So, yeah, very VERY little going for that film and soooooooooooooooooo much against it...
BTW, very well done review/comparison. I'm subscribed, but rarely took the time for your videos. That will change now!

Personally, all of your points have truth but i have different opinions 😂 As a strange 14 year old kevin is so relatable which makes him funny to me but as an adult maybe he SHOULD be a little more adult with his stupidity and when patty says "the power of patty compels you" was hilarious because its so childishly sassy of the character making it seem funny for a younger audience with an adult joke here and there hidden so that the children dont see it (even tho when i was in year 3 i pulled my middle finger on my own teacher because if this film) lmfao

This is exactly why I like movies like a 2017 or child’s play 2019 they are remake for sure but they’re also completely different movies in their own right
26:02 they should also take inspiration for Japan as well as they know how to portray Female characters really well as seen in their movies, anime’s and even their video games.
Japan is f**king full of original properties and well-written characters, whether it be old or new. Hell, they're the complete opposite of how things are done in the West.

Any thoughts in the latest Hawkeye series? It's actually Really Frigging Brilliant!!!!!!!!!! Really, Kate Bishop proved to be Really Great with some great depth and flaws to her, the trauma of Clint Barton comes back to him, the Tracksuit Mafia have proven to be Hilarious, Echo has shown to be a relatable and compelling foe, Swordsman has proven to be quite interesting, the mystery is interesting as well, and things are building up quite nicely. Really, if you think that the Hawkeye series would be took jokey, then, you possibly haven't even checked out the Highly Beloved Series by Fraction and Aja. Really, if you would say Anything about the Mafia, then you haven't known much about them.
