What beautiful fish! I have some platys of my own and they are wonderful, they don't cause any drama in the tank or get in fights with my zebras which are very aggressive, also your cats are really cute, are they siblings?

the video shows a Fluval FX4, but I have sinced switched to two sponge filters, so now it's a closed system. No ammonia, no nitrites, no nitrates, and decreasing phosphates due to all the plants. I am not a believer of "no water changes", but that is changing, I think.
Maralee Lachovsky I try to stick to Natural stuff like tea tree oil and sea salt. Parasites, I treat with levamisole to paralyze them, and aquaprazi to make sure they're all dead!
Darryl Wolfe as with all helpful answers, it varies. on average maybe twice a month. sometimes i go 2 months without changing.... somerimes, i cha ge weekly. i have learned to mimic nature.... sometimes it rains often, sometimes it doesnt. i do it as i become less busy all while keeping an eye on the fish and their behaviour.
Some look like they have fin rot. Platies are very weak fish and can't fight it off on their own. You're gonna want to treat them for it or else it will spread to the rest of your fish and ruin their tails. One of my first male guppies had fin rot and never recovered from it properly.
Fin rot was just due to the stress of traveling, and I don't treat for anything that is not a parasite. Good water quality and low stress will allow the fish to ameliorate their immunity against any pathogens, and also allow them to regrow "rotted" fins.
I just started to get into platys i have 6 along with 8 ember tetras and 1 molly i want 2/3 more platys but i'm not sure if i have room? My tank is only a 29 gallon. .
Kelly Anderson 29 gallons should be enough for a few more fish. You can still get a couple more platies (make sure you have a ratio of 3 females to 1 male). Also, you need to get a couple more mollies (just like many other community fish, mollies need to be in groups).
+Dikran Seferian My fish ended all died from gill flukes i treated my tank for for two months the first month i used Prazipo the secound general cure neither worked. My fish basically had the life sucked out of them after they died i did a 90% water change and let the tank run empty for ten days. I now have 8 zebra danios and 1 gold gourami i just hope the flukes all died off kind of wish i waited longer befote adding more fish cause it was a nightmare..
+Dikran Seferian Yes i first did a 90% water change than ten days later i did a 50% water change both times i cleaned uo the gravel. They are so hard to kill ich isn't a problem but i am new to gill flukes and never had this problem before. I just hope i never have that problem again.
Kelly Anderson I guess all you can do at this point is to monitor the fish closely for a couple of weeks. Should a problem arise, treat the aquarium with a tiny bit of aquarium salt (not marine salt, there's a difference) and slightly raise the temperature.
I contacted the seller, and he agreed, but I thought it was more of a problem than was worth. Besides, now the blue platys have a few babies of their own, so no need.

Kelly Anderson The flukes probably died off during those 10 days. Did you clean the bottom with a gravel vac before adding in new fish?
