3 things hurt that 454. Induction, low compression and the 400th. Well, maybe 4 things if you add in the exhaust. All relatively easy fixes. You've still got a 454.
I think they dynoed the stock 350 in second gear and then dynoed the 383 in third. If you look at the bottom of the dyno sheet you can see the difference in max speed. Dynoing in a higher gear can make it seem like theres more power when in reality it has something to due with the ratio of that gear and load on the engine/dyno. So it just makes the 383 swap look more amazing than it really is.
@@bobbybeyer2127 The best way is by simply measuring and finding a factory shock that fits your needs, without extensions. I put a set on my 99 Suburban and I'll never go back to OEM style brakes. I've also done an HT383E swap on my truck and I can't recommend it enough. Awesome swap. Note. I added a Hypertech high energy programmer, JB shorty headers, and Magnaflow header back exhaust system with new high flow cats and muffler. I love this combo!
I wouldn't think the spider injectors would supply enough fuel for a 383 with those mods. It would have been close in cost to do the 350 ramjet mpfi swap than to buy the new spider. 454SS looking good, even id not a fan of the wheels. Replacing a motor with 165k seems crazy, doesnt seem like that many miles for an old V8.
Great work and sweet ass good looking trucks!
boy they make these projects look easy, to refresh that chevy probably cost 10 to 15 grand in parts and labor. I wish they would disclose a parts list and prices.
The stick 454 truck wasn't any big deal when it came out. I was street racing at the time and my little 327 Chevy in myv73 nova used to kill them all the time. Chevy put a very restrictive 454 in this truck.
Wish they would have said something about the tire size
i think they said it was an 18 inch rim and tires were 10 inch wide for the back and 8 for the front
As a dodge guy i hope the lightning wins
You guys never listed the coating you sprayed on the frame.
Both trucks look very nice but I would have put wheels on the lighting too.
My prediction: the 454 will take it down the 1/4 mile, the Lightning will wax the Chev on a road course.
I wish that they would Dyno the old engine (the 350) and see how it compares to a built engine
I think we can all agree that the Chevy looks way better than the ford.
Pretty Amazing
When yall gonna line the ss and the lightning up?
That SS deserved an undercarrige restoration.
I got the cup holder in your color for your truck. it bolts to the dash
Yalll are the beast
Where can I take my truck to have the same work done ?
So no fuel system or computer "upgrades" needed with the 383 swap?
@5:59 “Well, the driver’s side leaf hanger is pretty much the same story as the passenger side, except the nuts are harder to get to with the fuel tank in the way, but the good news is that deez nutz are not at all hard to get to.”
I need more info on those Mickey Thompson wheels…
160,000 miles and tired?!?!?
I'm used to 220 to 290,000 miles on my GM's and they run great!!
