This was one of his last shows before Tom Petty passed away in 2017. It’s been six years, and he is sorely missed by his fans here on Earth. I saw him and the Heartbreakers live in concert back in 1982, when I was stationed in Germany and they were part of a multi-band show at an arena in Dortmund. The lineup had been Tom Petty (rhythm guitar/vocals), Mike Campbell (lead guitar), Benmont Tench (keyboards/back vocals), Ron Blair (bass/back vocals), and Stan Lynch (drums/percussion/back vocals). They put on a fantastic show, and one of their tunes was a cover of “Shout” from the Isley Brothers and it was over nine minutes long. They also sang an extended version of “Breakdown” that was over seven minutes long. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers knew how to jam.
