    I have the ADAM’s and love them, but in your example and in your room, I think I’d keep what you got. As they sounded better to me.

      Great point - some rooms just favour different speakers. Glad to hear they're working for you though!

    Definitely more mid range presence in the Yamaha and sub setup. The Adam speaker did sound good though 🤷🏻‍♂️Tough call
    I preferred the Yamaha setup because I could hear a better articulation of the mix.

      A lot of it is going to come down to preference ultimately, but those graphs don't lie!

    I have tried the HS7 against the focal alpha 65 evo. And i also prefer the HS7 cause the are sound more detailed an realistic. If any Instrument playing you think its directly in front of you in the room. The focal have alittle bit more low end but if it is not better to analyse the low end. Focal sound not so clear and detailed. They sound more like an Hifi speaker.

    In this example... The HS7+Sub sounds to me like the song. Thanks for the demo.

    Which song is playing on the speakers?

    Hey, great video!
    I decided for the HS7 lately. I recognized now that I can't hear the bass enough, so I would have to treat my room and/or get a sub to complete the setup.
    What bothers me is that I wanted a small setup which doesn't require too much volume, so I can longer produce and mix on the monitors. The HS7 are really great in the Highs and Midrange, I can hear the pinching sounds and can regulate them.
    now I have to decide for getting a subwoofer in addition to my HS7's, or I switch to another brand. I tested the KR G4 for some weeks, and I also really liked them.
    What would you suggest? Is it less fatiguing for the ears when adding a subwoofer to the Hs7s?

    All is good, but i really like the hs7 alone because im guitarist and the mids is crazy loud and good and good for chugga2. The adam to much howl and honky mids that i dont like for chugga2 thing. Thats from what i heard

  • @filipdinevmusic
    @filipdinevmusic Рік тому

    The Yamahas sounds so much more open and detailed. Well, yes, more high-mids. I don't know if this is a good or bad thing when mixing. It could be easier to spot nasty stuff. What do you think?

    Did you have the low cut still engaged on the hs7s when you checked without the sub? I don't believe that have that little bass

    I Got the New A7Vs DSP built in Sonarworks on Board Room Correction and voice setting. Great Job ADAM 1700$ for the Pair or 800$ Each monitor Im still Burning them in but ive ran and save a room Calibration from Sonarworks that can be Exported to the new A Series and Stored in the monitor so you can close Sonarworks all together 👌🏽 ive owned the HS8s and they are good for producung not PRO Mixing as im a Film and Television Producer .

    I've got the Adam A7X + Sub8 and I use it together with Sonarworks reference.
    But usually, whatever somebody is used to, is what works best.

    Have you checked Presonus speakers? I got 3.5 set with sub for some guitar and bass playing/recording but they have higher-end stuff too! At least the smaller sizes are very affordable.

    I have yet to hear any speaker with a ribbon tweeter that delivers good mid range. They always sound scooped to me

    If I had the bucks for it I wouldn't say no to keeping 2 sets of monitors and they sound very different without the sub. Maybe install a speaker switcher which u can turn each pair on or off or both at same time. I had KRK6s and still do, which I mix everything on and I tried to get used to the bigger 8s and couldn't but having a device to switch or combine was quite rad back in the day in an old studio.

      Those monitor controllers would be fun to experiment with, but it definitely racks up a lot of expenses. Wasn't the way to go for this build, gotta keep things stripped down where possible! Thanks for checking the video out Jared!

    Hey Mikko,Maybe you should check out Hedd type 7 mk2, Sound like Adam A7X but fast tight Low end more control Highend had Adam like signature stereo image amt tweeter and very innovation feature just everything improve and Better

    • @zazanroger
      @zazanroger 2 роки тому

      The front port will affect mid range, sound good for producing but not good for mixing, Hedd can chose closed or ported, you can close the port combined with your sub

    I personally couldn't make it without hearing those sub 40 hz frequencies, though the extra bass sounded a bit too much my liking. The Yamahas seem to have special kind of dry sounding grind, might be that frequency 2 khz shift. The Adams sounded too muffled for me, somehow all the airyness is gone and the 100-200 hz range sounds bloated as it can be seen on the curves.
    Tested on a few headphones (Sennheiser HD660s and Hifiman Sundara) and 2.1 studio monitor system (Genelec 8030 + Dali sub). I like to have the crossover frequency a bit higher than the speaker pair can offer. Trust your ears too and don't look too much on the curves, especially if they are not Harman target (etc) curve calibrated.
    I'd keep the Yamahas and perhaps find a tighter subwoofer. Or just have monitors with a larger (>6..7") bass element, like Genelec 8050's (8") but they're like 2,7k€ / pair.

    Keep the monitors you’re used to. No need to fix it if it’s not broken. I’ve got a pair of HS8 I like. I don’t even really need a sub, if I get super worried about bass I put on some headphones to reference.

    At 5'00" (yamaha) and 5'02" (Adam) it seems that the distorded guitar bumps on the Yamaha (boxy), not on the Adam that sounded flatter and you could still hear the snare properly. I would need more context to say anything that might be of interest, though. However, on this specific point, I believe it'll be easier to mix on the Adam as the guitar (mids) is not so prominent.

  • @gearforest9746
    @gearforest9746 2 роки тому

    I am used to adams, but I would use what sounds best to you. In that setup I think the Adams alone sound better in comparison to the hs, but the hs with the sub sound best overall. On the other hand the Adams with a fitting sub, I guess, will sound even better than the hs with the sub. Anyway, what gives you the best experience will be best! Right now I mix on Adams a5x and I find them really good. For the lows I use my headphones (simple dt7pros) and listen pretty silent to the mix to find out what is going on down there. I will get a sub one day, but I am used to that setup and it just works for me. And I Touch my speakers for the lowend to "feel the bass section". I am lucky to have a friend who is a mastering engineer and I can listen to final mixes in his Studio that has super clinical listening options, so I can get a feedback for that, too. And in my lifetime I will never get such a Studio and listening environment I guess, so... for mixing it is all fine. Mastering is another level... or ozone (lol)

    • @mlsoundlab
      @mlsoundlab  2 роки тому

      Sounds like you've got it all figured out there! Checking mixes on headphones is a great way to control the lows if you're not in a treated environment!

    I think I prefer the hs7's + sub, but I do feel like the Adams have something the hs7's lack. Maybe keep the sub and move up to hs8's. I have hs8's and I think they work well, but I've never tried them with a sub. I'd love to.

    Ive had those hs7's before and i hated them, hs5 & hs8 is much better across the frequency spectrum 😁 I now use focal alpha 65's and they are much better for me personally. Instead of the a7x maybe you could try the a7v as they will translate much better in my opinion. 👍🏿
