- trueblueridge.wordpress.com A history of the Blue Ridge Parkway and a tour of interesting sites along the North Carolina and Virginia border along America's favorite scenic road.
This video includes information on the history of the Blue Ridge Parkway, Cumberland Knob, Doughton Park Bluffs, Mabry Mill, Brinegar Cabin, Blue Ridge Music Center, and Doughton Park.
This wonderful video brought back lots of Fond Memories of my Bicycle Appalachian Ridge Roads Adventure of 1991. Thank You from Alan in England.
I live 10 minutes away from this road and I can't nor will ever get enough of the BRP
Same here! 55 years old and drive it in amazement at least one month somewhere
Unfortunately, the introduction does NOT include Floyd County as one of the counties in the "Cascade Highlands". Then, they go on to do part of the filming in front of Mabry Mill . . . WHICH IS IN FLOYD COUNTY, VIRGINIA.
Have been on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Love this, I have been there couple of times, but never finished it from A to Z. Maybe someday I will complete this dream.
I just drove this a week ago. If you're thinking of doing it watch this video, it's really good. I made some of the stops but if I would have watched this first I would have been a little better prepared. But if you get a chance do it. Get the book at the visitors center. Black Mountain was a nice town to pull of at and spend the night. Staunton is also another gem right at the beginning. We stayed a day there because it was too foggy to start. Awesome drive. Take your time. 3-5 days.
She reminds me of a ranger who use to visit our camp at Otter Creek when she was off duty. It was 18 years ago or so. We would feed her steaks and taters. She had a particular fondness for our sipping sauce and was a fair hand at poker. Beautiful country.
The thumbnail for this video gives the impression that we're about to be scolded by the ranger...
MY FAVORITE PART IS THE MOUNTAINS IN NORTH CAROLINA.
We've heard of this and are going there instead.
I love Va. since I live there. Mabry Mills is one of my favorite places but North Carolina has higher elevations which make for better viewing and I love Clingmans Dome and the whole Smoky Mountain area!
I'm surprised 😮 that they won't even Mention Stanley Abbott, who was the origin of the mapping the whole Blue Ridge Parkway in late 1930's

I think of the scots-irish a lot.
I would kill someone for a park ranger job.
Then you could be the ranger for the prison park.
Beautiful views but came with human cost many families where uprooted for that road just be watching The Waltons episode The Conflict very upsetting.Land disputes the only reference in this video deeply distorted history being presented here.
No one is a bigger defender of property rights than me but this is a clear example of where the rights of many to enjoy the parkway trump the wishes of a few landowners.
