    Very valid points! One thing about this 2.7 L engine that many people aren't aware of is that this is an update of the L3B version that we saw when it was introduced in the Silverado back in 2019. GM managed to workout some issues the engine was having and over time also made hardware changes, so they came up with the current variant of this 2.7 being the LR2. You can still get the L3B in their work truck Colorado, but the LT, Z71 Trail Boss, and ZR2 come with the L3B which aside from the hardware changes, it also has the capability to be tuned to their "high output" setting. Another fun fact, this version of the engine is the very first engine that GM has tested and abused that did not fail on them once! I did a review on the new Trail Boss Colorado and the guy I was with in the video had a chance to meet with the GM engineers to drive these trucks before they became available.

      Yep I have not been a chevy fan since my 05 colorado. But the 23 redesign and the fact that I honestly believe the L3b has been proven, bugs worked out and will be the most reliable mid size truck turbo available for a while. And the capabilities vs price may the Colorado trailboss and the zr2 amazing. Love thos new 23 Colorado.

      @Jason-Samko  Рік тому +2

      resale is worthless if you dont get a good price to begin with. and there are many other factors to resale price than resale value such as purchase demand. my tacoma was the worst vehicle purchase I have made in 10 years and cost me more than my last 5 vehicles to own. that can not be debated either. where as ram, jeep, ford, have all been much better vehicles for me cost wise in all categories (buy, own, sell and cost to own).

    When I was in the market for a new truck almost 6 years ago, I did my research (like you) and ended up with a 2018 Colorado ZR2. It now has 100k and I couldn't be happier with my decision. It gets driven hard on and off road and is still going strong.
    I would love a new one, if this one ever gives up. I keep up with maintenance, so I don't see that happening any time soon! Good luck. Nice truck!

      Loved the Zr2 when it first came out and always wanted one. Cant wait to try this one out. glad you have been so happy with yours too. I have read so much, watched very video, read all the forums and fb groups as I do whenever I buy anything. and all the complaining on this new colorado are minor first year little hiccups or people doing stupid stuff. When I bought my tacoma the tacoma forums were filled with major issues like cv's, ball joints, main seals etc. going very early and that was on a 5th year of the generation!. those are trip stoppers. so far other than the battery update hiccup this colorado seem very reliable so far.

    I have a 21 Colorado Bison and I do all my maintenance. I can say without a doubt it has been amazing. v6 purrs. Bought it from the dealer with 6 miles, bout to hit 30k and not one single issue. Only check engine light I received is when my tire pressure is getting low and rids of it when I bring back 34psi. I don’t drive it hard and I am coming from a 02 Nissan Frontier that had 186k. No issues but I wanted something newer and I graduated grad school and I wanted to treat myself. Toyota fan boys will do anything to hate, but never owned a Chevy. Can’t knock it till you try it. Be about it. I recommend the truck. Since the first gen I’ve always been following the Colorado. I have no regrets. I hope you enjoy your truck assuming everything goes smoothly at the dealer.

      The Colorado zr2 is alot of truck for the money. Besides the gladiator the Colorado zr2 is the most capable off road truck out there and is still very affordable comparably. Raptor ranger will be a bit more capable when it comes but also cost 10k more and even then for the same price as the raptor the bison edition of the zr2 will keep that top place. I love that Ford and jeep and gm all offer amazing mid size trucks now!

Not only did he have issues with both the engine and transmission, GM/Chevy did not fully cover the problems under warranty. I looked at the Colorado but since they discontinued the 6-cylinder and diesel engines and only offer 4-cylinder engines I went another way. I want an engine that will run >250,000 miles and the 4-cylinder is less likely compared to the 6-cylinder or diesel.

    • @Jason-Samko

    Like the looks of the ZR2 but I just can’t trust a bow tie, every damn one I’ve ever owned left me stranded. I prefer a naturally aspirated engine which is getting hard to find nowadays, went with a Gladiator and lifted it with 35s. Good luck with the truck!

    • @Jason-Samko
      @Jason-Samko  Рік тому

      gladiator would be my only other choice id take if buying right now and the fact that I could get 10k off msrp on a gladiator makes it even more tempting. But I have drove 5 gladiators and owned 4 wranglers. I dont like them as a daily driver as much as a normal truck. but it was a tough choice as for me a vehicle is not an emotional buy but rather a need that I try to make the best financial decision on.

    and 100k drivetrain warranty is a plus!! Now I like the ZR2/Trailboss trucks. Great styling but not a mid-size guy. I like the full-size trucks and with my camper I’m on the bubble for 3/4t but like my f150.

    • @Jason-Samko
      @Jason-Samko  Рік тому +1

      The 100k warranty is only on the sliverado version I think. Not the Colorado. I think it's for some of the earlier Silverados that had some new model year issues with the motor. The 3/4 tons are still a pretty decent buy right now. Half tons are getting stupid expensive. The f250 and 350 are excellent trucks as is the cummins.

    I just received my zr2 today. One thing no one seems to talk about is height. I’m 5’11 and this truck is high to get into and jump to get out. I also think there should be a oh shit handle on drivers side to help get in and out. The lower side seat booster is never gonna hold up but we will see. I may take the rock bars off and install Auto step.

      I have a 2019 Tacoma, purchased new and it’s been in the shop numerous times for unscheduled maintenance requiring repair/ new parts. Two separate occurrences requiring a tow service, leaving me stranded. Host of issues in all three categories of QDR. It’s a hot mess with currently less than 39,000 miles. Never again will I own a 3G Tacoma. I can’t wait to dump it. If it got totaled today, I wouldn’t look back. New issue is a timing cover leak noted at its 35K mile service. It’s out of warranty and I don’t trust it. It’s not long term for my driveway.

      Replaced faulty A/C compressor.

      Yep saw that too. But I consider that a easy fix and minor issue. So far the Colorado has had zero big issues. That's awesome for a first year release. You should see the crap happening with the tundra even after being in its second year! Or what the bronco went thru with motors blowing all over the place with bad values and customers waiting 8 months for thier vehicle to be repaired. I'll take the mini issues the Colorado is having any day. Carry a jump starter until thry get this kink worked out. Problem solved and I'd still be driving.

      I pulled a 3000 pound enclosed trailer with ladder racks on it daily for my pressure washing with my 22 tacoma. It does good but the gas mileage towing is brutal. Like 7 to 8 mpgs. Before the tacoma my jeep cherokee trailhawk would tow the same trailer at 14 or 15 mpgs. The tacoma is not really a good tow vehicle for the wallet. But it's an amazing truck overall.

    I have had my Summit white Canyon AT4X now for about three weeks and I love that thing! Yes, it has a few things that I wish were different but all in all I couldn't be happier. That truck does not have a single rattle, squeak, or shimmy, it is solid and it is quick. Brakes are strong, pedal is solid, steering has the right heft and feedback. Another thing that doesn't compute in my brain is that it has less road noise with 33's then my other normal cars, no exaggeration. It is extremely quiet and well mannered on the road. Not only does it not tire you out on long drives, it is a great place to be. A couple other things I haven't heard others mention yet is the HVAC kicks ass. Fan setting #2 is all I have ever needed, any higher and my hair is blowing in the wind. The Bose system sounds incredible too. I should mention also that this is the first GM vehicle I have ever owned so this isn't being said out of any loyalty. Things I don't love... Menu's can get deep and confusing to find things sometimes, I am not a fan of the piano Black plastic (ever), this is a strange one but the way the hood is shaped- when it is raining water pools in two spots on the hood and then gets thrown up on the windshield when enough collects. Some of the plastic could be softer (above the door handles/ window sills mainly), the wireless phone charger is a little touchy. I don't care for capless gas fillers. Gas mileage is not great but also not lower then advertised. That's about it though. All in all super minor stuff. I am very happy with this truck so far.

      Love hearing this! I can not wait for mine to get here. Funny thing is all the people I expect to chime in telling me I'm making a mistake. Don't listen to them. They do t know thier head from thier ass. And when I bought ford's and did videos people said the same thing. When I bought my ram people said the same thing. When I bought my jeep people said the same thing, when I bought my tacoma people said the same thing. So if you see people dogging the gm stuff here don't listen to em. Most likely people driving a 1998 Ford that watch memes about Ford vs chevy. Congrats on an absolutely beautiful truck. When I bought my tacoma the tacoma forums were filled with major issues like cv's, ball joints, main seals etc. going very early and that was on a 5th year of the generation!. those are trip stoppers. so far other than the battery update hiccup this colorado seem very reliable so far. I agree with you on a lot of points but my issue is the 16mpg. With OPEC running the show oil is projected to go $150 per barrel. We could have an energy crisis on our hands next year or so. I know you're not thrilled with hybrid technology but it is the future whether we like it or not. Don't be surprised if Chevy dumps this engine in a few years and goes pure elec. All of the car brands are doing this. Even Ram is coming out with it's elec/hybrid tech next year on the 1500 REV. It's not going to be like ripping off a bandaid, super quick, but it's def going to happen very soon.

    I put a thousand $ deposit on a 2023 Colorado zr2 almost 7 months ago and it'll be here next week.
    I did all the same research and I agree on every single point made here, especially the new Tacoma engine options. To get 430 lb-ft of torque in the new Tacoma I'd have to get some ridiculous hybrid. No thanks. The new 4 cylinder turbo has proven itself for five years in hundreds of thousands of Silverado trucks and I watched a video where the GM mechanic was testifying that these engines never end up in the shop. The front/rear lockers and the DSSV shocks are the other definitive factors, and after many months of research it was an incredibly easy decision for the new Colorado ZR2👍🏻
